The House Judiciary Committee holds a hearing titled “The Continuing Tragedy of Sanctuary Laws” at 10 a.m. ET on Sept. 15.

Witnesses:

Elizabeth Carter, mother of William Micah Carter, who was killed in November 2025 by an illegal immigrant truck driver who had been issued a commercial driver’s license in California.

Anatoly Varfolomeev, father of Anya Varfolomeev, who was killed by an illegal immigrant drunk driver in California in November 2021.

Frederick Akshar II, sheriff of Broome County, New York, and plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging one of New York’s sanctuary laws.
