Hey guys, my name is Nicole. Welcome back to my channel. So today I am upcycling
some of the glassware that I got in a recent thrift store haul.
It was quite possibly my ugliest thrift store haul I've ever purchased
and I got a lot of different things so I thought I would split up
the DIY videos, my upcycling videos, into two different sections. So today I'm
going to do all the glassware that I purchased which is everything you see
here and then for my next video I'll do the
other odds and ends that I purchased to upcycle for resale. So I have an
antique booth called Green Onion Vintage and the goal is to upcycle all of these,
sell these in my booth for a little bit of a profit. I'm not exactly sure
what colors I'm going to be using yet but I do know that some of these need
primed first so I'm just going to start there.
Let me share everything really quickly. This was a gigantic hideous
pitcher for six dollars but I paid three dollars because it was half off that day.
This is another pitcher. It has like a basket weave texture to it.
I paid three dollars for this one. This is a pink pitcher. I paid two dollars.
It's like a light pink and I might actually paint it pink again.
I just want to take kind of the shine away but I'll figure that out later.
This canister set was six dollars. It's a really dated dark blue.
I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with those yet but I'm sure they're
going to turn out great. I got this little glass vase. I kind of
like that it resembled like the shape of an old milk bottle.
Don't know what I'm going to do with that yet but I'm sure the inspiration is
coming and then I got this tiny little crock colored
canister with a lid. I paid a dollar for this.
I didn't tell you I paid a dollar or two dollars for this little jar.
So right now I am painting the big pitcher.
Just an old chalk paint that I found in my basement. It's in the color latte and
I thought it'd be nice to use up for this project because
it's kind of like an old crockery color. I like that it wasn't super bright white
and I think with the white wax at the end it's going to look really pretty
and I just like that it's a chalk paint so it's going to stay nice and matte
and not require a lot of prep work even though I did prime this just in case you
saw me do that with the slick stick from Dixie Bell.
Now for the added character for this piece I'm going to be making my
own faux decal using the Iron Orchid Design air dry clay. This clay is so easy
to work with. I'm really really enjoying been doing
projects with this for several different crafts.
So what I'm going to be doing right now is making this clay nice and thin
and then you see that stamp there that's also from Iron Orchid Designs. It's a
crockery stamp and I'm going to use that stamp to make
like a faux crockery label basically. So you're going to see me
push it in there really hard. I'm kind of using the rolling pin to make sure
that my font is going to be nice and clear
and then when I lay it back down I'm going to actually just cut right around
the stamp and eventually you will see me
glue that directly on to the picture and the final result is really cool.
I hadn't used this method before where I used the stamps
and the clay but it was actually super easy to do. I know it looks like kind of a
tedious process but it really was not bad at all. Like I said that clay
was really easy to work with so it was actually pretty fun to do it like this.
So right now I'm just figuring out the best placement for the picture
and once I kind of get that figured out I just use the Gorilla Glue
that you can get at Home Depot. I actually got like a three-pack at Sam's
once for a few dollars and I'm going to use the glue to make
sure that this clay really does adhere well. You can see my
three-year-old back there eating cereal. It's like his favorite food
of course. So I attach that on there and then once that's kind of dried quite a
bit, which only takes about a couple hours to
dry, I am just painting it the same color as the
rest of the picture right now and I let the paint dry for probably
about 30 minutes. You know chalk paint dries
pretty quickly and once that is dry I go back
over it with the Dixie Bell white wax and the white wax is what's
really going to make this come to life. So I go really heavy-handed on the white
wax and just apply a lot because I really want
to fill up all of the crevices of the stamp and
especially all of the lettering so that it just looks really nice and
nice and crisp and clean and I was so happy with the
result. This was definitely a bit of an experiment but
overall really happy and then I just go ahead with the white wax over the entire
body of the picture just to antique it a little bit more and
also give it a little durability. So this was a super fun project. If
you're new to crafting I think you could handle this
and you really would be amazed with your results.
Here's a final look at those three ceramic pictures.
I think they came out really beautiful. Taking the shine out and just
making the colors more subtle and neutral.
I think did a world of good for these pictures and really gave them a new life
and a place in a home in 2021. I think that they were pretty outdated and
now they look appropriate for the times.
Really complimentary to like today's style
and just really cute and rustic. I'm really enjoying kind of playing with the
white wax. It's something I've used before but just never
very much and never for smaller crafts. I really only use it on
furniture but I love how it picks up the details and it just makes everything
look older and antiqued.
Just gives things like a really authentic feel.
So this is how the basket weave turned out. It's so pretty now. I really
really like how it looks now. You can see how the white wax picked up the detail
on the handle too. So I love that I got to use up some of
my older paint and this color really ended up being
perfect for what I was envisioning. I don't think I showed you
this but I also got this at the Goodwill that I got these other
pictures at. I'm not going to do anything to it. I
really on trend. I just stuck a little topiary in there for now and then
a wreath at the base. Now these paperback books that you're seeing here those have
been like a new experiment for me and I really really enjoyed making those
this week. So basically this was a paperback book
that I tore the cover off of and then I'm getting these bike images
with these vintage bicycles from Cavallini Paper Company.
They sell these posters that are really beautiful.
I actually call them I think wrapping paper online but they're
so pretty. I've sold a lot of them in my booth as
a poster. I really can't imagine like just using them for gift wrap because
they're so beautiful. There's a ton of different options.
So maybe I'll find some Amazon links for you for those because
those posters have been really popular for me to sell in my booth especially if
I put it on a frame like this one over here in my kitchen.
I'll show you. So this is actually a magnetic frame
that you can change out the posters in and that's this is a Cavallini poster
right here. I love that vegetable one for my kitchen.
Swinging you back around. Let's stay on topic here.
This is how the pink picture turned out. I'm still not super comfortable with
selling pink. I just have never really tried it before.
I do think that it looks a lot more modern now that it's not shiny
and I just love like all the detail that the white wax gave it.
So I will try to sell this and see how it goes.
The pink is definitely an experiment for me but I think with like the soft
flamsier it looks really cute. And then I really love how this big
oversized picture turned out. I went really heavy on the white wax
for the label so that all of those words would turn
out really well. And I just look how like
clean and crisp the font came out. I'm really happy with it. I've never done
this before with the white wax. And then I did a
white wax just to finish all the way around. And that's going to
take a couple days to cure. It's still a little tacky.
And I will say that the Annie Sloan wax is a lot waxier than the Dixie Bell wax
and I prefer the Dixie Bell wax for sure. It has like a little bit more
of a color saturation but it also doesn't leave as much as a sheen. So the
Annie Sloan wax it just seemed to make it a little shinier.
It's hard to tell on camera but there's definitely like a sheen to this one
that this one does not have. And I only used Dixie Bell white wax
on this one whereas on this one I did Annie Sloan and Dixie Bell just because
I was trying to use up my Annie Sloan. So just a little product
comparison for you there. If you want to try Dixie Bell's products
we actually just started offering it online in our Etsy page. I'll
link that below. We're brand new to like that kind of
retail scene so we're still kind of working out the
kinks but I think that it'll be fun for us to sell paint as well.
Okay I feel like I've been working on these Crocs forever.
They are just kind of been a pain to paint which I kind of assume but I think
I also made a mistake in using that old kind of clunky paint
which is not going on very smooth. But I think I'm at a stopping point
with the paint for now. I'm going to go ahead and put my stencil on and then
when I white wax it at the end I think it'll
look really nice even though it's not like the most perfect finish
ever. I think they'll look pretty cool still.
When I do my stencil I always use the Waverly chalk paint and
ink if I'm trying to do a black stencil. This is from Walmart. It's probably about
10 bucks for this size but this lasts me a really long time
and I always use the Waverly for crafting especially for stenciling
because it's super thick so I don't typically have a lot of
problems with it running underneath my stencil.
Now I think I might have said that I was planning on using those crockery stamps
for these but I've actually changed my mind since I've already showed you how
to do the stamps in this video. I'm gonna do
these stencils that are also from Walmart. It was like a couple dollars for
a pack of alphabets and number stencils and they have a
bigger size and a smaller size on each sheet.
And I just wanted to do this so that if you don't have those crockery stamps
you still have like an option to make a really cool farmhouse set of crocks
without spending the 20 some dollars on that
set of stamps. So this is just another option for you
for a couple of dollars. I guarantee these are going to turn out super cute
too and you haven't spent quite so much
money on supplies. So I'm going to go ahead and
stencil these guys and then white wax them.
For this guy I think I'm going to paint him my new Dixie Belle color drop cloth
which is like an off-white and I'm going to put just a bunch of
twine around the top of it and I'm going to do a crockery stamp on this so you
guys can kind of see that effect and just put a couple stems in it and
this one will be done. Alright guys that's going to be it for
today's DIY upcycling video. I know I didn't give you a play-by-play of every
single step that I took and that's just because it was starting to take
forever for me to get everything done. So the little crock
um let me just grab it. I ended up doing like a faux paper label on this one.
I don't know that it's like amazing but it was definitely just like a little bit
of a trial. It's only focusing on me right now and
not on this. Can you really see it? I kind of aged the paper. So I don't know
this was an experiment. I think it looks pretty cool but
I don't know if it's like the best look ever. I think I could probably get this
paper off if I really worked at it and wanted to try something different
but I thought I would feature that for this video.
If you don't have the stamps you could also print off
um just a stamp picture off the internet onto white paper
and you would get a really similar effect and it might even be better that
way because you wouldn't have the risk of like bleeding of the
black paint which I had a little bit of trouble with but
that was an experiment. I think it's pretty cool um so I'm probably gonna
leave it like that and I mean the crocks turned out super
cute and farmhouse-y. I like the one two three.
All I did was wipe on the Dixie Bell white wax
and it's such a good wax because it's really saturated
but it doesn't have a lot of gloss that comes with it so I really have been
liking using the Dixie Bell white wax for a lot
of my crafts. It kind of brightened up the taupey color that I had accidentally
painted them and it gave more of a farmhouse look and
it also helped them be a little bit more durable so I think that they turned out
really cute. And then the last project that I have
here is this jar and I think this turned out
really nice actually. I do I'm having trouble like with the
black paint but I actually have an ink pad coming tomorrow from Amazon
um and if that ends up working out I will link that one for you guys so that
you can see if that works better for you than using
the black chalk paint. It's just it just didn't transfer like
super cleanly but it still looks nice and antique-y.
You saw me like wrap the twine around there and then this is just a little box
wood pick from Walmart for like a dollar. I distressed the
edges a little bit. Sometimes the paint was coming off and I was okay with that
and I also white waxed this so it should be pretty durable once it cures.
So nice and cute. I like this little piece of decor.
Super vintage-y. It's inspired um yeah all good. Okay guys I don't know
which video is going to come out first but you might have noticed that during
the process of me doing these DIYs that my hutch changed colors. Maybe not. You
might want to go back and see. My boys have spent the night with my
parents and so I have like all this time that I know I need to
be so productive so there's a few things that I was waiting to get done.
I got it all done while they were gone. Well not all of it but some of it
and this is one of those things. So I'm gonna have that video coming out really
soon of my process of painting that green and using the Dixie Bell paint
and then really soon I'm gonna have the second half of that ugly thrift haul
upcycle projects because this was just the glassware. I have many more things
that I got from that same Goodwill haul that I need to upcycle
and put into my antique booth and hopefully make some money. So that is the
plan. I'm trying to get a lot of this stuff done before the baby comes.
I'm like 34 and a half weeks right now and time is ticking. It just feels like
you know I'm getting down to the wire at this point. So I'm enjoying doing all
these projects but it is getting a little harder especially
with doing furniture at the same time. So just trying to get a lot done but I
will let you guys go there. I'm sure you guys are tired of watching me paint and
tired of hearing me talk about paint. So I will see you guys in the next video.
I appreciate you being here so much and supporting my channel.
I really, really do appreciate it and I hope you guys are having a great day.
I will see you next time. Bye!
