Finland — Nokia Beats Quarterly Profit Forecasts as AI Demand Boosts Business

Finnish telecommunications equipment maker Nokia reported a stronger-than-expected increase in operating profit for the third quarter of 2026 on Thursday, as growing demand related to artificial intelligence supported its performance.

The company recorded comparable operating profit of 605 million euros ($680.20 million) for the quarter, compared with 448 million euros in the same period a year earlier.

The figure also exceeded the average analyst forecast of 453 million euros, according to a poll conducted by Nokia. The results highlight how demand linked to artificial intelligence is contributing to business opportunities as investment in technology infrastructure expands.

Nokia maintained its full-year financial outlook, indicating that it continues to stand by its existing expectations despite uncertainty in the global economic environment.

The latest earnings come as businesses increase spending on infrastructure to support more demanding digital services. Artificial intelligence applications require significant computing resources and dependable connectivity, placing telecommunications infrastructure among the key components of the wider technology ecosystem.

For equipment manufacturers, rising AI-related activity presents opportunities to supply customers upgrading networks and investing in systems capable of managing expanding digital workloads. However, the extent of the financial gains depends on customer spending, project schedules and suppliers’ ability to turn demand into profitable revenue.

Nokia’s latest figures demonstrate stronger financial performance during the quarter. Comparable operating profit increased by 157 million euros from the 448 million euros reported a year earlier.

The company also exceeded the analyst consensus forecast by 152 million euros, underscoring the gap between its actual results and market expectations.

By keeping its full-year outlook unchanged, Nokia indicated that the latest quarterly performance had not prompted a revision to its broader financial expectations. The company made no changes to that guidance in the announcement reported by Reuters.

The surge in investment related to artificial intelligence has drawn considerable investor attention, as technology companies seek to benefit from increased spending on digital infrastructure, computing systems and associated services. Nokia’s results add to evidence that businesses connected to this investment trend are seeing financial benefits.

However, a single quarter of stronger earnings does not establish whether the improvement can continue. Nokia’s future performance will depend on demand across its markets and its ability to sustain operating profit at levels that meet or exceed expectations.

For investors, the main takeaway is the combination of higher comparable operating profit and unchanged full-year guidance. Nokia outperformed analyst forecasts in the third quarter while maintaining its existing financial outlook.

As technology companies continue investing in artificial intelligence capabilities, Nokia’s upcoming results will offer further insight into whether the demand supporting its recent performance can be sustained.
