Ethan here with Standing Stone Kennels and we've got Miss Mud who
got into her first ever porcupine. So we're going to help her out. I'm going to
show you a couple different things that we need to work through with this.
First of all we want to make sure and kind of evaluate where she's got
quills. We do have one in her tongue. We've got a couple in her mouth here
and I'm going to try and get these out first
to kind of help reduce her pain and stuff. But ideally
we'll be able to pull each one of these quills out making sure that when we get
them out there are no portions broke off. So each
quill comes out in its entirety. Then once we get finished
up here we will run into the vet just to make sure that we've got everything and
have them do a double check for us. We've got one in her tongue and I think
that one's probably one of the ones that's bothering her the most right now.
So I can get these in here. We'll get this one out
and then she'll feel a little better. Easy baby. I can get a hold of it. Stop
baby. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Come on. Stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
Need another hand. Not yet. I know, I know, I know, I know.
It's definitely that one that's bothering her quite a bit.
Yeah. I have a few. She just needs to relax.
So down up here that I can get a hold of.
Stop. Stop baby. I need some help holding Scott.
Go ahead and do this here and lay her down on the table. Okay. Get these out of her gum line.
Here's another one. There's two that are completely intact.
We've got one that's kind of broken in here. I know baby.
Got that one. We've got one in her tongue. We need to try and get that one out here.
Some of these quills are poking all the way through her gum into the inside of
her mouth, which I know is not comfortable. That one
we got out of her tongue. All right, let's go with these on the
outside. Good. Good girl. Grabbing, making sure to
grab as close as I can to the base. I'm making sure that each quill is coming
out pretty deep.
Good girl. Almost done, babe. All of that one.
Yeah, she's probably getting a little more sensitive as we go too.
Good girl. Broke off here.
Good. Good.
As we finish this up, we're going to do a really good check over on her.
It's important to keep an eye, especially over the next couple days,
because they will continue to work their way out if there are any extra little
ones or anything that broke off. We'll look here on the outside. Also,
if you feel, sometimes some will get slid all the way underneath of her skin
and you won't even be able to see them. I'm not feeling
anything additional in here. This is actually a pretty mild
all the way around hit with a porcupine. So, look in her mouth. Definitely got all
of those out of her tongue. You don't see anything else under her
tongue. Don't feel anything else in her tongue.
Feeling these lips here. Sometimes they can work their way
underneath and you won't even see them on the outside, but
you'll be able to feel that there's something in there.
I think we've got them all for now. We'll get her in and get her checked by the
vet just to make sure. That is the excitements of hunting in
South Dakota.
