President Donald ‌Trump says he will issue a $5,000 ⁠payment to every adult citizen in the United States if Republicans secure a majority in Congress.

“Here is my promise,” Trump said on Wednesday at the first of its kind Republican Midterm Convention. “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of ‌them ... ⁠because of our tremendous strength and ‌success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”

It’s been one year since a gun shot killed Turning Point USA founder and conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. His death marking the first assassination of a major American political figure since the advent of social media. Prosecutors allege that Tyler Robinson, 23, assassinated Kirk over political differences. Republicans at the midterm convention on Wednesday broke out in chants of “Charlie, Charlie,” in recognition of Kirk after President Trump acknowledged that Thursday is the year anniversary of his fatal shooting.
