UNITED STATES — Eli Lilly Shares Reach Record High as Weight-Loss Drug Demand Boosts Earnings

Eli Lilly achieved another significant stock market milestone on Thursday, with growing demand for its obesity treatments helping the pharmaceutical company report stronger-than-expected financial results.

The company’s shares climbed to $1,408.34 during early trading before closing at $1,389, marking a 7.5% gain.

The rally could increase Eli Lilly’s market capitalization by approximately $80 billion, adding to its valuation of around $1.2 trillion.

The latest share price increase came after the company reported quarterly earnings that surpassed analyst expectations and upgraded its full-year revenue forecast once again.

This marked the third time this year that Eli Lilly had increased its annual revenue outlook, strengthening investor confidence in its diabetes and obesity treatment operations.

The results come as competition continues to intensify in the global weight-loss drug industry, a market analysts believe could eventually grow beyond $200 billion.

Much of the attention is now focused on Foundayo, Eli Lilly’s upcoming oral obesity treatment. Its anticipated commercial launch could play a significant role in determining whether the pharmaceutical company can maintain its leading position in the expanding market.

Analysts have also pointed to drug pricing and wider patient access as increasingly important factors as competition develops across the GLP-1 treatment sector.

Despite pricing pressures affecting the broader drug category, higher prescription volumes have helped compensate for some of the financial impact.

Eli Lilly’s established treatments remain major contributors to its financial performance. Its cardiometabolic portfolio, particularly Mounjaro and Jardiance, recorded strong results during the quarter.

The company’s Alzheimer’s treatment, Kisunla, also delivered positive sales growth. Revenue from the drug reached $193 million in the third quarter, surpassing analysts’ expectations of $175.2 million.

Its strong financial position has additionally provided room for Eli Lilly to pursue further business agreements and broaden its operations.

Market analysts have largely maintained a positive outlook on the company’s performance, while emphasizing that the upcoming Foundayo launch will be an important measure of its commercial strategy.

The wider obesity treatment industry continues to draw substantial investor interest as pharmaceutical manufacturers compete to introduce medications offering greater convenience, improved accessibility and better clinical results.

For Eli Lilly, sustaining sales growth while navigating pricing challenges and expanding its treatment portfolio will be essential to preserving its position in one of the pharmaceutical industry’s fastest-growing markets.
