Macron: “We Are Not Mediators” as EU Pushes for Ukraine Talks Seat

French President Emmanuel Macron has said European nations must be included in any future Ukraine peace negotiations, warning that the European Union cannot act as a substitute for member states when it comes to security guarantees.

Speaking after an EU summit in Brussels, Macron stressed that Europe has a direct stake in talks due to its military, financial and political support for Ukraine, adding that “Europe must be at the table” in any discussions with Russia.
The comments come amid growing divisions within the EU over backchannel contacts with Moscow and the broader approach to Ukraine diplomacy.
