Woodworking & Xtool d1 Pro 20W laser review. Cutting Wood Diode Laser test
Wall Art Laser Machine
Making a cool epoxy woodworking project by testing and reviewing the Xtool D1 PRO laser that I received from Makeblock company.
This is a 100 % honest and accurate review of the D1 Pro 20W laser.

Hey everyone I was busy again with the shop and current projects. I'm glad that I finally managed to finish this video. I had covid again and I couldn't work. So glad that this is over.
Some time ago company MAKEBLOCK which produces the Xtool D1 PRO laser contacted me and asked for a video review. Since I already own a smaller laser I thought nothing of it and I said yes. Based on the pictures, I hoped it would be better than my old one. Oh boy did I was wrong. This is a diode laser but it has a power like co2 laser. I couldn't believe it. And the reason why is that this laser has 4 diode lasers stacked in one module focusing the light in one point. That is why it can cut 18mm thick larch wood in one pass!
Anyway, I demonstrate how useful this laser is and how well made. I thought about making a video comparison with my old laser but it doesn't come any near to this D1 pro. I am so glad that I have one.
In the future, ill make another video about xtool D1 Pro vs Atomstack 20w laser. That's correct I have them both. It will be interesting to see how they compete don't you agree?
In this video, I made a wall art-like project to surprise my sister. I used maple wood and epoxy resin. project is very simple and I think anyone with a will can replicate it.
It took me just 3 days to complete the project.
At the beginning of the video, I was engraving some stuff on my snowboard but I lost the footage somehow. I managed to engrave on the carbon fiber surface. I have another snowboard on the stand and I'll repeat the engraving in upcoming laser comparison video.
If you have any questions regarding the laser or today's project feel free to ask.
While back I said if I ever received any kind of offer I would accept only those whom I believe in and that can help my viewers, and I kept true to that. This is the only reason why I'm showing you this laser today. It's simple, it really is good!
Welcome back to Slovenia Woodworker Woodshop. Today I have a little bit different but
exciting video for you guys. In this video I'm gonna build something and I'm gonna show you
this new awesome toy that I got from company Mayblock. Before you skip forward hear me out.
I'm sure that once you're gonna see what this little laser can do and how powerful it is
I know you'll be amazed like I am. So give it a shot and watch the video.
I was a bit sick last day so my voice is a little bit stranger than usual
and I just hope you're gonna understand what I'm about to say.
This beautiful red and gold toy that I got is a X-Tool 20 watt D1 Pro laser.
First thing that I noticed was the build quality. This laser frame is very well made.
The laser module itself is running on the steel guides and same goes for the bottom axis.
Tightening of the belt is very straightforward. On each side there is adjustment screw which is
used for tightening and loosening the belt. This laser also has a built-in limit switches
which prevent laser module hitting the frame. All of the parts for the frame and electronics
were already pre-assembled. All I had to do is to put those four screws in on each corner
and few more on the top axis. It was really straightforward and very simple.
In front on the right side there are ports for the device and the power supply
with a power button switch and wi-fi antenna. Overall the frame and laser parts are very
well made and this laser is very robust. I won't go too technical with the specs,
data and graphs. There's plenty of videos on that subject already. Instead I'm gonna show you what
this laser can do. And here it is the main part of this laser. Actual 20 watt diode laser with air
assist. Having an air assist comes really handy especially when using laser for cutting because
it minimizes the charting or burning and helps keep the lens clean. This is a 12 millimeter
maple wood and this letter X was cut in one pass. Before I continue further I would like to mount
the laser on the MDF bed. And for that I don't need to buy dedicated fit for it. I simply took
the measurements and I opened the Creative Space software which you can download from
X-Tool official website and laser does the rest. And here I started cutting shapes for
today's project from the 12 millimeter thick maple wood. And I'm making a wall art type thing
which is fairly simple to make so every hobbyist can make one too. This will be a wall mirror
decoration for my sister. In the end of this video I will go to her pub and I will hang it on the
I made two exact frames for the epoxy pour and I will make a random honeycomb pattern.
With epoxy poured in and left to set and dry I returned back to laser to test it some more.
I thought it would be fun to cut out some letters so for that I used my own brand name.
And this is the same wood that I used before and it's a 12 millimeter thick
maple wood. And just look at it how cool is this. Nice clean cuts and it look great.
The next day I started with honeycomb and it just needs some finishing touches and sanding.
There were minor air pockets but that doesn't matter that much. Now I need to make a frame
for the mirror and I don't want it to be too distracting from the main pattern that is in
center of the mirror so I'm using maple wood for that frame too. While glue is drying I have
another cool gadget to show you. It is a rotary model for the laser. With this you can engrave
round shapes like cans, mugs or even baseball bats. I wasn't familiar with this thing before
so I was really impressed. The only problem that I have with this laser are connectors and mostly
because I have huge hands and connectors are very tiny for me. The rotary attachment is synchronized
with the laser model but before using it you need to insert few dimensions into the program.
And it looks like the X-Tool thought of everything because even the tape measure that I use now
it was provided with the rotary attachment. In the software you just insert the dimensions and choose
the type of a rotary model. Because this is like two in one it can be used as a roller or as a chuck.
For this testing I'm using a ordinary cheap ceramic mug. Back with the mirror frame. I'm cutting
slots on every corner so I can reinforce the corners with wooden inlays. This will make the
whole frame much stronger. And after some sanding it was almost ready. The honeycomb forms a split
pattern and I made them very lightweight because I will use only double-sided tape to glue them
onto the mirror. I went a bit crazy with double-sided tape and I put it much more than I actually need.
Or maybe considering that this will be hung on the my sister's pup that maybe isn't that bad
idea after all. Because we Slovenians are known to be thirsty people. Here I was moments away
from the ruining the whole thing. I pre-drilled holes too low and forgot that just under the
surface there is a mirror inserted into the wood. Putting these long screws in it will definitely
broke the mirror. Before I take this wall epoxy art to my sister let me show you another cool thing.
Let's say for example you wish to brand your work in a way. Now that I have this laser I can use
much better ways to do that. Just a few clicks in the software and laser does the rest. I say again
this is just a test but come on how cool is that? Or finding vector files online for almost everything
like for this geometric art. Here I'm cutting birch plywood which is 4.5 millimeter thick.
It can actually cut double that if I go slowly. It's just that the glue between the layers of
plywood is making cutting plywood much harder than actual wood. Considering that this laser
cost a fraction of the cost of a co2 laser with similar capabilities and that is so versatile
I think buying this laser is good investment. For me it will definitely come very handy because
I'm gonna use it to produce more products for my online store. Check out the comment section below
and let me know what you think about today's video and what you think about the laser that
I just showed you. Thank you all for watching.
