Top 10 Things to SEE in Bali
Top 10 places to see in Bali.
Three, two, one.
Ready?
Yes.
Okay.
Wow!
Oh, no.
Excellent.
Yeah, excellent.
Now, keep in mind, we haven't seen everywhere in Bali, but we've seen a lot of the south
and a couple of other spots, and so these are our top 10 picks.
Denpasar.
Odds are you will see Denpasar whether you want to or not.
It is the capital city of Bali.
It is pretty much the gateway to the entire island right near the airport.
So, as you come in, pretty much have to go through Denpasar to get to maybe 90% of the
rest of the island.
You'll likely get in it one way or another.
We are officially a millionaire.
Uluwatu.
Uluwatu is a little peninsula at the bottom of the island of Bali.
Typically, where you land is in the airport, which is right the thin strip between this
little peninsula.
You go up, you got all of Bali.
You go down, you got this little southern tip.
That southern tip overall is called Uluwatu.
So, Uluwatu is most famous for its cliffs.
The cliffs are typically these giant, beautiful, picturesque valleys that end in cliffs over
the ocean.
Often, there's a little beach by the ocean, and it's kind of very rocky type of areas.
There are areas in Uluwatu that are specific to big surf.
I mean, that is where the biggest surf in Bali is.
When there's a big swell, Uluwatu is where a lot of the surfers go to.
It's world-class surfing.
Uluwatu is famous for a place called Billionaire's Row, which is where all of the nicest, biggest,
and most beautiful mansions are in Uluwatu.
We stayed in a place called Villa Latitude, which is voted the best pool villa in 2016
and 2017 all over the world.
It is super fancy, gorgeous, beautiful.
It is not the most busy or touristy area around the entire island, so you are able to sort
of get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet you're still close enough to
kind of all your amenities to get whatever you need.
Uluwatu is my personal favorite part of the entire island just because of how beautiful
and picturesque the cliffs and the beaches are, but that's just me.
Seminyak, just south of Canggu, you'll find a cute little beach resort area where you
will find a bunch of the nicer top-end resorts, but you're also going to find really cute
boutique hotels and also boutique shops.
It's a great place to go shopping if you are interested in that kind of stuff.
In Seminyak, you'll also find a place called La Favela.
Now, this is the place to be if you're a local as well as a backpacker.
The favela is a massive club, multi-floors, you know, every floor has got a different
thing going on.
It's a great place to get your boogie on.
Sanur
Sanur is a seaside village in the southeastern corner of Bali.
It is basically opposite of Kuta, both characteristically and in nuance.
It is an old fishing village and it is very laid back in nature.
Sanur also caters to an older crowd.
If I had to make a comparison, I would probably say it is the kind of people that you would
find on a cruise ship.
It can sort of just relax there.
There's a lot of cool stuff to see and do, but it's not as crazy, it's not as action
packed, it's not as wild.
Kuta.
We had to throw this in the mix, though it is not our top favorite.
It is definitely a popular hotspot.
So, what are you going to find in Kuta?
Well, A, you'll find a lot of Australians.
You'll also find some beautiful beaches and a ton of touristy, touristy shops.
If your plan is to link up with other travelers, maybe you're alone, maybe you just want to
expand your network of friends, get your butt to Kuta.
Another pro tip if you are ever in Kuta is to go to Waterbomb Bali.
This place is epic.
It's essentially a massive water park, but they do have some very, very cool slides and
features.
So, number one at Waterbomb Bali is the Flowrider.
This is awesome.
It's essentially like wakeboarding without a rope on water that goes forever.
The next thing that you got to do at Waterbomb is the drop slides.
Now, I'd never personally been on one before, but they're so cool.
You literally get into this dome shape, they close the door, you're standing almost straight
up, and then the floor, they push a launch button, the floor goes away from beneath your
feet and you slide down.
So, if you're in Bali, check out Waterbomb.
Karangasem.
So, this is the area that's located to the east of Bali, not fully to the east.
This is the island, and you're going east.
It's on the south pointing eastern part of the island, close to Padang Bay.
So, Padang Bay is where you will be taking a ferry or a boat from to go to Lembongan
or the Gillies or wherever else you might want to go.
Lembongan.
Lembongan from Padang Bay.
It's not built out to the same extent as maybe Uluwatu or Nusa Dua or Cenggu or Denpasar
or any of these kind of areas.
It's not as touristy.
It doesn't have as many shops, as many amenities, as many things.
However, if you are a scuba diver, this is the place for you to go because this is where
you're going to get to other places from.
There's a shipwreck you could explore there.
There's a lot of dive sites and shops specifically located in Karangasem.
If that is your vibe, if you want to play in the ocean, you want to explore the ocean,
you want to be around mountains, and you want to explore a volcano, it is a great area for
you to set up shop.
Just be aware that it's not going to have all the stores or the restaurants or the amenities
that you might encounter in maybe Ubud or other areas around Bali.
Definitely a must-see.
Cenggu.
Cenggu is probably my personal favorite place in all of Bali.
Our favorite place in Cenggu is Echo Beach.
We actually parked ourselves just a little bit north of there at a place called Raranan Beach.
So beautiful.
Every morning we'd wake up, chill on the boardwalk, have espressos and Americanos and a smoothie
bowl, which is cheap, cheap, cheap.
You can get a smoothie bowl for $4, $5.
This stuff is delicious.
It's also coastal and beautiful.
Boasts some of the most epic and beautiful surfing in all of Bali.
Bali.
It is a nomad, a traveler, a backpack hotspot.
So this is the place where you're going to find a ton of expats setting up shop.
It's also, since it is a nomad hub, it's a great place for these people to start setting
up their own businesses.
Alright boys, first round's on me.
Let's go.
Okay, you heard it here first.
Kenny's buying.
Ubud.
Ubud is located in basically what is the very center of the island of Bali.
Ubud is located in the middle of the rainforest and surrounded by rice paddies.
One of the most beautiful and epic places in Bali.
It's got this whole kind of like hippie, relaxing yoga vibe energy to it.
There's a lot of yoga retreats.
There's a lot of like silent retreats.
There's a lot of retreats in general.
There's also a lot of culture.
Some caves or some shrines.
Ubud is a good place for you to go.
It is also going to be a great starting point for you to explore the island from.
So definitely plan to spend at least a couple days in Ubud if you're traveling around the island.
If you're going to go to see a volcano or if you're going to go visit a waterfall,
Ubud is going to be the best place to go do that from.
There's a lot of food to try, a lot of culture.
It's a big hotspot for that kind of energy specifically.
Oh, this is great stuff.
This is great stuff.
The Gili Islands.
Now look, we know that the Gili Islands are not Bali,
but they are an absolute honorable mention because they are so cool.
Three small islands.
You got Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air.
Each quite different in how the tourist and the culture of them have been formulated.
Now look, Gili Ti, Gili Trawangan is all about party.
So if you want to get loose, you want to shake a boogie, hit this island up.
Also got some wicked little snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayak adventures that I would recommend.
Next to that is Gili Meno.
You can literally swim from one to the other.
I don't recommend it.
There's a strong current.
If you're not a good swimmer, don't do it.
Between these two islands, you're going to see underwater statues and a lot of cool stuff.
A lot of turtles.
That being said, Gili Meno does not have a lot of people on it.
So you'll only find a couple boutique little resorts or villas and a few restaurants
versus Trawangan, which you're looking at hundreds of stuff.
Last but not least is Gili Air.
Now this one's quite special, also known as Lover's Island, and it's the smallest of the three.
What's cute about it is you can bike around it in like 30 minutes.
It's also neat because it's not as loud, it's not as hot as Gili Trawangan,
so you're not going to get bombarded with party animals and people going all out every hour of the day.
That's the three Gilis.
We hope you enjoy all of them.
And that's it for the three Gilis.
Nusa Penida.
Now, Nusa Penida is not physically part of Bali.
It is an island just to the south of it.
However, it is part of the district of Bali, meaning that it's so close to Bali
that they pretty much consider it Bali.
The island itself is only about 200 square kilometers,
and the tourist infrastructure there is just not up to par as it is with the rest of Bali.
A lot of the roads there are absolutely beat to pieces,
and they're crumbling cement and jagged rocks.
A scooter ride that ought to take you maybe 20 minutes could take you more like 50
because you're going really slowly.
They're narrow roads, one lane pretty much to try to fit two cars.
However, it also has some of the most incredible views that I have personally seen in Bali.
In two months of Bali, my favorite spot was Nusa Penida.
Home of, like, viewpoints, beaches, scenery.
I did one cliff jump.
There was a bar right by the Blue Lagoon that,
it's literally like a cafe walking plank where you can just jump off a cliff into the waves,
and so naturally I wanted to do it.
They charged you, I think it was five bucks, every jump, and it was totally worth it.
Nusa Penida also has two other islands that are right beside that are even smaller.
Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, and those ones have their own sights to see.
For example, Blue Lagoon was not on Nusa Penida, that one was on Nusa Ceningan.
Really nice little spot to get away from the busy, crowded area of central Bali,
or like, you don't want to go back to Bali when you're there for a little while
because it's just, it's like a getaway.
It's a vacation from the rest of Bali, which is already a vacation from the rest of your life,
so go to Nusa Penida, you'll love it.
Okay.
Ah!
Unbelievable.
You go-getter.
