Hi, people of the interwebs, it's your favorite band of warehouse Sarah here with another
car review.
And today I have this 2020 Dodge Charger 392 Crowe scat pack, wide body.
Hey Crowe, you like this car?
Yeah, this thing's hot, right?
Crowe likes it.
The Charger has been around for a hot minute now and they keep doing revisions to make
it stay relevant and sell.
And the wide body version has to be the best revision they have done yet.
Even though this is based still off of the LX platform that's been around since 2006,
it doesn't matter.
It still looks good in 2020.
It's why change it if it works.
Luckily, the hood scoop on the Charger is functional.
It's not just a black piece of plastic to simulate a hood scoop.
And this car is equipped with radar cruise control.
So they didn't really have anywhere that they could kind of hide it into the front fascia.
So it looks like it has a security camera from a blockbuster video in 1999 mounted in
the center of the grill.
On the grill, you get the scat pack emblem with a cute little super bee next to it doing
a burn ski.
I personally think the wide body option that's available on the scat pack and the Hellcat
should be the only body configuration for the Charger.
It looks so incredibly good.
But I do see why it's an option because with the wide body, you have to fill the wheel
well with these massive 20 by 11 square stance deep concave wheels wrapped in 305 Pirellis.
Now these are all seasons, so it makes the car a little bit more fun to drive on asphalt
because they burn off pretty easily.
Behind these wheels are enormous six piston calipers with two piece 15.4 inch rotors.
These rotors are bigger than the wheels on some people's cars.
They're huge.
I love the fact that it has these little functional vents built into the rear bumper and they're
not just pieces of plastic to simulate a vent.
As well as the fact that it has a satin black rear wing adds a nice little touch, especially
on the silver car and it has this absolutely adorable little super bee logo on the trunk
lid.
It's cute.
It gives the car character and this thing has a ton of that.
Let me know in the comment section below, what do you personally prefer?
The two-door Challenger or the four-door Charger?
I think Dodge should bring back the Magnum Wagon and offer it in all the same configurations
as the Challenger and Charger, including a Hellcat.
Let me know in the comment section below, what do you guys think?
Let me hear it.
Magnum?
Wagon?
Hellcat?
Yes?
Mm-hmm.
Scat Pack?
Yes?
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
As far as the interior goes, you guys know how I roll.
I'm going to keep it short, sweet, and to the simple.
I'm not going to read off a brochure to you.
I'm just going to give you my physical observations, what it feels like to sit in this 392 Scat
Pack at this very second.
And speaking of this very second, this seat, bolstering wise, is a win.
There is almost a bolstering effect in this rear seat.
Never seen that before.
That's weird.
And it has Alcantara suede in the center, which is one of my favorite materials used
in interior.
And on top of that, it has the little super bee embroidered into the center of the seat.
And it adds another touch of character to this car.
So much character.
Because there's another little bee on the dash over here right next to the numbers 392
to let you know you're in a 392.
Nice.
My rear seats are heated as well with two heat settings.
As far as the rest of the interior goes, it's a mixed bag in here.
I feel there's a lot of cheap materials used that are not going to age well.
I really wish Dodge would have carried the suede over onto the door cards instead of
using this red leather.
It just does not look like it's going to age well.
And up here on the dashboard as well, the material is used up here is kind of hard.
It's like leather wrapped plastic.
The infotainment system that is in here is fun to use.
It is integrated with all kinds of track and chassis adjustable goodies in here.
The sound system is a Harman Kardon and it sounds amazing.
It does have your satellite radio, obviously.
And then you can go into this function right here for your climate control, turn on your
heated seats, your ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, all that other stuff.
And then you have an apps area right here with all kinds of goodies packed into it.
Wi-Fi hotspot.
But more importantly, this right here, the SRT dashboard.
Now in here, you have all your different drive modes.
I have it set on auto right now.
I also have custom that I've configured myself.
And then as well as there is a sport mode and a track mode.
And then you do have this performance page right here, which takes kind of a while to
load.
Inside performance pages, you have a bunch of different menu systems that you can go
into.
I won't go through all of them, but for example, you have right here a little engine dynamometer,
which is pretty cool.
It shows you your torque and horsepower, then go in here.
And then you have a G-force gauge and it shows you like your different Gs.
And then you also have more gauges that are individually configurable.
There's actually two pages of them, but there is a ton of stuff packed into here.
I appreciate the fact that right down here by the climate control, Dodge incorporated
a button for your launch control, as well as the disable the traction control in your
drive modes right here.
Easily accessible.
So you don't have to go digging through the menu system when you accidentally pull up
next to someone at the lights.
And the only thing you're thinking about digging is into the asphalt when you give it the beans.
Center console has a little slidey boy right here to hide your cup holders and you can
open up the cubby to find storage for your coins, which I've never seen anyone ever use
other than my grandparents and apparently the penguin.
Get your head out of there.
Oh, what?
There's a center console in this thing too.
That is cool.
I've never seen that in the back of the seat of a car, to have its own little console.
This is the part of the view that I've been waiting for, even though I've been driving
this thing already for a couple of days.
It sounds so good.
It's kind of sad when we let you rev it to four grand in neutral.
I get it though.
It's automatic.
A lot of cars do that.
I just can't get enough of it.
In the name of science, I am now going to give it some beans.
I'm going to keep it in drive mode instead of using the paddle shifters just because
the computer is smarter than I am, let's be honest here.
I am going to put it into track mode and this car does have launch control potentially.
It may or may not be, or have been, or potentially in the future be tested.
Cannot say.
All right.
Let's give it some beans.
Ready.
Set.
Go.
Go cargo.
Oh man, this thing rips.
All right.
That's good enough.
I'm not going to say...
Oh man, I could do that like 500 more times.
Nicely.
Wedge struts too.
Awesome.
Hello and welcome to Garage Science with Sarah.
Powering this 2020 Dodge Charger 392 Scat Pack wide body is a 392 cubic inch 6.4 liter
Hemi V8 that produces 485 horsepower at 6,100 RPM and 475 pound feet of torque at 4,100
RPM.
It's a nice, simplistic, clean, attractive engine bay.
I like how it has Charger written out right here above your radiator cowl.
And if you look over here, there's an upside down salad bowl on top of the strut tower.
That's clean looking.
Also says powered by SRT.
And if you look down inside there, the block is powder coated orange.
Nice.
One person watching right now was surprised that the 392 badge on the side of the car
represents how many cubic inches the engine is.
One person.
The more you know.
Time for the braking test.
No one behind me.
Oh!
Holy sh...
Hi.
I'm back for round two.
So the transmission that is found in this Charger is a 8HP70 ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
It's made in Germany.
It's not an American transmission they outsourced.
And the pairing of this ZF 8-speed and the 6.4 liter Hemi is heavenly.
I just love the combination of this torquey V8 and the 8-speed that bangs off shifts faster
than I can snap my fingers.
It's magic.
Magic I tell you.
It even sounds like a DSG when it changes gears too.
Little farts.
This right here is one of my favorite things about this car.
Short shifting.
When you short shift in this, it makes little DSG farts.
And I know it's not a DSG.
It's an 8-speed automatic with a torque converter.
But still, traction management I believe, or the tune in the TC or something that gives
it that burble every time it shifts, especially when you shift below red line, it's addicting.
And it's violent too when it shifts.
It's nice.
Brrrrr.
Ah!
This thing crips.
Well, it can take a corner.
When I think of Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, I just think of drag cars.
And this thing is breaking that stereotype because you can chuck this thing into a corner
even with all-season tires.
Do not expect that from a car that weighs over 4,300 pounds.
The brakes are amazing.
God, the grip.
Oh my God.
My God.
This thing is like driving on rails.
This is the perfect amount of power too for this chassis.
When I drove the Demon Redeye, it was obnoxious.
It was silly.
It was a drag car.
It was fun, but it was ridiculous.
This is a manageable amount of power in this car.
The Demon Redeye that I drove was just absolutely ridiculous.
I mean, don't get me wrong.
It was fun.
It's a great drag car.
But in this chassis, I feel the 392 Scat Pack is perfectly balanced.
Like, this thing is fun to get crazy, and it's not scary when you get a little bit sideways
with it.
It's really manageable and playful almost.
I don't know why this platform is such because I don't know where I can go from here on.
It's awesome.
It makes a great daily.
It's super comfy.
Yeah, it's not the greatest on up for it because of the noises and the sidewaysness.
The trunk on it is huge.
You get lots of stuff in it.
Seats are comfy.
I could totally road trip cross-country in this thing.
It gets all kinds of thumbs up no matter where you go.
It's got some faults, but, man, I really like this thing a lot.
So, if you guys have never seen all my car reviews before, I have multiple categories
that make zero sense to the average car buyer.
But, for those of you that get the way my brain works, I have three categories for this
review.
The Bean Score, the Penguin Score, and the Cookie Score.
First up, the Bean Score is a rating of 1 to 5 beans based on the feeling you get in
your gut when you give it the beans.
And this 2020 Charger Scat Pack is going to get a rating of 3 beans.
This thing's got so much torque down low.
I love it.
And it sounds amazing, too.
Up next is the Cookie Category.
It is an overall assessment of what you get for what you pay.
And the Charger is going to get a rating of 3 cookies.
I feel this is better value than the Hellcat.
Yes, more horsepower is always fun, but I don't think more horsepower necessarily makes
this a better car.
If you want more power, buy a Scat Pack and put your own supercharger or turbos or whatever
you want on it.
Last up is the Penguin Category.
It's an overall assessment of how I personally like this car.
And this Charger gets a rating of 3 penguins.
I like this car a lot.
I don't know if I would buy one because there's so much else I could spend that money on,
but this is one of my favorites so far in the muscle car area.
And I don't care that this is an aging platform.
It's a great recipe.
Why change it if it works?
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this review, and I will see you soon with another.
Bye!
