In this video, I go float fishing for fall Steelhead on one of the most dangerous dams in the entire Great Lakes. Low-head dams must be waded with extreme caution and I highly advise people not to fish this type of structure unless you're an experienced wader being comfortable in fast water. Hope you enjoy my first FALL STEELHEAD FISHING video of the year!
You said you wanted to be in my video. Yeah. What do you have to say? Stay away from this place.
What's going on guys, Chiefs here and in today's video we're going to be going out and chasing
some false steelhead. I had a couple days off between my salmon season to kind of switch
gears and switch over to steelhead and because of that I'm back at home. So we're going to fish
some of the local water, grabbing some coffee, gonna get a breakfast sandwich really quick and
we're gonna try to hit this first light bite, see what we can do. It's nice to be back on the home
water. I will say if you guys are going to go out and try fishing this place, please use some sort
of caution. This is not a river that you want to play around with. A lot of the spots that I'm going
to be going out to are a little more technical waiting. Slippery rocks with fast water and this
is not a river that you want to fall into. I'm serious. If you don't know what you're doing man,
you can get yourself into some trouble real quick. So just wanted to put that out there.
I'm just going to say it again guys, be careful out here especially if you want to come out here
and be one of the early guys. I just slipped right there. Yeah, the water came up definitely
since the other day. Know what you're doing here guys. Fast flowing water. What's that?
Oh, Steely! Oh no, I wasn't looking. No, come on. What do you want? You want a bead peg?
You came here without any bead pegs knowing you were going to ask, didn't you?
It's okay, I understand. Here, I'll give you a couple dude. Here you go buddy. Should get you
four good pegs there. Here's one more. Oh my god, I got it. Dude, I was looking through the lens and
all of a sudden I just watched the bobber go down. There we go. Get that fish, bro. Let's go,
baby. Bull it, dude. Freaking bull it. Now your glow vase won't be warm. Let's go, dude. Hell
yeah. Pull that bead set, baby. Chop, chop, baby. Let's go. Let's go, Brody. Brody on the camera
right now. Guys, I'm going to show you my setup really quick. We have an 11 foot 10 to 17
fast action rod. This is a Max Custom rod. Love this dude's rods. We've got a 3000 Shimano
Vanford reel with 40 pound test braid. And for our terminal tackle, we're going to be running
a line to line leader right here. This is 40 pound braid to 20 pound FC sniper
with about a six foot leader here. A 15 gram Raven float with three pieces of surgical tubing.
We've got two size seven water gremlin split shots. And about three and a half feet beneath
that, we have three more size seven water gremlin split shots. A big fat barrel swivel right here.
I don't like to go small on my barrel swivels. Two tri-lean knots on the top and bottom of the
barrel. Our bait today is a, I don't know, probably just under two foot leader of 16 pound
FC sniper. We've got a halfway BB shot coming down to a 10 millimeter bead. I've been switching
colors on and off throughout the day, depending on light conditions and just to switch it up in
the hole because sometimes you'll switch a color and bam, you'll get smacked. So 10 millimeter bead
and especially with this 16 pound, I like to run a ag loop knot. We're not putting any bait in the
ag loop, but I find that when I do my normal eight to 10 turn snell knot, I'm breaking my leader off
before my hook bends. So big fat knot on there. And we have a size two Raven specialist hook.
I really like to run single beads here, double beads. I follow hook a lot of fish,
they get wrapped and I have a way better landing ratio. Something I've started doing
recently. It's been working well. So that's the setup we got. Let's go catch some more fish.
This is what I do for anything really 16 pound test and above. So you're going to want to run
your line through your eyelet here. Pinch it off. You got a tag end right there, right?
Pinch it. We're going to do counterclockwise eight wraps, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight. Pinch off your wraps with your other hand. We're going to take our long tag end here,
our super long end, run it back through the eyelet. So it's going to go through the back
of the hook like this still. So we're going to keep it all pinched off. And with the same line
that we did our original loops with, we're going to go eight more times. So one, two, three, four,
five, six, seven, eight. I like to get saliva on it. So it's wet. So this line slides through
and we're going to pull this tag end right through. And so we pull, pull, pull, pull, pull,
and cinch it down. And you got a nice fat knot right there. And then like I said,
we're just running a 10 millimeter chartreuse bead today. So I forgot. I don't know if I think
this is a Slane Steel or a Great Lakes bead. I'm not a hundred percent sure. I forgot. I'm
still learning the names on a lot of these beads and trying to pay more attention to them.
And so we're going to take a bead peg here. I like using colored pegs with chartreuse. It creates a
little blood dot on it. So sometimes I'll run a red or a orange or a yellow. It just adds a nice
contrast. There it is. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Feels good. Big head shakes,
man. Big head shakes. Oh yeah. That's a nice one. Oh my God. Oh my God.
I'm into my backing. Dude, I'm into my backing. Oh my God. I don't know how big it is.
Sweet guys. A little bit on the larger side for today, but haven't really hooked a lot of fish
over eight pounds or so. I'd say about six to eight is our average. Well,
finally hooked into one that's probably pushing that 10 class. Nice female. Crazy fight.
Like the same size. This is a big fish. Oh my God.
Oh, that's a nice one. That's a nice fish, dude.
Yeah. Yeah. Here, Brody, look out. Oh my God. Thanks, buddy.
Oh my God. What? Oh my God. Really? Oh, that was, no. People are trolling them.
Dude, I'm almost to my backing, dude. Dude, I'm to my backing. Ready? She's coming up,
coming up. He's swimming right up. It's not that big, is it? I can't tell. Oh,
she's a good one. Oh, heck yeah. Here we go, guys. Freaking crumbling. That's what it's all about,
man. Fish like this are why I come out here. A lot of cheap.

where I take people on float trips down the river targeting salmon and steelhead. I've
just finished my salmon season. I'm transitioning over into fall steelhead. I have a couple of dates
open in November. And if you guys are interested, feel free to hit me up through chiefstrips.com
