This is the Andres Segovia show.
Everyone it's Andres and I'm coming at you with another tech video.
And this is a video I was planning on doing in 2026.
I just did not anticipate having to do this this early in the year.
What you're looking at is the clicks communicator.
What is clicks though, for those of you that haven't seen it yet, I've
actually reviewed these keyboard cases that were made for iPhone.
And I eventually Android devices that I will be leaving links to a
description down below.
So you can see my reviews there.
I helped fund the project.
This company was co-founded by Kevin Mikola, better known as Crackberry
Kevin and Michael Fisher, also better known as Mr.
Mobile himself.
So we are looking at here is not a keyboard case, rather an actual phone.
Let's dive into this, shall we?
This is from crackberry.com.
Clicks partnered with Joseph Hoffer, who designed the iconic BlackBerry
Bold 9000, the Bold 9900, the Q10 and Passport to design a purpose built
communicator for the modern world.
And I love the fact of calling it a communicator.
That's pretty awesome.
So we're seeing here, this device apparently is going to be available
in three different colors.
There's green, what looks to be white, maybe silver and maybe black.
So let me skip below.
There's a lot of information about where this project was birthed from.
So I'll be leaving a link to this article for you to check out as well.
So it was called Project Clover to kick off.
And this is an article by Kevin Mikola, uh, is that why Clover?
Because on March 17th, 2023, I actually registered the domain
name clicksphone.com and was on March 17th, St.
Patrick's day, hence Project Clover was born.
And to compliment the Smoke, White and Onyx Black versions, we're offering
a Clover Green version of the communicator too.
Okay.
So there it is.
So Smoke is the white one.
Onyx is the black one.
And Clover, this green one right here.
And I must say that looks really, really cool and unique.
Um, and we're going to learn more about this device here.
So let me share this right here, which is the launch video.
Communication companion.
Okay.
I, I am in love with this thing as soon as I saw it because it screams
BlackBerry, uh, it screams the BlackBerry classic just doesn't have, you know,
the buttons right below the screen that would have like the answer or end the
call or acting as a power button too, or the track password doesn't have any of that.
So this is more along the lines of the first generation Q10 device, but everything
else just screams BlackBerry bold, um, iconography, which is what I love.
Hence why Joseph Hoffer was involved with this.
So there's a little more here.
Yeah.
Building beyond BlackBerry Clover green, something that just meant to be.
So communicator is a Goldilocks form factor.
Not too small, not too big.
It's just right.
I don't think I felt the phone that feels as good in my hands
for nearly 15 years or maybe ever.
I mean, it has to be right.
Kevin, I mean, you guys were the ones behind it.
So, and as admirable as other quality efforts have been since the last new
BlackBerry ship, and that was the key to Ellie in 2018.
Wow.
That long ago, I did review that.
I did review the key to, I did review the red special edition.
I did review the key one, all that's available.
And I still have my key one, by the way, that was the only one that actually
worked on Verizon at the time.
So communicator is not an attempt to make a knockoff BlackBerry or
resurrect handsets from the past.
Our vision is grander and we're doing this the right way.
Communicator represents something that I feel is far more exciting and important.
Instead of just trying to bring back BlackBerry, we've been steadily building
the company team and vision to push forward and build a product that goes
beyond BlackBerry with a purpose-built communicator tool that complements how
we use our phone today with some really clever innovations that set the
stage for the future as well.
So let me go to this part.
Uh, Joseph was the industrial designer at BlackBerry who crafted the best and
all of my favorite BlackBerry smartphones of the day from the original
bold 9,000 to the iconic bold 9900 and BlackBerry Q10, and even led concept
refinement and integration with manufacturing for the BlackBerry
passport, helping turning it into a cult classic as it has become.
Uh, I do have the bold, uh, no, I don't have the full 900 anymore.
Um, but I do have the classic.
I have the passport silver edition, of course, which I've also reviewed that.
That's how my YouTube channel got started.
I honestly, uh, and so they partner with Hoffer studio on the
design of the communicator.
So we can both pay respect to the past, but also move beyond it and design
something truly new and unique.
That's it's the clickstone for the future here in this picture, you see
the passport and what appears to be the classic right here, it could be the
bold I'm thinking is the classic and the clicks, uh, device right there.
And what appeared to be swappable backs back here.
I hope so.
Cause I see all these other colors here, along with the smoke
edition of the clicks device.
So that looks really interesting.
Cause I am curious about, um, what they're planning on doing when we get to this.
And then I'll go over to the clicks website so you can take a look at that.
So Joseph led an absolutely brilliant process between working with the clicks
project team and stakeholders like me and Mr.
Mobile with our long wishlist of features and strong opinions to land on the
design that checks all of the boxes.
All right, let's go to the hardware tour.
So this is what it looks like.
This is what they showed in the video.
So at the front, obviously we have the display, the, uh, the camera, it's the
cutouts looks to be to the left of the screen at the corner, and we have, of
course the clicks of iconic key.
Now, yes, I do call it iconic at the bottom of the device with the USB type
C, um, port at the top, we have what appears to be the power button.
I'm assuming along with a headphone jack to the left, we have the
volume up and down rocker.
And this, um, if it's going to be like a silencer type thing, kind of like what,
uh, one plus did or, uh, what iPhone used to have just to silence the ringer.
That's what I'm assuming it might be.
And to the right, uh, it looks like, um, I'm going to assume it's a customizable
key because it looks like a walkie talkie button, but if blackberries used
to have a customizable psyche, so I'm going to assume that's what that is
because the power button on these devices usually were at the top.
So that'd be interesting.
So the back I look, I love the back.
That looks so nice.
And I could see where it might be swappable because it's just a
solid back cover for the thing.
And the camera, it looks like one camera lens and, uh, and then a flash there.
So let's, uh, you know what, let's go over to the clicks communicator website
so we can actually take a look at the specs and all that.
So if you go to clicks, phone.com forward slash communicator, that's what you'll
be able to see what I'm looking at here.
And also you'll be able to pre-order yours because it's a reservation at the time.
So it's designed for doing not doom scrolling.
I sure hope so.
All right, so let's see.
That's going to be released in these many days.
You can save up to $200 and unlock special bonuses reserved before
February 27th to lock in early bird pricing.
So we're going to find out what that pricing is.
So meet the ultimate communicator companion of purpose built, uh, of purpose
built for communicating in a noisy world.
Yet.
I, I want to say it might be a little bigger than the Q10 if they have the
specifications and I'll try to compare to what that might look like.
So our premium typing experience, anybody that's used the clicks keyboard
would know that the typing experience feels very, very good.
Now I was, I did fund the project at the very beginning.
So I had the founder's edition and the buttons, they, they felt good.
It did.
It didn't feel like a premium device at the time, like at least the case, but
with the new ones that came out last year, and I got one for the pixel nine pro.
Um, it was a massive improvement in quality for the keyboard.
So if it's along those lines that they put here, it's going to
be a fabulous typing experience.
And the way it's lined up, I must say, this thing reminds
me of the BlackBerry, um, curve.
So that's what this screen is at.
Just that it's not curved capture ideas at the push of a button.
So here, the side key, you can use it to turn voice into text, start a voice
recording or transcribe a meeting.
So I was right.
Um, it looks like the button maybe might be customizable.
Um, we'll see, let's find out.
Uh, it's, uh, Oh man, that'd be going really quick.
Is there a way to pause that?
Okay.
The fingerprint sensor is on the space bar and jump right into the message hub.
And it's a 4.03 inch touch display.
Oh, this site thing is moving really quick design for doing not doom scrolling.
So it is a four inch display.
I'm going to have to compare to what the classic was like.
So I'm going to pull that up.
Uh, what's this?
Oh, it's their launch video.
So, okay.
Uh, signal led.
Oh, no way.
Customize the notification signal to alert you when specific people or
apps are trying to get your attention.
Dude, that's awesome.
So the led crack light is back, but it's back on the side button.
Dude, that is so cool.
Message hub.
Um, what's the name of that launcher?
This reminds me of a launcher, a simplistic launcher.
I know I've installed it before.
I just remember the name.
Cause it reminds me of that look and feel.
Bring messages from your favorite apps together on the home screen.
Use keyboard shortcuts to quickly triage and take action.
Absolutely.
I like that quickly and efficiently.
That's what, that's the point of a communicator.
So closer look, move seamlessly between touch sensitive
keyboard and touchscreen.
Uh, touch sensitive keyboard.
So it's going to be like the passport then.
That'd be pretty cool.
Um, cause cause typing on a foreign screen with a keyboard is going to be
really inconvenient because there's, that's not that much real estate to work
with all in one camera and flash.
I want to see the specs on that.
Uh, work wired with the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.
I can't believe we're celebrating that in 2026, but that's what we come to.
Like, why'd you get rid of that?
Apple was so brave.
Okay.
Fastback design strikes the perfect balance.
Yes, it does.
I love that.
Uh, launch custom shortcuts with the clicks key.
Yes, you can do that with the keyboard case as well.
So the brushed aluminum side keys and physical kill switch.
Oh, whoa.
What physical kill switch are we talking about here?
Can we customize it?
Cause uh, some of you know, I've been covering it.
The unplugged phone is the only one that actually has a
physical battery kill switch.
So I'm interested.
What, what physical kills are we talking about here?
Oh, here we go.
Hello.
So hello.
Choice swap out back covers to match your mood or suit your style, dude.
I, I want all of those covers.
So now I'm like, it'll, it looks best with the smoke, um, addition of the phone.
Uh, but that green, that green looks really nice too.
Cause it's like the hero color, if you will.
So keep exploring clicks.
Communicate.
Here we go.
Here's the specs they wanted to see.
All right.
So the battery is a 4,000 milliamp hour silicon carbon battery.
If I'm not mistaken, that's the new technology where you can make a bigger
battery with a smaller footprint fit into these devices.
Uh, I know that not many American, I don't think any of the major players in
like Apple or Samsung have been trying to use that, but international brands have.
So that'd be interesting.
I think they will be the first one in the States to do so.
That's cool.
Charging is a Q a QI to wireless charging plus USB type C.
No word.
If USB type C charging will be fast wire charging on how many watts a band
supported a 5g 4g LTE 3g 2g unlocked.
I'm going to assume Verizon is not on that list.
So the display is a 4.03 inch ammo led display folks.
So it's ammo and nice nano SIM and East SIM, uh, operating system.
It has Android 16 right out of the box.
Awesome.
So connectivity, Bluetooth, NFC, wifi, um, wired audio, 3.5
millimeter headphone jack, secure storage, Android strong box ready.
I need to learn more of what that means.
Cameras.
The rare camera is a 50 megapixel optical image stabilized camera.
That's cool.
Of course, what kind of quality pictures that is yet to be seen.
The front is a 24 megapixel camera, not the five megapixel fixed focus camera that
we had on the black phrase back in the day.
So, um, was it five megapixels?
Was that the back?
You know, I gotta, I gotta look that up.
Maybe it was the rare camera.
That was a five megapixel.
And the front was like, I don't know, maybe one or two.
I'll have to check storage, 256 gigabytes on board, expandable
micro SD card storage up to two terabytes.
And here we go.
All right.
Size and weight 130.5 millimeters.
Um, tall, I'm assuming 78.6, three millimeters wide and 12 millimeters thick.
It's 170 grams.
Okay.
Very quickly.
These are the specifications from GSM arena of the BlackBerry classic.
The screen was a 3.5 inch 70 by seven, 720 by 720 pixels screen.
So the display on the clicks keyboard is already bigger than that one, which is
good because four inches, not three and a half, um, in terms of the size, the
dimensions are 131, um, millimeters tall and the clicks communicator is 130.5.
So it's about the same footprint as the classic.
That's what I assumed it is 72.4.
Um, millimeters, um, wide and the clicks keyboard, I mean,
the clicks communicator is 78.63.
So the clicks keyboard is just about as tall, slightly wider.
And in terms of thickness, the classic was 10.2 millimeters thick.
And this communicator is supposed to be a hundred, uh, it's 12 millimeters.
So it's two millimeters thicker, just about two millimeters thicker.
And in terms of weight, the classic was 177 grams or 6.24 ounces.
And the clicks communicator is 170 grams.
So the clicks communicator, as it looks based on the specifications that GSM
arena has for the BlackBerry classic, um, it looks like to be this about the
same size, uh, in height, slightly wider, but maybe about four or five millimeters.
And it's two millimeters thicker, but at least seven grams lighter on
or about seven grams lighter overall.
And in terms of battery capacity, cause I know the classic had a pretty sizable
battery compared to its, uh, counterparts.
Let me just take a quick gander at the battery.
If I can find it, it was a lithium ion, 2,515 milliamp hour battery, non-removable.
Meanwhile, the clicks communicator is a 4,000 milliamp hour silicone carbon
battery, so you get almost twice the battery capacity, almost the same
footprint, bigger screen, uh, I'm assuming much better processor because
I have about like at least 12 years since the other one.
Um, 5g and so much more better cameras and all that.
What's not to like, you know, that's all I'm saying.
What is not to like, what are the specifications of the, uh, the processor?
It uses a modern, a modern four nanometer 5g internet of things.
Um, um, SoC platform from media tech.
Okay.
They're not giving a number of the model or whatever, but we
are getting a media tech chip here.
Uh, I know how some of you feel about media tech.
I don't exactly have the same concerns about media tech as others have expressed.
And so long as the manufacturer supports the processor, we can expect the updates
to, to work, um, you know, at least to be getting, uh, the updates.
So right here, what version of Android?
Oh, look, they're confirming, uh, they're, they're comfortable coming
to two years of Android updates in five years of security updates.
And I know that a lot of that is dependent on media tech as well.
So, uh, I hope they struck a relationship here because that's where media tech doesn't
have the greatest reputations.
So the camera, let's see what they say more about the camera.
Oh, okay.
So the, uh, the rear facing cameras and auto-focus with optical image, image
stabilization, the front facing cameras are 24 megapixel fixed focus.
So we'll be curious to see what those selfies might look like.
And reservations.
Can I cancel?
How will, when will I be able to configure my, my communicator order?
Our reservation holders will be invited to configure the communicator
closer to the first production run.
Stay tuned for updates.
If you reserve the full device, it's $399.
It looks like the, uh, the launch price is going to be $499, but you reserve today
and you pay in full, or in this case to give you a discount, you're paying
399 for priority access and you get a bonus of two free back covers
that are valued at a hundred dollars.
These things might cost like $50 each, the back plates.
So 399 reservation plus $30 shipping and duties paid in full today.
So duties, that means, um, I guess it depends on where it's long, uh,
shipping, um, cause I heard that it might be global shipping.
Now, if you do a reservation deposit, which is $199, you get to lock
in the early bird price, but you don't get the bonus, uh, back covers.
Okay.
And since the remaining balance and shipping duties will be due when your
reservation is converted to an order.
So we've got a fingerprint scanner.
We get an led light on the, on the right side button.
We got touch sensitive keyboard.
We got, my goodness, AMOLED display dude.
Seriously.
What's not to like everything here.
This is not a, um, like, uh, a Kickstarter thing.
This is not an Indiegogo thing.
Uh, this is a real device that they've been working on for some time.
I've been well aware of it.
And I know that's primarily one of the reasons why there's been a
campaign to bring back BlackBerry mostly.
So they can use the BlackBerry trademark low, like at least a brand on this,
especially since BlackBerry as a company has kind of moved away from what
BlackBerry even meant, and it just makes sense to, Hey, if you can, why not
sell the rights to, or at least license it to clicks so that they'll able to
use BlackBerry properly and not to worry about that, so we'll see, I reserved
this thing as soon as I saw it, I saw it on threads first, and then I jumped
over to X and then I helped announce it.
And, and Michael Fisher and CrackBerry, Kevin, um, reposted me.
So I just had to, and shout out kudos to you guys, man.
This is great.
It's awesome to see.
Um, in the case of, of, of Kevin with crackberry.com, one of the very early
tech websites that I ever followed before became mobile nations and other things.
And Michael Fisher backed them from pocket now, and then eventually
graduates, both of them joining forces to do this.
It's just really awesome to see the fruition of not just so much stuff that
they were fans of, but bringing something to the masses that the market is starving
for, they want options, and I always felt that clicks would be positioned to be
that, and it looks like the groundwork was laid there, uh, nearly three years
ago when Kevin, uh, registered the domain.
So awesome.
That's forward thinking.
Wanted to see it.
So I wonder how much of this has to do with the software.
I'll have these questions and I'll be throwing that out there to, to Kevin.
Um, because I know he's investing in, I think it's apostrophe is, I think
that's the name of the OS, uh, apostrophe OS.
So there are privacy focused OS.
I know that they are, um, they launched on some punked, uh, devices.
And, um, it's, it's, I don't know if that's something that might be coming
here because, uh, Kevin himself was an investor in that one.
Um, so we'll see, we'll see.
But, uh, anyway, that's it.
Thank you very much for watching this episode of the program.
Remember to like share, subscribe, stay in the know, follow me across
the socials at the Andresa Govia.
I'll be leaving a link to this, uh, reservation in the video description
down below, or in the first comment, depending on what video platform you
are watching, let me know what you think of this thing as for myself.
I reserved it and now I'm going to be tossing and turning and
wondering what color am I going to get?
So I'm very much looking forward to getting this thing.
And as a communicator, yes, you can use as your main phone.
Um, but they, I've seen an interview or two where it was mentioned that
they know that you're not going to be using this as your only phone.
Some of you might be carrying two phones for the professional.
I carry two phones all the time, and I look forward to be carrying
this one with me everywhere I go.
That's where I'll leave it.
Thank you very much.
I'll see you in the next one.
