You got your mama's face?
So a lot of people ask why does she lick them like that.
The reason is because for them it is a form of endearment.
For example, when puppies are born they cannot go to the bathroom themselves, so their mom
has to lick them.
Because the mom licks them, that's what enables them to go to the bathroom and so they associate
that with a form of love.
No different than whenever your mom holds you and burps you when you're a baby and maybe
they bounce you or they pat you on the back.
All of those little things that parents do for their children become forms of affection
later on.
So that's why she's licking and what she's doing by doing that is she's teaching the
puppy, okay be respectful, this is how we play, and she's also in doing that giving
signs of affection so as to show the puppy, look, this isn't serious, I love you, you
are my baby, but I'm still going to mess with you a bit.
And anybody who has kids kind of knows that play is the way that you kind of learn to
explore and be in the world and play is very important for all social animals.
It doesn't matter what kind of animal it is, it's very very important when you are going
to be interacting with members of your own species.
So it's important for them to learn how to behave.
And so you'll see she's licking her, she's giving her love and so it's not meant to beat
the puppy up, she's not being mean, she's just kind of molding her into a good dog.
And that isn't always what you think it is, it's not just kisses and cuddling, it's play
and it's roughhousing and it's pushing limitations and boundaries and seeing what the puppy will
put up with so that she and he can learn to have self-control and to not overreact.
These are the kinds of lessons that, for example, if this dog goes to the dog park later on
and she gets pestered by a dog, she's going to be less inclined to attack or overreact
than say another dog who's never had anybody kind of push their buttons like their mom
is right now.
So that's why she's doing that.
She's showing them their place as well, they're not leaders.
Hey!
Thor, don't you be eating on the house!
And so they're all learning.
And as you see, once that puppy stopped fighting, Cashmer stopped pushing.
That's the way it works.
When you do what you're supposed to do, she relieves the pressure.
If you sass her, if you get an attitude, if you growl, if you go and, you know, start
mouthing off, then you'll be disciplined.
And that's just the way it works.
And it should be the way it is with humans and their dogs, you know.
If people were as clear in their instruction with their dogs as a mama dog is with their
pups, we wouldn't have a lot of the problems that we have.
But so often people confuse being a good dog owner with just being loving.
And that's not, it doesn't work that way, you know.
There has to be limitations, rules, boundaries, respect.
And those things, you know, they have to be just as important as the love aspect.
Otherwise, you end up with spoiled dogs, or spoiled children in the case of humans.
And it just, it does nobody any good.
It does the community no good, it does the dog no good, and ends up typically backfiring.
So it's really essential that you, you know, set very clear rules.
And when the dog does not listen, that there are consequences.
Doesn't mean you have to beat your dog or anything, as you can tell.
She's not beating them, you know.
She's not hurting them.
But she is making sure that they know that they need to do as they're told.
And what I do with my pups, which is the same thing that she does, is, come here, good puppy,
yes.
Good puppy, yes.
So what I'll do typically is I'll make her sit, and then I'll roll her over, I'll grab
this foot, and what I do is I take the foot here, psst, you see she kind of growled at
me?
There you go.
Now, boom.
Boom.
See?
Not a big deal, didn't take forever, as soon as she gives me what I want, I back off.
I take the pressure off of her, okay?
Even though she growled at me, you saw, I didn't give in, I didn't get mad, didn't try
to hurt her, I just did what her mama would do, put her down on her side, which for all
dogs is a communication of submission.
It's not something humans made up.
We are simply looking at what they do, how they communicate with each other, and communicating
with them in their own language, instead of trying to just force our human stuff on them.
You know, and as you can see, perfectly fine, she went down immediately, still a sweet dog,
you know, she's not a mean dog, she's not gonna bite anybody, you know, she's just tough.
There's nothing wrong with that, that's what we're, we're breeding tough dogs here.
Where's a good girl, where's a good girl, where's a good girl?
So anyway, just wanted to share, since we've had some questions, and some, some, you know,
those people that think they know everything about dogs, but they've never raised a pup,
you know, litter of puppies in their life, and they certainly don't have any experience
with this breed, it's not a common breed, and if you've never raised a litter of puppies
from Cane Corsos, then you don't know what to look for.
And there are other dogs that have, you know, you can look for Belgian Malinois, even some
pit bull videos of puppies, and they're tough too in their own right, but these guys are
tough in a different way.
And there's nothing wrong with that, but you just need to be prepared, and you need to
enjoy that, you need to not be freaked out by it.
If you are freaked out by these puppies growling, which really is just a puppy's way of verbalizing
that they don't like something, it's kind of like a toddler learning the, the word no,
and trying to tell you no all the time, it's really no different.
They just growl, it's not, it's not, doesn't mean they want to take your face off, and
as long as you don't take it personal, and you just, you know, you just take it in stride,
and don't take, you know, like I said, don't take it personal, and you just make them do
what they're told, it's not a big deal, and they don't grow up to be a danger.
Both Preacher, the father, and Kashmir growled at, Kashmir would growl at me every time I'd
pick her up when she's a puppy, and I just laughed, because, because it's, it's funny
to me that a little puppy thinks he can take me on, I like that, but, you know, she learned
her manners, now she's fine, Preacher, same thing, he used to growl every time we tried
to move him off something, he'd growl over his food, whatever, we worked with it all,
and now it's not a problem anymore.
So, you know, you just gotta work with your dogs, and, you know, and, and look at it for
what it is, which is canine body language and behavior.
It's not rocket science.
Don't try to make them into humans, they're not humans.
Alright y'all, this is my girl Midnight, y'all have a good day, ticka ticka ticka ticka!
