As the owner of Hotel Goldener Berg in Oberlech, Daniela knows that the Arlberg region has a long history of hospitality.
Lech Zürs is on the top of the Arlberg, surrounded by mountains. Once upon a time a traveler needed a place to stay for the night. This encouraged more travelers and slowly transformed the local farm houses into hotels. The mindset of the owners hasen’t changed throughout the generations though. They still see their hotels as their farm houses, their homes, and treat every guest as part of the family.
The need of transporting goods in the winter turned the Arlberg into the cradle of the modern alpine skiing. Ski Arlberg, with its 305km of slopes, is Austria’s biggest interconnected ski area and among the largest in the world. One of its perfectly groomed slopes leads directly to the 4-star superior Hotel Goldener Berg, which is renowned for its high end cuisine, using organic and local products wherever possible.
The famous White Ring encompasses a number of slopes and lifts, leading you across 22km to some of the best places in the entire ski resort.
It's a very old place. People back then knew better than we do today where to build houses.
It's so lovely because it's surrounded by these beautiful mountains that we
look right onto. It gives you the taste of freedom and also the quietness of the mountains.
Most of the hotels are still owned by local people. It used to be their home, it used to
be their farm, which grew into a hotel. But we still maintain the places as our farms, as our
homes. And that's really our strength to take everybody who comes here into this family.
Alberg, Lech, Zürs is one of the biggest skiing areas in the world. It's the biggest in Austria.
Everything has been connected already by our grandfathers. There's the white circuit here from
Lech to Zürs to Zug and back via Oberlech to Lech. But of course now we also have a connection
to Wart, the next village, as well as a great connection that has been built two years ago
over to Rautz, which connects us to St. Anton and St. Christoph now. So a really, really huge skiing
area. We're situated right on the piece, so lots of skiers come for lunch, which is great.
On the main patio in the hotel we do grill outside, so we have beautiful steaks at lunchtime.
We try to buy our products by organic farmers from this region. Next door we have Alter Goldener
Berg, which dates back to 1430, so a really, really old farmer's house. And there we do
real Austrian specialities like Kässpätzle or Wiener Schnitzel and of course Kaiserschmarrn.
You can never miss Kaiserschmarrn up on the mountain. We really do have the sun all day long
and the beautiful Omershorn, which is like our home mountain, which is also the mountain where
the very famous ski run Madloch comes down. And it is a beautiful mountain and I can see
it every morning when I get up and in every weather situation, it's always beautiful.
