The Despicable Me franchise has established itself as one of the most popular animated movie series among audiences.
Launched in 2010, the franchise brought viewers into the world of Gru and his Minions, eventually growing into a major entertainment brand that spawned several films centered on the little yellow characters.
To date, the series has produced seven theatrical movies, alongside spinoff television shows, digital shorts and other projects. Collectively, the franchise has generated more than $5 billion in worldwide box office revenue.
The original Despicable Me introduced Gru, a supervillain with an ambitious plan to pull off the greatest heist in history: stealing the moon. Helping him carry out his schemes is an army of energetic, small yellow Minions.
Over the course of the films, audiences have followed Gru through major life changes, including finding love, getting married and becoming a father. Meanwhile, the Minions sequel, The Rise of Gru, shifted the timeline backwards to explore Gru’s younger years and the events that shaped his future.
The franchise’s popularity has extended well beyond movie theaters. It has inspired parade balloons, video games, numerous short films and other entertainment offerings. Fans can also visit Minion Land at Universal Studios Orlando, which features its own Minion-themed ride.
The newest entry, Minions & Monsters, currently holds the No. 1 position on Peacock’s movie chart.
With continued interest in the latest release and the wider franchise, we’re looking at all seven theatrical movies and ranking them from lowest to highest according to audience reception to discover which installment fans enjoy the most!
