Hey, welcome back to the channel.
I'm Justin B. McBride.
And today I was out here filming
my Peter McKinnon backpack video,
and I wanted to take a different route home.
So I found a route on Gaia, stuck to the trail,
and then it started to get a little moist out here.
And as I started to get deeper and deeper into these ruts,
I stopped.
And when I stopped, it just sucked me in.
So I have been sucked into this quicksand scenario
of really, really wet, dense mud
that just suction cups you down in.
And I'm waiting on a buddy to get out here.
But I figured I'd make a short vlog or something of it
because I feel stupid.
You know, sometimes we get ourselves in scenarios
where this happens.
The good news is I sensed it was happening,
I hit the brakes, so I didn't try and drive.
I turned off the engine, right?
The only thing I've tried to do is get out with Max Trax.
And again, the pressure of the water and the mud
sucking the Jeep in is too much.
So I've got to wait for a buddy to get out here.
We're probably gonna connect a kinetic rope or something.
What's so stupid is right over there is dry land.
What really sucks is my buddy's like an hour away.
It's Adam from Trail Racks,
but he has like a Gladiator on 37s and stuff.
Right now I'm walking away from Cool Rick onto dry land
because my rescue is here.
However, he just got bogged.
So I'm gonna get over to Adam.
We're gonna work on getting him un-bogged
and hopefully I can find a dry route
for him to get over here.
What a night, guys.
This is gonna be fun, fun, fun.
This is adventure.
Oh, shirt.
That's so boggy.
Oh no, I don't know if I can get over there
without going like super far out.
Oh no.
This is like, this is quicksand.
All right, I'm gonna try going north then
because south, that's not happening.
Holy cow, this is bad.
Oh, I'm so dumb.
Feeling so stupid.
Well, I've already ruined my shoes.
So rather than going through that quicksand,
I'm going across these tire tracks
and staying in the center of the two track.
And I think I'm almost onto dry stuff.
Yeah, lookie, that's Adam, way out there.
This stuff sucks.
I swear at this point, he's just getting further away.
And this makes me realize
there's no way I could have passed this.
There's no way he's gonna pass it.
We're gonna have to get him unstuck,
get back on the highway
and come around the way that I got stuck
because that's the only dry way in.
There's no way to get through this.
Oh, what a hike.
Beat.
Hey, I'm back in the Jeep
because I walked all the way to Adam when he got stuck.
And the walk, he's a mile away and it's a marsh.
So crossing that,
like there are some very Frodo, Samwise, Gollum vibes
as I cross the marsh.
And yeah, he's stuck all the way down to both axles,
really, really bad.
And I don't know if we're gonna get him out tonight,
honestly.
But as for me,
I have reached out to the Utah Off-Road Recovery Team,
which I should have done when I first got stuck, honestly.
When I first couldn't get myself out,
that's what I should have done.
But here we are.
So I'm waiting for them to show up.
They should jump on the radio here soon
or at least send me another text.
The good news is we have cell service.
So I've been able to reach out to people
and kind of keep everything alive
and friends and family apprised.
So that's good news.
And obviously stay in contact with the recovery guys
as they're on their way here.
So just gonna sit and chill and wait for them.
We'll get me out and then we'll assess Adam's stuff.
This is a mess, guys.
I feel so stupid.
I really do.
And I'm sure anytime anybody gets stuck, they feel stupid,
but I should have known better.
I shouldn't even have touched it knowing it's wet
because out here it's the worst.
I see the Utah Off-Road Recovery Team out here all the time
in the wet stuff.
And I just looked at it.
I thought, oh, it's, you know, it's a late spring.
It'll be fine.
Woe is me for making a mistake.
So, yep.
Now we hurry up and wait.
Nothing to do but hang out.
Thanks for hanging out with me.
I mean, it's an uneventful video to this point.
After sitting for just another 45 minutes or so,
my radio started to light up with weak transmissions
as the rescue group was only a few miles out.
It wasn't long before I could spot the headlights
on the horizon, and then they had me hooked up
and ready to be winched free.
Yep.
Brake reversed.
Okay, release brake.
Yes.
Neutral, free it up.
Okay, driver two, you ready?
Yeah, I'm good.
Okay.
Neutral.
Okay, neutral.
I stopped filming here out of pure exhaustion,
but we were able to make it over to Adam
and get him recovered.
And it took way longer than we thought,
but we were finally on the road home for sunrise.
