We have already arrived at the ice hotel which doesn't look much yet We are here in a small wooden cabin which seems to be some kind of dining area
This is where we will be attended to first so nothing else I imagine they will give us the explanations
And here I start to see it as bedding towels and such
And now they will give us a tour or a visit to what the ice hotel is
And we will see our rooms and then take a tour around here
We are already at the ice hotel
The first part you saw is as I told you the main part where we are actually going to have dinner
And now they have already shown us the hotel which is spectacular
Inside it looks like a giant igloo
In fact were shown a video that explains how this hotel was built and it's very interesting
So they use a large balloon and once it's inflated they start putting all the ice around it
And then they can take it off and everything is like the ice dome
Yes it's spectacular as they are bringing all the blocks they are bringing them from lakes in Finland
The hotel was built using 70 000 tons and 180 000 blocks
Then they go on to make a bunch of figures
That is not only the rooms but here in the background they make them in each room
There are 7 rooms in this hotel specifically
And each room has a figure that is a typical legend from the area
There are also some common animals
Then there are also some sculptures in the main areas where we have been taking shots
This is a drink like fruit with a little bit of alcohol
It's quite tasty
There are also impressive ice sculptures there in that main area
The same ones they are from the local culture from the local history
For example the Vikings the Sami who are indigenous people living in this part of the north
To provide some context the Sami are an ethnic group that has lived in the northern parts of the Scandinavian countries for thousands of years
And in fact they coexisted with the Viking Age and met on more than one occasion
The issue is that the Vikings were afraid of the Sami
Because the Sami have always been associated with magic and the spiritual
They associated the Sami with the wind
And they were afraid that if they went against the Sami or did something to them the Sami would take away their wind through this connection they had
This is what would prevent the Viking empire from expanding later
Because wind was essential for moving across the sea
This ethnic group wears traditional clothing
It is always made from fur and obtained from animals mainly reindeer
They live in a very traditional way in the mountains They feed
on what they can hunt and live in homes they create themselves
The details of the figures are spectacular That is it
is definitely worth
visiting all of this There are tours
Staying here isn't very cheap But
you can take tours and see only
what the hotel has to offer Then well you also have that option
In addition to doing other activities around here
These are the rooms where we are going to sleep
This is an example
All seven rooms are the same
The only thing that changes is the figure on the headboard of the bed
The bathrooms are normal
Obviously because imagine taking a shower in an ice
bathroom No that would be too much
Then in the main cabin there are these bathrooms
Here we open
Here there are already regular showers
That is this is already a normal room
With its shower
The toilet just like that
Then that's all set
And there's also a room like a panic room
What if you're in a sleeping bag at night and something spills
For example if water or something that can get you wet falls on you
It's very important to get us into the dry sack
Then there's a panic room where you can change the sack
If you are suffering from a lot of cold at night and can't sleep in the room You are unable to
Then you will go to that room with the bag and sleep there
It's a warm normal room
That's all
So now we're going on a hike
We're going to do a trail with
snowshoes Through here through
the forest So nothing else
It's not too late but it's a completely dark night
So it's going to be interesting to walk this way through the forest
And then we'll have dinner in this inner part
We are here doing the snowshoe activity through the forest
It won't be visible much because I'm here with the headlamp
But anyway we're entering the forest
And it's very good because with so much darkness the auroras are better to see
What's happening tonight
So nothing this looks promising
We are here walking on snow to get everything ready To
be able to make a fire in the middle
So nothing else everyone cooperating
No no
We are ready to go to sleep here at the ice hotel
It's starting to get a bit cold You're eager aren't you Alex
Yes yes good I'm looking forward to it
It's going to be interesting
Here as I told you there are seven rooms
and we have to choose one
But if we enter
here in one for example
Here is the little blanket
And there is
this figure As you
can see this is what it is the
structure of the bed completely
made of ice just like the floor
It is all ice The figure that
protects us in this
case this throne
And then the bed
which is indeed a mattress Here this
is reindeer hide which is
used a lot in
Shami culture for
It generates heat it is used
to make clothes and it keeps you
very warm it is very strong Then here we have the mattress
A regular
mattress not made of ice and the pillow It's very
good it's going to be a different
experience very original
And nothing let's see how it is because it's quite cold
Now we are completely dressed in warm clothes
even though it's quite cold
But anyway we're going to sleep in
sleeping bags that is we're not just going
to sleep on this without more but we're going to sleep inside sleeping bags
They are special for these temperatures
Then you could even sleep naked
because as they don't let any heat
escape just with the temperature
The heat we are generating
is enough So sleep well
wrapped up in the bag
tightly closed and then yes
You have to put a hat on your head to cover a bit of the face even
if it's just the head because that 's
where most of the heat escapes
We did a short snowshoe
walk through the forest but
it was fun because the
guide was telling us stories
a lot of local stories from the
indigenous people the Ami who live in the area a
lot of very
interesting things about the wildlife
About how they feed how they live etc
And we have made a fire that
is here in the middle of the forest in the middle of the snow
And nothing we had a little
chocolate we saw
the auroras for
a while they were quite good and
went back to the main hut
Let's have dinner We
had dinner well typical
here we had reindeer with mushrooms and such
Very good the guide cooks very well and then a
salmon which is also very
tasty I was already full
I couldn't take it anymore but on top of the dessert
he brought some marshmallows that come with some
cookies so you take the one you want
You toast the marshmallow over the fire you
put it between two cookies and you eat it
There's a marshmallow sandwich there
It's incredible The truth is it 's
been a brutal experience an
experience I highly
recommend it's not
The most economical but if you
have the option it's something super
original that you probably won't
repeat and it's really well worth it
And tomorrow there
are still new
excursions related to all this
that we've booked so let's see
if we can catch another aurora
It depends on the weather and if not we'll
go to sleep because it's late it's twelve
We have to wake up at eight to
have breakfast We are all here
We're staying here as if we don't want to we don't want to
come to sleep because it's
a bit chilly but okay already
It's going to start soon and
we'll see how the experience is
Forward
Close the door so the heat doesn't escape
Well as you can see
this is the bed we're going to sleep in
Here we will sleep together As
you can see it's full of hair
I don't know if it will be visible here and these hairs are
All of them don't
think they clean them but they are
from these reindeer blankets which are super warm
Here you can see it but anyway now we'll put the bag
we have to go get it and a pillow
And there's also a mattress
what else could you ask for Well that's it
I'm back in the room
I have
the bag here almost no clothes left I'm
here dying of cold What
a night what a night Wait
Well Alex are you comfortable
Well that's it for today's
video I hope you liked it
I'm going to lock myself in
here in the little bag and
Nothing let's see how it goes
We spent the night but well this looks promising
Certainly it's one of the most
original nights I've had in my life
And for now I'm fine
For now I'm not cold so
I think I'll start taking off layers during the night
Because this bag is very
durable but well I'll tell you more
tomorrow Goodbye until tomorrow
