Los Angeles — Hudson Williams is developing a new film and says he is struggling with similarities between its story and “Heated Rivalry,” the Canadian queer hockey romance that propelled him to fame over the past year.
Before the show’s success, Williams wrote and directed several short films, including “Soakers,” “Buttons” and “Inside Augustine Mendoza’s Quotidian Apartment.” He is now working on another project featuring a character who previously played hockey.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about “Yaga,” the Canadian witchy detective-thriller in which he stars, Williams addressed a concern raised by his co-star Carrie-Anne Moss. She had expressed reservations about referencing the “John Wick” franchise in the show because of her real-life friendship with Keanu Reeves.
Williams explained that he has encountered a similar dilemma while developing his own film.
“I’m writing a movie right now, but one character is an ex-hockey player,” he said. “We were like, ‘But if we have this hockey player and then you’ve done a hockey show…’ We’re getting tripped up on it and we’re considering other sports, but for some reason this character just made way more sense being an ex-hockey player. It’s almost like you have to bust through the prison of your own mind or construct of your own mind.”
Williams did not provide further details about the film or explain what the story would involve.
The project is among several productions the actor is currently involved in or has worked on recently. “Yaga” premiered on Oct. 23, while production on the second season of “Heated Rivalry” began in August.
Williams is also set to appear opposite Dylan O’Brien in the dark comedic thriller “Apparatus.” Additionally, he will feature in the ensemble culinary thriller “Tyrant,” alongside Charlize Theron, Julia Garner, Demi Moore and Omar Apollo.
