Dr Paul Coceancig is an oral & maxillofacial surgeon. He practices in Surry Hills in Sydney Australia - as well as Newcastle, New South Wales. Utilising six methods of designing and treating faces through corrective jaw surgery, he wrote a book called “6Ways To Design A Face” - and offers hope to provide a cure for sleeping and snoring problems caused by small jaws and obstructive sleep apnea. In this video Dr Paul is being coached by Jessica Ridley to introduce himself on camera, and to begin a wider conversation on his life and ideas
All right, what's your introduction doctor?
My name is Paul, I'm a surgeon. I work with facial reconstruction and
basically my life's reduced to treating people with sleep apnea. I work with lots of people
who are dentists and doctors and orthodontists. I'm married, I have five children and I have a
house in Newcastle where I live but I come to Sydney where we are right now in Surrey Hills,
private kiosk. But actually more recently we've gone through COVID and
this sea change has occurred where everybody's talking on Zoom and people are expecting that
I see them now in this digital environment and so I'm hoping to improve the way I deliver a message
and I don't feel so self-conscious of myself.
Great, cool. And what drives you out of bed every morning? What do you love about
what you do for a living?
Well, I bought a Land Cruiser truck and that gets me out of bed.
Actually, the best thing about my job as it's transpired is I'm getting called by people around
the world just to have conversations about a thing I invented which makes me feel really good
about myself and I get to talk to them about how they might take on what I'm here in Australia
themselves from whatever territory or country or state of the world that they live in and that
gets me out of bed in the morning. And the second thing that gets me out of bed are patients, people,
clients that ring me up and say I'm drowning, I'm obstructing on something in the back of my
throat, I can't get asleep, I have a brain fog and I hear that you can fix it make it go away
and they talk to me and I say yeah I can fix that and that's quite self-empowering and I feel good
about it and so I get out of bed thinking I've got more of these people I can get to talk to
and today the thing that got me out of bed was you. Yeah, because I'm really excited about this.
Being able to talk a little bit better and self-present and maybe share a message
to the community benefit but not necessarily being seen to be self-serving or trying to
drive patients to me but simply giving hope or promise of a cure that they can hopefully see
with other people who may be similarly motivated to do the same procedures.
Awesome, so much good in there. My name's Paul and what I do for a living is a little bit hard to
describe but I am a surgeon and I use things that I learned in surgery to give people hope
of a cure of a better night's sleep and it's mostly for people who have small jaws
and it's mostly for people who snore and if you come to see me I hope that you and I can become
friends and I can cure you and I hope that you can have a better life because and if you do
it would mean I have a better life for it too. Cool, this is great. Hi, my name's Dr Paul
I am a maxillofacial surgeon. I work in facial reconstruction and jaw surgery
and I think you found me because your child snores and you're looking for a solution.
I hope I can give you hope to find that solution. Great, great, great. Yeah,
she doesn't even know what you do although there's another option out there.
Hi, my name's Paul, I'm a maxillofacial surgeon. I know you've been given advice. I know that you
have a whole heap of options on your plate for your child like braces and taking out teeth and
so forth but I want to give you hope that there's something else that if you come and see me I can
help explain it to you. It involves jaw surgery but don't be scared about it. I'm here to help.
Great, great. I'm a maxillofacial surgeon. I reconstruct faces and I'm super specialised
in jaw correction surgery. I give hope to helping people with obstructive sleep apnea
and a better life and opportunity for living. Great, we're getting someone. Hi, my name's
I am a maxillofacial surgeon. I'm involved in facial reconstruction surgery and that
involves a lot of procedures which we have adapted and evolved and recreated to grow
faces and jaws and fix bites and airways and give self-esteem and opportunity and hope for a cure.
Great, great Angie. Hi, my name is Dr Paul Kochiangit. I am a maxillofacial surgeon.
It's a difficult word to say. I am involved in jaw surgery and I've invented a number of
methods and ways to make little jaws bigger and help with bad bites and neck postures
as well as self-confidence and the elimination of snoring for obstructive sleep apnea.
Hi, my name is Dr Paul Kochiangit. I'm a maxillofacial surgeon.
I'm trained in facial reconstruction surgery but you might not know that
there is a series of operations that I pioneered to help children with small jaws and if you're
wondering if there's another way to treat your child I would love to be able to meet you.
Great, great. Let's try it again and unfold your arms. Okay. Yep, that was a good start.
Yep. Okay, all right. Is that all right? Yeah, great. Hi, my name is Dr Paul Kochiangit. I am
a maxillofacial surgeon. I live here in Australia and I am about to come to Indianapolis to speak
with all my peers there and hopefully all my new friends. I'll be speaking on three
main points. One, two, three. The face, the airway and the bite and how we can all coordinate
our treatments for the benefit of our patients. New ways, including INDO and custom titanium
bimax surgery. Hi, my name is Dr Paul Kochiangit. I'm a maxillofacial surgeon. I live in Australia
and I'm about to talk at the University of Indianapolis. I really look forward to meeting
you all and speaking to you and to give you new ideas as to how jaw surgery can help you
perform orthodontics or surgery if you're a surgeon yourself. I look forward to meeting you.
