What's up everybody? I hope that you're all having a wonderful day.
If you're new here, my name is Jonathan Yent and I make videos on minimalism,
simple living, and outdoor adventuring. So if any of those things interest you,
you might want to consider subscribing so you don't miss any of my latest videos.
Today we're going to be taking a look at my minimalist bedroom.
Chances are if you've stumbled across this video,
you're already kind of familiar with the basic underlying principles of minimalism
and how that in turn has an effect on our bedrooms, our living rooms, our apartments,
or the spaces that we choose to occupy in general.
And those principles are a decrease in the excess clutter to eliminate all distractions
so you could really focus your energy on the things that truly matter.
And an overall increased sense of intentionality
with the way that you have your room laid out and the systems that you kind of have
intact to allow you to get the things that you need done, done.
Now I would just like to quickly add that
I actually very recently moved into this apartment and I moved from another state.
So that being said, my finances weren't exactly where I wanted them to be.
So I tried to keep costs at a minimum when designing my room.
Most of the furniture, actually pretty much all of the furniture that I have,
the few pieces that I do have that is,
I did buy secondhand from places like Craigslist or the Facebook marketplace.
So I know a lot of the room tours and apartment tours that you guys might already have watched
probably have some really aesthetically pleasing high quality furniture.
That's not the case in my room.
I guess you could even call this a minimalist budget room.
I do want to show you guys that with a little bit of hard work and research
and just putting in enough time and effort into finding the right pieces of furniture,
you could still very well design a room or an apartment to your own taste.
It just is going to require a little bit more work.
Before I ramble on any longer, let's just,
let's just go into my room and I'll show you guys around.
So first of all, let's have a look at my bed.
Like any true minimalist, I've decided that a bed frame is unnecessary
and thus my mattress is directly on the ground.
I don't find the comfort to be compromised, so this works perfectly fine for me.
Not to mention, I didn't have to spend money on a frame.
So like I said, I was really trying to keep costs down
as far as buying furniture and stuff like that.
And when I moved here, luckily my sister, who is my roommate,
had a friend who had an extra mattress.
So I just took that one and I've been using it ever since.
I'll probably get a new one at some point, but for now it does the job.
Now moving on to my desk space.
I do all of my work from here,
so I made sure that it's set up in a way that's conducive to my productivity.
I like to face the window so I can look outside for inspiration.
On top of my desk lives a few key items.
My 15-inch MacBook Pro,
an external hard drive for storing files,
a mouse and mouse pad for efficient editing,
and a small notepad for jotting down quick notes.
So I actually got this desk on the Facebook marketplace.
It was a really reasonable price
and I was searching for a couple days
before I found something that I thought would suit my needs.
In the past, I wouldn't really have considered the kind of drawer setup desk,
but I think it actually turned out for the best
because I do find that I use the drawers all the time
and they are really useful for kind of organizing your stuff
that would otherwise not have a designated spot.
Okay, so I've said this in the past and I will say it again,
I absolutely hate this hideous chair.
I mean, it looks like something that you would get straight
out of your grandma's bedroom or something,
but it was free.
I actually found it in the downstairs basement storage area
that's certainly not minimalist at all.
And in fact, I would consider it anti-minimalist.
So until I have a little bit more money saved up
and a little bit more financial freedom,
it's gonna have to do for now.
Sorry.
And the part of my room that has the most character,
my shelves.
I really love plants because they bring life into a room.
And, well, they just look great.
Also, I have a lot of plants in my room.
So for those of you who weren't aware that I shoot film photography
or photography in general for that matter,
and you're interested in checking that out,
you would go ahead and find me on Instagram.
I'll leave my handles down below in the description.
Okay, bye.
And a collection of some of my favorite books.
I really enjoy tangible items,
especially when it comes to books.
So I also got this very, very, very beautiful nightstand on,
I think it was the Facebook Marketplace,
and I got it for like 15 bucks.
And this is a West Elm piece of furniture.
So, you know, on their actual website,
it's probably quite a bit more than that.
So that just goes to show,
you find a lot of gems on these sites like Craigslist
and Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp and whatever.
So don't rule them out.
And finally, last but not least,
we have my closet.
Now I have a very particular system
of which helps me keep organized
as far as dirty clothes and used clothes
and so on and so forth.
I'll just show you guys in there.
Okay, and here we are in my closet.
I know, exciting, right?
So like I was talking about,
I am very systematic in the way
that I hang things up and keep track
of what has been worn
and what is ready to get thrown in the hamper.
First, I'll show you guys kind of
how my closet's organized.
I feel so lame making this segment of the video
because it's like, who cares?
But at the same time,
it might be kind of beneficial
or I don't know.
I'm just gonna show you anyway.
So over here on this side,
this is where I keep all of my daily t-shirts.
They're all just plain colored t-shirts
and the clean ones go right here
in this segment of the closet.
Right behind them over here,
I have things like some long sleeve shirts,
a sweater and just some miscellaneous
like running hoodie, I guess that'd be called.
So those go over there.
And over here, we have all my pants
and my kind of daily backpack
that I wear when I'm biking.
Over here, we have my dress shirts,
which I don't have that many
because let's be real now,
I'm not that fancy.
Up here, we have a pair of dress shoes
that again, I never wear
because I'm not that fancy.
And I have a little bag
with all my winter gear
that currently isn't being used anymore,
but it could potentially still be cold
in some of the places I go.
So I keep it accessible in the closet
for now at least.
And then up here, I have my bigger weekend bag
if I'm going on a trip
where I need to throw a bunch of stuff into a bag.
That's the one I typically use.
Up over there, I have my traveling suitcase.
It's just like a little carry-on
and it's perfect for trips
because I don't like to check baggage in
and it's good as a carry-on.
So the systematic method
that I was talking about
how I stay organized in here,
aside from everything being in its place,
is just, like I said,
these are clean t-shirts
and what I do is I'll wear one
and I think it's still,
as long as I'm not sweating profusely
and doing a lot of physical activity,
probably in the summer,
this might even change
because I'll just sweat more by nature.
But when I wear it once,
I essentially will take this off
and I will put it on a hanger
and I hang it over here
on this side of the closet
just so I know that the shirt
was worn once already
and after I wear it one more time,
I'll typically just throw it into the hamper.
This works for me.
It might not work for you.
You might think that's absolutely gross
that I wear shirts a couple times,
but whatever.
I don't think I sweat that much
and I don't think I smell.
So it works for me
and this is just an example
of one of those little things
that you kind of implement into your room
and your life to keep things
a little bit more efficient
so you can focus on
other more important things.
Okay, I'm gonna get out of the closet now.
Okay, bye.
So that's pretty much everything, guys.
As you can see,
there's nothing really fancy about my bedroom.
I got everything used
through sites like Facebook and Craigslist
and thus it was extremely budget-friendly.
That just goes to show that you can
and it is possible
to design your room to your liking
for a low budget
as long as you're willing to put in
a little bit of effort and time.
Thank you guys, like always, for watching.
