Sydney — ABBA’s ‘Mamma Mia! The Party’ Set for Australian Premiere in March 2027
ABBA’s theatrical dining production “Mamma Mia! The Party” is coming to Australia, with the experience created by Björn Ulvaeus scheduled to open at Sydney Event Centre at The Star in March 2027. The Australian debut follows successful runs in Stockholm and London.
Designed around a recreated Greek taverna on the island of Skopelos, where much of the 2008 film “Mamma Mia!” was filmed, the production blends live theatre, music and dining. Guests become part of the experience as a romantic story develops around them throughout the evening.
Attendees will enjoy a four-course Greek meal while 20 musicians and performers present ABBA hits such as “Dancing Queen,” “Waterloo” and “Mamma Mia.” After the theatrical performance, the venue will turn into a 1970s-style disco, where a DJ will continue the festivities.
The experience first opened in Stockholm in January 2016 before expanding to London in August 2019. Across both locations, “Mamma Mia! The Party” has attracted almost 1.5 million guests. London’s production alone has welcomed more than 700,000 attendees over 1,500 performances.
Ulvaeus described the Sydney launch as an important milestone for the production, highlighting its focus on bringing people together through music, storytelling and shared enjoyment.
“Bringing ‘Mamma Mia! The Party’ to Sydney is a hugely exciting milestone for us,” Ulvaeus said. “From the very beginning, this experience was created to bring people together through music, storytelling and joy, and it has been wonderful to see audiences in Stockholm and London embrace it so wholeheartedly.
“Australia has always felt like a natural next step for us, and Sydney — with its energy, international appeal and love of live entertainment — is the perfect city for this next chapter.”
For Australian promoter Paul Dainty, President and CEO of TEG Dainty, the production’s arrival represents a meaningful return to his history with ABBA.
“I had the extraordinary privilege of promoting ABBA’s first and only Australian tour back in 1977, and I still remember the phenomenal excitement that followed them across the country,” Dainty said. “Australia’s love affair with ABBA has never really ended — their music has become part of our cultural fabric.”
Dainty said collaborating with Ulvaeus and Pophouse Entertainment to bring the experience to Australia also offered an opportunity to reconnect with the group’s enduring musical legacy.
“To be now working with Björn and Pophouse to bring this extraordinary celebration of ABBA’s music to Sydney feels like a wonderful full-circle moment.”
In addition to its entertainment offering, the Sydney production is expected to generate 151 year-round, on-site jobs and draw visitors from other Australian states and overseas.
Tickets for “Mamma Mia! The Party” will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, November 12th. Fans can also join a waitlist to receive priority access before tickets become generally available.
The production will make its Australian premiere at Sydney Event Centre, The Star, in March 2027.
