Astronauts have seen many weird things across their space travels, and today we'll be
presenting you with the weirdest ones so far.
Number 10, Gordon Cooper's Green Orb.
First up, we have Gordon Cooper from the Mercury 7, who participated in the Mercury Atlas 9
and his eerie UFO sighting experience, and the last American to fly in space alone.
On May 15th, 1963, he shot into space in a Mercury capsule for a 22-orbit journey around
the world.
During that journey, a glowing green object would approach his capsule.
During the final orbit of the flight, Cooper told the tracking station at Muchia that he
saw a glowing greenish object ahead of him quickly approaching his capsule.
The UFO was picked up by Muchia's tracking radar.
When Cooper landed, reporters were told that they would not be allowed to question him
about the UFO sighting.
Why would that be?
Could it be a cover-up?
Number 9, Exploding UFO.
Did you know that Vladimir Kovalyonok watched a UFO explode?
Kovalyonok was part of a crew manipulating the Salyut 6 space station in 1981, where
he claimed that when he was working on it, he saw something strange in a porthole one
day.
An object the size of a finger, which he was surprised to see, was an orbiting object.
However, he was unable to determine the size and speed of it.
He couldn't exactly say which size it was, and when he was about to take a picture of
it, the UFO exploded, leaving only a cloud of smoke behind.
The object split into two interconnected pieces, and he also mentioned that it looked like
a dumbbell.
He went ahead and reported it to mission control afterwards.
Number 8, Musa Manirov.
Musa Manirov, during a Mir mission in 1991, supposedly saw a visiting space capsule dock
nearby.
He filmed its approach and saw an object that looked like it was coming off the spacecraft.
From December 21, 1987 to December 21, 1988, he flew as flight engineer on Soyuz TM-4.
The flight duration was 365 days, 22 hours, 38 minutes.
From December 2, 1990 to May 26, 1991, he flew again as flight engineer on Soyuz TM-11.
The duration was 175 days, 1 hour, 50 minutes, the longest continuous time spent in space
by anyone at that time.
During his 176-day stay, Manirov observed the Earth and worked in space manufacturing.
He also performed 20 hours of spacewalks.
Launched jointly with the private Japanese company TBS, the Japanese television network
ended up paying $28 million for the first flight to Mir to put Akiyama, the first journalist
in space, aboard Soyuz TM-11.
Akiyama made daily television broadcasts.
Number 7, Story Musgrove.
Next up we have Story Musgrove, an American physician and retired NASA astronaut, public
speaker, and also a consultant to Disney's Imagineering Group and Applied Minds in California.
Musgrove became the second astronaut to fly on six spaceflights, being the most formally
educated astronaut with six academic degrees.
He claims to have seen eel-like tubes swim through space.
Most dismiss his claims and say he just saw space junk, but Musgrove stands by his story
and says that the white eel had its own propulsion technique.
Number 6, Leroy Chiao.
Leroy Chiao was the commander of the International Space Station in 2005.
He was on a spacewalk and saw white lights in an upside-down check formation zip right
past him.
Chiao flew on three space shuttle flights and was the commander of Expedition 10, where
he lived on board the International Space Station from October 13, 2004 to April 24,
2005.
Chiao's parents were both chemical engineers who immigrated to Milwaukee from Taiwan in
the late 1950s for graduate school.
Stressing a high doctorate-level science education, his parents encouraged him to follow their
lead and become an engineer.
Leroy Chiao told HuffPost,
I'm skeptical of claims that we've been visited by aliens from another planet or other dimension,
but I don't rule it out 100 percent.

Number 5, Neil Armstrong Found a Secret Alien Parking Lot
While alien life has always been researched by scientists and astronomers, no one has
confirmed anything as remotely close to possible alien space transportation than Neil Armstrong
after he landed on the moon.
The historic Apollo mission was led by reluctant American hero Neil Armstrong, alongside astronauts
Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin.
As mission commander, Armstrong had the privilege of being the first man to walk on the moon.
But up until his death at the age of 82 on August 27, 2012, the astronaut shied away
from the spotlight, choosing instead to live a private life.
Armstrong supposedly sent a secret message to NASA during the Apollo 11 mission back
in 1969.
He had said,
Three babies were huge, sir, enormous.
Oh God, you wouldn't believe it.
I'm telling you, there are other spacecraft out here, lined up on the far side of the
crater's edge.
They're on the moon watching us.
Number 4.
Zhang Liao Heard a Mysterious Knock Outside His Ship
China's first man in space had a pretty strange experience while he was up there.
On his maiden flight in 2003, he recalled years later that he heard someone knocking
on the body of the spaceship, similar to the sound of knocking an iron bucket with a wooden
hammer.
Kind of a specific description, but still very worrying.
He said it neither came from outside nor inside the spaceship.
This caused him to get very nervous and even peek out of the porthole, but never found
any explanation for the strange knock.
Unsurprisingly, the story about unexplained mystery sounds in space has garnered quite
a bit of attention.
What or who was knocking on Mr. Yang's spacecraft as he was all alone miles from the safety
of Earth?
Especially given the fact that since there's no medium for sound to travel in space, one
would expect it to be silent.
For his first time in space, this one's definitely a weird experience for him.
Now that we've arrived to the top three, make sure to stay until the end of our video
to learn more about the weirdest thing astronauts have seen in space.
Number 3.
Astronauts Saw Fire Burn Without a Flame During an experiment from 2009 to 2012, astronauts
lit things on fire in space because they wanted to know how fire worked in cosmos.
They found that fire burns at lower temperatures and with less fuel, and that microgravity
can even burn without a blaze.
The team leader for the project, Foreman Williams, told Space.com,
Thus far, the most surprising thing we've observed is continued apparent burning of
heptane droplets after flame extinction under certain conditions.
Currently, this is entirely unexplained.
Number 2.
A conspiracy theorist thinks Alan Bean saw glass domes on the moon.
Richard C. Hoagland is the proponent of alternate space theories, and he thought Alan Bean found
glass domes from a long-extinct alien civilization on the moon.
Bean described space in an interview as looking like black patent leather shows from the front
part of the moon.
Alan Bean walked on the moon on Apollo 12, commanded the second Skylab crew, and then
resigned after 18 years as an astronaut to paint the remarkable worlds and sights he'd seen.
The only explanation given for Hoagland's interpretation was that he was seeing a glass
dome, and through the glass dome he saw space.
Number 1.
Multiple astronauts saw dazzling light shows.
The Apollo 11 astronauts reported seeing light flashes in their eyes during the mission.
The Apollo 12 and Apollo 13 crews were alerted of this and confirmed that even though their
eyes were closed, they sometimes saw odd flashes of light.
On the next four Apollo projects, tests were performed to try to find out what triggered
these odd dreams.
NASA determined the cosmic rays were visible to the astronauts.
Here on Earth, we don't see gamma rays because they're blocked by our atmosphere.
But in the space lair, explorers experienced what no one has ever seen before.
