Hello, it's Becca, and welcome to The Carriage House,
a little place to find cozy inspiration
for your hearth and home.
I'm in our little farmhouse decorating
for Christmas and wintertime again,
and I'm actually in my living room this afternoon.
Very cold out.
But lots of red and white this year.
I just love those classic Christmas colors in the home.
And usually every year I tend to buy new pillows,
blankets, rugs even, because those are the ones
that get pretty run down by our kids and our pets.
And the pillows, especially over time,
we end up kind of recycling them,
and we end up putting them outside in our barn
and letting the barn cats snuggle up to
during the wintertime.
And I did buy a few other little things,
like candles, a few ornaments,
and of course I'll be using our treasured things
that we've been collecting over time.
So I'm really glad you're here with me today,
whether you're stopping by for the first time,
or you've been on this channel for a really long time,
which I so much appreciate.
I'm actually going to be doing a Christmas giveaway here
very, very soon.
So, but I'm just really excited about getting the home cozy,
just extra cozy for the holidays this year.
And also to let me know I either need to redo my roots
or go back to dark again.
So I was just curious to see what you think.
You can leave a comment if you like,
or you may not even care,
but I do need to make a decision
because my hair's getting pretty bad.
So just been so busy here with the new kittens
and homeschool,
and of course getting ready for the holidays and all.
So I'm gonna focus on getting the rugs and pillows
and throws on the couch first.
Maybe light a few candles,
put on a little movie maybe,
and then I'll decorate other parts of the room
and the tree, of course.
And I'll also be making lasagna tonight
in our Christmas kitchen.
So I hope you join me for that as well.

So after I cozied up the couch,
I came over to this little table
that I always decorate for each and every season.
And I put an old little church
that I've had for a very long time now on the table.
And I think I bought it at Cracker Barrel
when my husband and I lived in Phoenix a long time ago.
And it used to light up, but that part, it stopped working,
but I almost like it a little better this way.
Just very simple.
But I'm really drawn to golden tones this Christmas
for some reason.
It's just, it's really pretty.
It makes me think of Christmases from a long time ago.
So I'm about to decorate the tree.
Now, I do let my little ones pretty much take over
when it comes to decorating the tree,
so it's not glamorous by any means,
but I feel better when the kids get involved
in these little things.
So we're gonna do that and then make our way
into the kitchen to make a cozy winter's night dinner.

Now it's time to make dinner,
and tonight I'm making Barefoot Contessa's delicious lasagna
and I can leave the recipe down below.
Now, I used one of our frozen bags of roasted tomatoes
that we grew and harvested in our garden this summer.
So I don't have an exact recipe for this sauce.
I just added lots of savory goodness to it,
garlic and onion powder, a bit of Italian seasoning,
kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper,
and I let it simmer all day
and then I used an immersion blender
to make the sauce nice and smooth.
Now, the only thing I didn't have for this recipe tonight
was mozzarella, which is kind of a big deal in lasagna,
but I just ended up using something that we have,
so I used feta cheese,
which it turned out not too terribly bad.
Kind of like a little Greek twist to it.
But gonna finish preparing dinner
so that way my husband and I can get the kiddos to bed
and try to have a peaceful and relaxing evening.
