BMW C400X and GT
BMW entered the middleweight class of scooters very recently. The all-new C400X had dealerships
in 2018 and the upcoming GT model will sit alongside after the next year's release.
Both scoots belong to the premium segment and that is why it can boast of a rich combination
of performance, tech and comfort. The efficiency-optimized single-cylinder 350cc engine
outputs 34 hp and 26 lb-ft of torque, channeled via CVT. It goes without saying that ABS comes as
a standard and it is further enhanced by automatic stability control for safe acceleration on slippery
roads. The monocoque design was abandoned and the chassis features a rugged tubular steel frame.
Out of the two, the Grand Touring model shines with an updated storage system,
including two gloveboxes and a flex case under the seat that can fit two helmets.
Yamaha T-Max
This is the brand's best-selling scooter model that has been on the market since 2000.
The vehicle is sold in three variations, Base, SX and DX, featuring a lightweight aluminum chassis,
a length-type rear suspension and a high-tech traction control system.
Regardless of the model, the T-Max is powered by a high-output 530cc twin-cylinder four-stroke
engine that delivers 45 hp and 39 lb-ft of torque, offering dynamic riding experience
and smooth but extremely fast acceleration. It also boasts of a sporty motorcycle-like design
and such premium features as keyless ignition, central LED control screen,
TFT tachometer and speedometer, plus a special center stand locking system
for maximum protection from theft. At the same time, the top-of-the-line T-Max DX
gets cruise control, electrically adjustable windshield, as well as heated seat and grips
as standard. Honda Forza 300
On the market since the year 2000, Forza 300 gets thoroughly reworked this model here,
shedding 25 lbs of weight due to its fully revised chassis and a shorter wheelbase.
The maxi-scooter features significant design upgrades, now boasting of a sportier look
with sleeker lines, all-LED lighting and a larger 14-inch rear wheel. In addition,
it offers a higher and comfier riding position for better visibility levels
and a full wind protection with a new electronically adjustable windscreen.
New Honda is powered by a single-cylinder four-stroke engine with 279 cc displacement
and a maximum output of 25 hp and 20 lb-ft of torque. Plus, to improve handling and ride control
under any road conditions, it gets a Honda Selectable Torque Control system that can
be switched off. Suzuki Bergman
Suzuki is represented in the middleweight maxi-scooter segment by its Bergman 400 model,
which offers a good mix of comfort, practicality and power. Featuring ergonomic design and
motorcycle-like performance, the 400 comes with a 399 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine
and has enough power to cruise freeways at 75 mph. It also has decent acceleration and
handles well at high speeds due to a smooth suspension and an advanced automatic CVT
transmission. The instrument panel of Bergman 400 combines analog speedometer, tachometer
and multi-purpose digital LCD screen with a programmable oil service indicator. In addition,
there is echo drive indicator, which lights on when the scooter is ridden in a fuel-efficient
manner, helping the owner optimize fuel consumption and achieve the claimed 54 mpg value.
BMW C Evolution
The statement by BMW that C Evolution is the urban commuting of tomorrow
is supported by the fact that it is the only electric maxi-scooter offering on today's market.
Since this powertrain is a permanently excited synchronous e-motor,
the maximum 48 hp and 53 lb-ft of torque are available from a standstill,
allowing for dynamic performance. 2.8 sec 0-30 and 80 mph top speed will let you feel
comfortable in the busy traffic and even on the occasional highway journeys.
This e-scooter uses the BMW i3 Source battery technology that stores 99 miles of range,
which is sufficient for the majority of daily rides. C Evolution is a one-of-a-kind vehicle
that immediately attracts attention thanks to its electric green accent color, distinctive front,
large TFT color display and noiseless zooming through the streets.

Yamaha X-Maxx Iron Maxx
Available in two displacement options, 300 and 400 cc, Iron Maxx is a new range-topping
scooter from Yamaha that has any other X-Maxx model as inspired by the company's iconic T-Maxx
scooter. The two-wheeler belongs to a premium segment of the market, featuring sportier
performance and unique design elements, such as chrome accents on the console,
new sword gray color scheme, dual LED headlights and a darkened rear section of the body that is
reminiscent of luxury cars. For improved riding comfort, it also comes with a number of new
Iron Maxx exclusive features, including a dual seat with backrest and lumbar support,
aluminum footrests and leather interior pads. Both 300 and 400 models have enough underseat
space to fit two helmets and are equipped with traction control, keyless ignition,
and a new LCD screen and 12-volt outlet.
Piaggio MP3
After the discontinuation of X-10, the mantle of the flagship model from Piaggio was passed
on to the next-in-line powerful tilting machine MP3, which has been on the market since 2006.
The name of this model is an acronym of Motto Piaggio A Tre Route, Italian for Piaggio
motorcycle with three wheels. The range consists of four trims, standard, sport, business and
urban. The Italian manufacturer markets these goods as a safer and more convenient means of
transportation. The tadpole design coupled with ABS and ASR traction control as well
as the roll-out feature makes riding safer and super convenient. The MP3's engine bay
is represented by single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve liquid-cooled mills with 278,
330 and 483 cc displacements that output 21, 31 and 44 hp respectively.
Kemco AK550
Founded over 50 years ago, this Taiwanese company offers a variety of ATVs and two-wheelers
and in 2017 it managed to become the fifth largest scooter manufacturer in the world.
The brand's most recent addition to its scooter family is AK550, an all-new maxi scooter that
combines touring capabilities with sporty performance and riding practicality. In the
features dual-disc Brembo caliper brakes for superb cornering and braking and a 550 cc
dual-cylinder engine that generates 53 hp and 41 lb-ft of torque. The scooter has two power modes,
full and rain, and can adjust to any weather conditions. The first mode features normal
power delivery, maximum torque output and sporty acceleration and the latter is more cautious,
curtailing the engine to increase rider control on slippery surfaces.
Vespa GTS
Even though Vespa seems like an oddball in this lineup of maxi scooters, since it is rather
underpowered and lacks extra storage space, we still felt compelled to feature the world's most
renowned scooter brand. GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport and gets equipped with the most
powerful Vespa engine, a 278 cc single-cylinder coupled with a twist-and-go CVT with torque
server. This version of the Italian two-wheeler abandons the drum brakes and makes the transition
towards the modern 220 mm disc brakes with ABS protection and ASR traction control to monitor
wheel slippage and reduce power when the rider is losing control. The super trim of this vehicle
gets a signature grille, new black crimps, analog and digital instrument panel, and the new color
options. Kawasaki J300
Introduced back in 2013, this is the first maxi scooter designed by Kawasaki.
To date, the model has evolved into an ultimate urban solution that combines comfort, practicality,
and sportiness. The two-wheeler is equipped with 299 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine,
powerful enough to carry two passengers with ease. Its ergonomic design and sporty suspension
settings improve riding control and stability, while the dual-pedal brakes with ABS provide
maximum stopping power in any conditions. The scooter has a secure under-seat storage,
which offers 22 pounds of space and can easily fit a helmet. To keep your ride safe while you're
away, J300 has an anti-theft ignition switch with a shutter. The other features Kawasaki adds to the
package include multifunctional LCD screen, sealed glovebox with 12-volt outlet, LED rear lights,
and adjustable brake levers. COOTER
If you're used to the definition of a scooter as a two-wheel vehicle and were confused with
the introduction of three-wheel models, you shall be even more baffled by the arrival of the world's
first production four-wheel model from the Switzerland-based Quadro Vehicles. This motorbike
offers a whole new experience on the road by combining safety and intuitive driving.
Its powerful 400 cc engine works together with a stepless CVT, has integrated differential,
and outputs 32 hp and 28 lb-ft of torque. The revolutionary double hydropneumatic system
ensures simultaneous tilt of all four wheels, following every curve on the road and always
maintaining its grip on it. 45-degree leans become possible even at crawling speeds,
and chances are that you will fall off the scooter earlier than it falls over.
So what do you say? Can maxi-scooters match performance of fully-fledged motorcycles?
