Where are they now? The kid who shut down an entire gym in a heated 1v1 against Julian Newman,
Jathan Bosch. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you must have lived under a rock these past
five years because these two going at it at an NEO Youth Elite camp absolutely took the media by
storm. At the time, Julian Newman was the most viral player in the world. So if someone was
willing to challenge him and the cameras were rolling, you better believe the video was gonna
do numbers. Especially when the kid challenging Julian held his own. During the entirety of the
showcase, Jathan was scoring on all three levels and finding a lot of success from behind the arc.
And then he got his moment to really shine, a matchup against Julian Newman. I wouldn't say
there was a clear winner in this exchange, Julian was definitely getting a lot of buckets of his own.
But this move by Jathan shut down the gym for a brief moment, so I'm gonna lean a little in
favor of him. The footage from this camp was posted all over YouTube and Instagram,
racking up millions upon millions of views. This one video in particular posted by City League
Hoops TV totaled 8.7 million views alone. And if you were really paying attention to these two guys
moving forward, you would know they faced off again at another NEO Youth camp the following
year. In the case of that showcase, there just weren't a lot of highlights from either Jathan
or Julian. Both of them couldn't stop fouling and it wasn't nearly as entertaining. Nothing
compared to that first legendary matchup. Despite the follow-up getting way less traction, the video
from that showcase still managed to bring in 3.6 million views, which really shows how invested
millions of fans were in this rivalry. After the final showcase the two played together in, Julian
continued to have all eyes on him throughout his high school career. I mean, this is a guy who had
a whole reality TV show and high school team centered around him before he could legally buy
a lottery scratch-off. Jathan's high school career, on the other hand, went in a completely different
direction. So I'm here to tell you everything that has happened to Jathan Bosch since his
matchup with Julian Newman. But before getting into that, let's start from the very beginning.
Jathan was born and raised in Manchester, a small city in New Hampshire. There is little
to no information about the earlier stages of Jathan's life, and this is most likely because
he was largely unknown up until he played in an MSH TV showcase in 2016. A lot of people don't
know this, but Jathan actually matched up against Julian for a good portion of this camp. And he
played extremely well, forcing a lot of turnovers out of Julian and getting a few buckets on him as
well. This MSH TV showcase was the origin of their rivalry and the biggest reason the two had
tension going into the NEO Youth Elite Camp. That's a little background on Jathan before he
blew up, so now let's get into what he's been up to since. He continued to play basketball in
Manchester up until the end of his sophomore year when he realized it wasn't a good fit for him
there at all. He said the coaches crushed his confidence, the city violence in Manchester
continued to rise, and he had real thoughts about quitting basketball. But Jathan did not quit on
his dreams. He moved to Florida with his older brother Justice to play for Downey Christian in
his last two years of high school, and to get away from the bad environment he was getting exposed to
in his hometown. Funny enough, Downey Christian High School was where Julian Newman went before
playing for Prodigy Prep. Can you imagine if these two guys ended up playing on the same team?
After all the beef is finally over, they reconcile to compete side by side in high school. Clearly
that didn't happen, but I can only imagine the amount of attention those games would get.
Anyways, the transition to Florida was not easy for the two Bosch brothers. They had a small
living situation, they only knew a few people in the area prior to moving, and Justice actually
had to drop out of school and work every single day to ensure they didn't have to move back home.
It may not have been an easy decision, but definitely was the right move for Jathan's
development. He was finally getting help from the right trainers, had a coach who built up his
confidence, not destroyed it, and he was able to go up against much better competition.
During his two years at Downey Christian, Jathan transformed into a crafty 6 foot point guard,
and it was obvious he was ready for the next level. He averaged 19 points and 6 assists in
his senior year, but taking a closer look at some highlights, it's obvious Jathan has an
unteachable feel for the game. He always seemed to make the right reads, was very vocal and a
leader whenever he was in the game, and he was an exceptional playmaker who you could count on to
find the open guy. Jathan graduated from Downey Christian in 2021 and ended up going the JUCO
route, playing for Daytona State. He mentioned before his commitment that there were a few
Division 1 colleges that showed real interest in him, but I guess they never followed through,
which led him to go the JUCO route. This past season at Daytona State, Jathan played in 23
of the Falcons 30 games, averaging 4 points in 12 minutes per game. A pretty underwhelming first
year of college for Jathan, but that's likely going to change once he receives a bigger role
and more playing time. Which leads us to now. Jathan is entering his second year of JUCO
basketball and I think he will be playing for the Albany Tech Titans this upcoming season.
To my understanding, there hasn't been anything posted in regard to where he will be playing,
but he responded to a tweet put out by Albany Tech's head coach saying can't wait for the
season. I did look at the current roster on their team website and didn't see him, so who knows.
While I might be uncertain where he will end up, I am positive Jathan is continuing with college
basketball. I really believe that Jathan has the skill, mindset, and devotion to basketball to
make it to the Division 1 level. He is someone that has an unteachable work ethic and desire
to make it to that next stage and I'm expecting a big second season out of him in JUCO.
