If you would have asked me in 2010 if I would have ever seen an all-electric pickup truck,
let alone an all-electric Toyota Tacoma, I would have thought it was sci-fi fantasy.
But as we've seen over the last 10 years, this tech is not only here to stay,
but it's becoming increasingly more popular than almost any other type of cars being produced.
Toyota Tacomas have been a fan favorite in the midsize truck and off-road truck community for
many years now. Back with the bulletproof 22RE engine, the Toyota Tacoma has been killing it
in the midsize truck game since the mid-90s. The brand has brought significant improvements
to the electric vehicles on the road and has invested a lot of time and money in the research
and development of its electric version of the Tacoma to ensure that the new car is as comfortable,
safe, and functional as possible. This all-time favorite pickup truck hitting the market as an EV
is surely to disrupt the EV truck market, which means great things are ahead and you might start
to see these when driving on your local roads. Although we still haven't seen that darn Tesla
Cybertruck anywhere, the 2024 Tacoma electric vehicle is expected to be available only in a
four-door crew cab shortbed configuration. You should plan on dropping at least, if not more,
than $50,000. And let's be honest, have you been truck shopping lately? It's not easy to get into
a truck for less than $50,000, so an all-electric version will likely be far beyond that, as much as
we hate to admit it. With all the buzz surrounding this new electric segment, or niche if you may,
various brands are working tirelessly to create the next golden product.
Based on what we've seen by the images shared by Toyota, this all-electric Tacoma looks to be
taking a more modest size, sizing between a full-size rig and a mid-size gas Tacoma.
To give you a clearer picture of the truck's size, the brand used a small SUV for comparison,
so all in all, it's large, but not by much, at least not like a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado.
The upcoming 2024 Tacoma electric vehicle will likely share its exterior and interior in terms
of styling and features with the next-generation Toyota Tacoma, which is already in the works and
will debut for the 2023 model year. At the front, it features a Tundra-inspired front end,
particularly in the headlights, which are sharper and come with vertical extensions
and horizontal LED fog light bars. In spite of the shared features, Toyota will throw in
some extra design cues to differentiate its new Toyota EV in a flashy and sophisticated
style from many other trucks in production. To widen the difference gap, the new EV will
come with new features such as a more aerodynamic grille and sleeker wheels,
as well as a digitized cluster gauge and electric vehicle-specific screens in the infotainment
system. At the moment, the Tacoma is expected to offer a driving range that starts from 200 miles,
and we assume a towing capability that will be similar or greater than the gas-powered vehicles.
The EV should, like always, deliver a good off-road drive thanks to its huge off-road tires,
a new rear suspension, and a lot of ground clearance. But it doesn't stop there. Toyota's
announcing plans to launch 15 new purely electric vehicles by 2025 and up to 30 units by 2030,
so there's definitely a lot to look forward to. Although at this point, it's hard to pinpoint
an exact release date of the electric Tacoma or what the final version will even look like.
So, if we had to guess based on these images, it looks production-ready,
so it might come sooner than you think. And if it does, you'll hear it here first.
