Forza Horizon 4 is out now, and it's freaking awesome.
I've had an amazing time binge playing this game, leveling up and playing
throughout the different story missions.
However, Forza Horizon 4 isn't without its problems.
Please, no, no.
And with my recent review coming out, I pretty much pointed out everything
I absolutely loved about the game and also what I didn't love about the game.
This is a video not of hate, but plausible advice from the community
and also myself of maybe how the game could get better.
Of course, I'm going to keep playing this game, but with this list
of just five things, I really do think the game would be 100% better.
Is this going to be a nitpicky video?
You bet, because constructive criticism is not hate.
We are going to just analyze Forza Horizon 4's flaws.
Number one is a big one.
No Toyota and no Mitsubishi.
Having licensing rights to a video game or a movie
is one of the biggest law nightmares of all time.
Gaining any kind of rights to any kind of platform is extremely tough.
We know that on YouTube when it comes to music.
A good comparison is, say, I want to use this copyrighted song.
I use the copyrighted song without permission and boom, I get demonetized.
It's the same way with Forza.
If they were to use a Toyota Supra without Toyota's licensing permission,
they could get in big, giant trouble.
The first car I always build in a Forza Horizon game as tradition
is the Toyota Supra, because I always wanted to see
how powerful they made the 2JZ in Forza Horizon.
But this time it felt empty.
It felt kind of sad going throughout all my cars.
I have these amazing cars like the Aston Martin Vulcan and even 007
James Bond movie rights is incredible to see when you build the Lotus
into a crazy submarine.
It's cool to see that they got the licensing rights of this,
but they couldn't get an Evo or a Supra in the game.
I understand that it's extremely tough to get the licensing
for all of these models of cars, but at the same time, it's a bummer.
Maybe further down the line, we'll get to see a Supra in Forza Horizon 4.
But as for now, it is pretty disappointing.
I'm sure there's more behind the scenes.
We don't know, but it's pretty sad.
Number two is the locked in seasons.
OK, this is a little unfair because I do think having variety to the game
is pretty cool.
But when I sign on and I can't choose the season myself,
that is kind of a bummer.
If I wanted to make a private online server kind of like in Forza Horizon one
and I just chose the season, say we wanted to explore winter
across the frozen lake or something along those lines.
But you can't.
What you get is what you get and you're stuck with it for seven days.
And I'm wondering if there's a preference over other seasons,
if that's going to reduce player count during a season
and that isn't favored over another one.
For example, I predict that winter is going to be the least played season.
I think a lot of people are going to hop over to a different game,
hop on Master Chief Collection and just kill the time with that seven days
and then go back to Forza once summer, autumn or spring is around.
This isn't that big of a deal, but I do see the player count going down
if we don't have the free to play choice.
It is cool that there's different challenges and such during each season.
So that definitely mixes it up.
Number three is the wheel spins.
Playing Forza Horizon four's wheel spins is pretty much like
going to the Las Vegas Strip and expecting to win something.
It doesn't happen.
The house always wins unless you're a card counter like 21.
You ain't going to get any good wheel spins.
And this is mostly connected to the character customization.
Now, I think it's very cool that there's character customization,
but I would have preferred it if we used in game credits
to buy clothing and buy character customization,
not through microtransactions, but using in game currency to get this stuff.
If we really wanted it.
I mean, look at this wheel spin, guys.
I just can't wait to win those trousers.
That's exactly what I want to win.
And every time you get close to a good prize, it feels like you're going in.
And I missed it.
Awesome. It's just what I wanted.
I've noticed a lot of the times I win female clothes for a guy character.
I know they're not connected in any way in the game,
but I don't want to skirt if I'm using a guy.
I feel like the wheel spin should be connected to male or female in some way.
That way we don't get unnecessary clothing wins.
But the wheel spin does not feel satisfying compared to Forza Horizon three.
If I get a wheel spin, I click on it and I legitimately think
I'm going to get some stupid piece of clothing I didn't want,
especially when you get like shoes.
You're like, that's that's totally what I want to do.
I just wanted those so bad.
Number four is the glitches and car sounds.
The car sounds are a big debate of Forza Horizon four.
Not all cars kind of sound like their real life counterparts,
which is a problem.
A lot of the time, samples are used for multiple cars and multiple different
engines.
I understand they have this ginormous list of cars
that they have given to us in this game.
Going back to the Toyota Mitsubishi Comet, I'm not going to say
that I'm not thankful for the amount of cars that are in this game.
I mean, the selection is just frickin awesome.
A big one is the RB26 in the skyline.
I mean, listen to the RB26 in Forza Horizon one.
This thing sounded wicked.
It sounded convincing, right?
It sounded like you fully built a screaming 10,000 RPM RB26
crazy engine when you build the RB26 in this game.
It doesn't make as much power, one and two.
It just doesn't sound that violent.
It doesn't sound like a screaming in line six.
However, if you drive a big single turbo RB26,
it's really not that wild unless you fully build it and put cams in it.
Here's an example of me driving an R33 Skyline, and here's a sound
comparison test.
It's really not too far off.
I'm lucky to drive a lot of these cars in real life,
so I can kind of tell that it was similar.
But, you know, we're in a game world.
We kind of want things a little bit more exaggerated, and I understand that.
So car sounds could be a little bit more amped up and a little bit
more exciting, in my opinion.
Another perfect example of this is the Hondas in the game.
Now, I'm not saying everybody needs to love Hondas, but for crying out loud,
the K-Swap in this game sounds so annoying to the point
I don't even want to drive this car because of the sound alone.
And that's a problem.
If I'm going to do a top speed run with this car,
I'm just going to hate it, make my ears bleed.
They got the sound right of the K-Series really good in Horizon 3,
and it sounded like a rowdy, fully built four banger with a turbo.
And that's what sounded cool.
This sounds like a legitimate fart can or a weed whacker.
And that's just sad.
Next is kind of a bonus things on the list.
So it's not really part of the main list,
but I'm going to have a big focus on the drag racing.
I think the drag strips are mediocre in this game.
The reason I say this is that having a big, giant runway
and all the other Horizon games was really handy for tuning top speed in cars.
And also your drag races could be like real life half mile events.
These stop very abruptly.
And also the runway that's for the main high speed drag racing is bumpy.
They made it an old, old airstrip, which is cool for the environment.
But I wish they had like a freshly paved one as well.
So if you wanted to have like a bumpy one that made it kind of challenging,
that would have been great, along with a smooth, longer runway.
But none of the drag strips have any runoff at all,
and it's difficult to turn around when you're going with drag
slicks into the grass and then you turn around
and it seems like a chore to race again.
All the other games, you had enough braking and runoff
space to run again and turn around.
You'd kind of race on the way back.
Also, the tree on the drag strip
is not synchronized to the other driver online, which is a huge bummer.
I've had countless times where I've lined up to people online
and they launch before me or I launch before them by maybe 10 seconds.
It's completely out of sync when I don't want to hear it by saying,
oh, it's server issues when the trees at the festival are synchronized.
So I have no idea why the one at the airstrip
is not synchronized with the online servers when traffic is synchronized
and everything else is synchronized.
If you can synchronize an entire season with in-game players
up to 70 players, I don't want to hear a dude sink the tree
so we can have true drag races there.
That way, we don't have to count it down over the microphone
like in Horizon one or do the three honk technique.
Sure, you could always drag race on the highway,
but then you have to deal with traffic and that can be a huge pain in the butt.
And I just do not understand why the longest drag strip is on the beach.
High speed runs have been done on salt flats and beaches
since cars were made.
A lot of people had done top speed runs back then,
but that's because there wasn't enough pavement to top out a car back then.
They had to do it on a beach or the salt flats
because that was the only place they could do it.
Now, people do top speed runs on pavement or even in Nevada
where Koenigsegg did 280 something miles an hour.
My point is, is that it's so promising in Horizon four
for the drag racing, having the tree, having the lights, having stages
and everybody launching at once is so cool.
But then you don't even want to finish the race to full tilt
because you run off into the grass and you struggle to get back.
Number five is the progression and skill set.
So back in Horizon three, you would individually improve your perks
using skill points, usually when you're leveling up
or doing really cool skills and doing all that.
However, with this, you have to individually use your skill points
to improve one car at a time.
Now, I understand what they're going for.
That way, there's a lot more room to improve and every car feels special.
You feel like you're working towards a goal, but it makes you grind way more.
And I feel like if you just had the same skill tree as Horizon three,
it would have benefited from it.
That way, you can just get all those skills out of the way
and really enjoy the game.
Side note, when it comes to special skills in the game,
it is incredibly unclear that you have to buy a manor
in order to fast travel all over the map.
I think that's kind of silly because now teleportation of changing
your car doesn't have a fee anymore, which is nice.
But then you have to get all the fast travel boards plus buying a manor
just to fast travel over this giant map.
It's great driving to your destination.
I love it when you're in a convoy and a cruise with all your friends.
I think it's fantastic.
But it's so nice to fast travel in this game because you can get things done.
But the fact that I had to pay two million credits just to fast
travel anywhere in the map is a drag.
I'm not a fan.
Also connected to that is buying the houses.
Buying the houses seems like it'd be super cool at first,
but you can't go inside.
They don't really serve a purpose other than getting perks.
Like I just mentioned, you can't even see inside the place.
It's kind of one of those things where you're like, wow, look, dude,
I bought this really cool house. Too bad we can't use it.
I know it's a stretch for a Forza game to have a third person character
walk around a house, but hey, it would have been a nice touch
and it would have been kind of cool to see something different.
Kind of like that Grand Theft Auto vibe where you can buy a house
and go inside and invite your friends in. That would have been neat.
They can animate stupid freaking emotes.
Then they can animate somebody to walk around a house and remodel the house
inside.
But it doesn't feel worth it to buy any of the properties,
especially if they don't have any perks whatsoever.
Anyways, guys, that's my list of nitpicky things I'm not a fan of in Horizon 4.
Also, what advice would you give turn 10 if you could see them face to face?
What would you tell them to improve?
And are you going to keep playing this game?
I'm super curious to see if you'd like to join my Horizon Club.
It's called That Dude in Blue.
And hopefully I see you guys online.
I upload every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
And I hope you all have a wonderful day.
See you next time.
