Good morning everyone! Welcome to Living It Country. I'm Holly and today we have a
beautiful, beautiful farmhouse that we get to share today.
And not only is it a farmhouse but it's a tiny, small
farmhouse that's also a DIY. So Arlene, my friend from Farmhouse 2020, is
sharing it here today. Her home that her and her husband built
together. So it's a super special home tour today. You
guys are gonna get so many ideas whether it's DIY,
thrifty finds, or styling. Arlene just has a spectacular
home and I'm just so honored to be sharing it here
today. So make sure you check out Arlene's
Instagram account in the links down below
because her account is filled with just so much inspiration. You guys are just
gonna want to follow her. Now a lot of you might not know that I
actually watch these home tours with you guys.
So when I have them go live, I've already watched them
but I actually enjoy them with you guys. Now the reason why I have the home tours
even on my YouTube channel is because I was looking for inspiration and
Instagram is like my main jam for inspiration as well as Pinterest.
And I wanted to see how other people style their homes and sometimes pictures
just don't do justice. So that's where I kind of got the idea
of the home tours and brought them to life. And so I just, I
watch these videos over and over. I always forward through my part but
I really enjoy watching these home tours with you all.
So I'm gonna go ahead and get my morning started before I watch with you guys
and let's go ahead and get started. Love starting off my Friday mornings with
some good farmhouse inspiration from the farmhouse home tour series and
today I'm starting off my morning with a McCafe coffee because I was
needing some extra energy today. It wasn't a
stress-free tea kind of morning. It was definitely a coffee morning
and I'm feeling the fall vibes with not only my cup of coffee but my
I love having candles going. It just gives me that cozy
farmhouse fall vibe and let me know in the comments down below if you're
feeling that too. Now I am so excited because this portion
of today's video is in partnership with Goalie.
I have shared Goalie many times before here and
I am a customer of Goalie and so I was so excited when they asked to partner
with me on today's video. Goalie is a apple
It gives me so much energy as a busy mom
and it's got all of the benefits of apple cider vinegar
and it's got appetite control, weight loss, lowers blood sugar levels,
improves the immune system, is enriched with vitamins,
infused with superfoods, and you guys it tastes like a gummy
starburst. It's actually so yummy that my kids
eat them. It is that good. Goalie was also kind enough to give you guys
a coupon code to save five percent off of your order
so make sure you guys check that out in the links down below
and stock up because one bottle is just not enough.
Hey sweet friends this is Arlene at Farmhouse 2020
and I'm so excited to show you guys my little cottage farmhouse.
I'm living a country. My husband and I built
our farmhouse all by ourselves and we used an open floor plan which
makes the room look a little bit bigger than it really is.
Our ceilings are nine foot high and they are beadboard and I painted the
beadboard white so it would look like a home that my
grandmother lived in when I was a little child. So how about
we start our tour over here in our kitchen. These
industrial light fixtures that we picked out are
from ebay and I wanted them white with the little touch of black trim
around it and as you can see they still have a little bit of rust on them
and all we really did was we picked out longer stems so that it would
come down far enough for our island that
we're going to put in later on and just rewire them.
I get so many compliments on this table. Right now we're using it as a temporary
island and believe it or not it was painted a
mahogany color and it was really dark and dreary
and so I wanted something more light and airy
and I love the legs on this table and the wooden pools
and so when I stripped it all down I got this beautiful wood look
that is perfect for my home and I wouldn't change anything about it.
Once in a while I like to switch up my home for the seasons
and so this week I thought it would be fun to
do this little whimsical centerpiece and really all it is
is it's a glass cake plate and I have put some
lamb's ear around the bottom of it. I placed a wooden tray with bead handles
and a slab of wood and I thought it would be fun
to do a little house in the center with our farmhouse 2020 and just placed a
glass globe over the top of it. It was simple, it was fun, anybody can do
that. This area over here by my door is a fun
area. I thought it would be cute to put some
ironstone platters at the top with a place to hang my apron
and my so that way it's easy to get in my bag when I go to the grocery
and then I found this cute little chippy chair
that I won't do anything to. I love it the way it is.
I love how the paint's peeling off of it and speaking of this little area next to
my sink, well we get a lot of questions about the
sink stand and this is something that me and my
husband built on our own and it's built out of barn wood
and the posts are six by six turn spindle posts and I just skirted it
with a canvas painter's canvas cloth that I
had bleached out and just folded it over and hung it up.
Now the sink itself is a high back apron sink
that a lady in Alabama had under her back porch and it had been under there
for 20 years and so we rescued it and we brought it
back home and we just cleaned it up and
refinished it and I think it turned out phenomenal.
We chose to go with open shelving in our home
just for the fact that I don't like to open and close cabinets so much
and I can display all of my collectibles
next to my stove to where I can just reach up and grab a plate
or if I need a sifter or measuring cups they're right there
where I can reach them and just use them when I need
them and my vent hood we get so many questions about and this is another
project that my husband and I did and it is out of reclaimed lumber from
Kentucky lumber and I didn't want to trim around it I
just like the sleek smooth look of it but look at the cracks in the wood
is that not amazing I love that look and so I went to Hobby Lobby the other
day and I found this sign that was on sale and it said eat and it
had the white kind of roughed up look and I thought it would go perfect there
on my shelves I have a lot of different things that I
display like these vintage ball jam jars
that are in my old board and cheese box I just think that is so adorable
and I have wooden spoons and I have a lot of my ironstone collection
with some really old silverware some vintage plates and a glass dome
and I love the height that the topiaries give
to my vent range hood that makes it just kind of stand out the
greenery and I like listening to music when I'm
cooking so I found this it's not a vintage radio
but it looks vintage so I just painted it up a light
I found these little jars at Hobby Lobby
and they kind of match my vintage ball jars
and I thought that would be really cool to put some
live plants in so I'm starting some more plants
in those jars and they look really good there
over on this side of my stove I have my new smeg mixer that I'm
happy and pleased with it's a new addition to my smeg collection
and I have a little piece up here I don't know if you guys can see it or
not but it's a little tile a white ceramic
tile that has a menu on it that my mother wrote
for a dinner that we had on Sunday and since my mom passed away this is
something that is so special to me I keep it in my
kitchen all the time reminds me of her and our dinners and I
just mod podged some glue on the tile
I laid her menu down and I just mod podged over it
and it turned out really good and I've had it that way for
several years now and I just love it I love my bone handle knife collection
and wood and at the top up here I just have a
little milk stool that has some of my
collections of ball jars on it the Louisville milk
bottle and some of my metal things that I use for when I'm cooking
and the grazing board I love the grazing board when we have
people over or dinners with our family we just
throw whatever on there and it's so easy for the kids and
my family to reach and and fix another thing that we get so so many
compliments on is our screen door we found this in an antique store
in Louisville Kentucky and my husband found it behind
a lot of items that were stored in this little area and when we seen it we
had to get it it's really really tall I just love the decoration and trim and
when we built our home I already knew that I wanted to have a
screen door for my pantry so we hung it on the barn door
sliding barn door hardware and I just love it it glides saves us space we
don't have to open and close doors and so over here because we have
chickens I thought it would be cute to put a
little chicken display with some of our real chicken eggs and
the little chippy stool we found in Madison Indiana what makes this unique
is it has rollers on it and I have several stools but none with
rollers on it like this so I already knew that I wanted
open shelving in my pantry and like I said I like to use my vintage
dishes I like to use my vintage ball jars they all have a purpose and in a
small home you have to have things with a purpose
and so in here is our little coffee area we come
down here in the mornings and make our coffee
in my jars of flour and sugar you can see I have my old vintage
cups and it's so much easier just to dip in with your cup
to measure something out when I cook I don't
measure things precisely a lot of the time
and I thought Holly might like the little sign I put in the corner over
here and I may keep that up for just a little
while in the little truck I have chalk so that
my grandkids can write on my chalkboard that you'll see here in a minute
but all of my jars I have specifically set out with things in it that
I need for myself because I'm diabetic and I have to have specific
things and they're easy to reach and grab a hold of
I like the whisk wicker baskets that I can place
like big items in to keep them kind of hidden
and over here on the side you can see the little chalkboard I was talking
about and I just think the trim around it is so
unique and it has these little scrolly patterns and
I just painted it up and stuck chalkboard
in it and my kids love to write on that so here we have another
little vintage stool and I put some crocheted socks on them so it
won't scratch my floor we found this old ladder it's a barn
ladder and we got it at a peddler's mall
thought it would be really cute next to my pantry since I'm short
and I have to reach things that are high up it's easy to grab
and just put in my pantry to get what I need off the top shelves
the apple basket I thought that was a cute thing me and my husband were at
a thrift store and I found it and I thought it would be so cool to put
like real fruit in it so that when my grandkids come over
they can just reach in there and grab something a snack
okay guys so this is one of the most talked about areas of my home
as you can see it has my vintage ball jars
and each one of them holds something that I cook with
and I don't just display them I use them on a daily basis
literally they hold my sugar and cream and pasta
and up here at the top over my niche I wanted a shelf to display some
ironstone I don't have a whole lot of ironstone
I'm just collecting some as I find it and I found this little fretwork
display and they were two pieces and I just put them together
and I just think it makes my little niche stand out so much better
so under my niche you can see a cream can
and this cream can has a story it sat in my mom's garage for many years
I remember as a child that my mom and dad built a home
and it didn't have running water in it for a while and
so my mom would put my sister in a wagon and my brother and I would hold
the cream can so it wouldn't fall out of the wagon and she would go to the
neighbor's house and we would walk pulling this wagon
and she would have a little visit with the neighbor and then
when it started to get dark we would walk back home
holding the cream can and so that was a memory that when I
seen the cream can I thought oh I have to tell that story
over here is another door that we picked up in Franklin, Tennessee
and I liked how it had all glass in the front
because beyond the door are spiral stairs that lead up to our master suite
and downstairs to our basement so all we basically
did is we just sanded down a little bit of
the chippy paint and left it as is
and it turned out beautifully now I'm so excited and
I wasn't asked to show this part but I'm going to give you guys a sneak peek
of my back porch and it's going to be a dreamy back porch
when it's finished we're painting it all white
my husband and I cut each and every rail
on this porch and you can see the little diamond shaped pattern in the center
and at the top we're going to put these these transoms
that are going to look like little windows and we're going to put a
metal roof on top of it this piece over here
is another find that I found at a thrift store
and you can see the little fretwork porch railing stuff over the top
of it we found that at a antique store in Bardstown, Kentucky and it holds
just a lot of my ironstone ware
and some vintage tablecloths that I have
and I like to just display different things
the bowl at the bottom holds some dishes that I found at a thrift store and we
use those on our front porch sometimes when we're having breakfast
and it's so easy just to take the bowl the whole bowl outside and set it on the
table and everybody can just get the pieces that they need
over here in the corner you can see I have another door
but this door is going to go in a laundry room down in my basement
someday I found it in Madison, Indiana and I just think it's adorable
I love the trim under it has a lip that comes out
with decorative trim under it and then I have a vintage basket
and it's full of Chanel blankets that I collect
from different places and it's just easy to reach over and grab something when
you need it to cover up with and then you have my little small area
where I sit it's our little couch and it's
got Chanel blankets all over it it's a comfortable place to sit
and relax so behind my sofa you'll see that we got a
old church door and it's chippy it was that way when we got it and then
I had a shelf that matched it pretty much perfectly
and so I decided I was going to put that shelf over top the church door
and it's holding my display of wooden shoelast
and I just took some greenery and just kind of
let it flow over top of the shelf and I also collect old church handles
so on the little corbels you can see that I have some old church
handles whenever I'm out and about and I see
one I just pick it up bring it home with me we recently found
this really cool industrial cart and it came out of a hardware
store in Louisville, Kentucky which makes it even more special because
we've heard of this place and you can tell that it's really worn
the corners are worn down and it's scruffed up on the top
and we just simply cut the handle down and it's a great place to put your
coffee in the mornings or prop your feet up in
the afternoon when you're really tired and then I just took a display of
farm houses and farmhouses that are ceramic with my little candles
and beads on a tray place some greenery atop it and
it's good to go our floors you may have heard that creek
it's a new home and it's already sounding old
but we get a lot of questions about our floor
and so if you want to go to our Instagram we'll have the information
about our floors on Instagram but let me tell you guys this floor will
stand up to the test of time we painted it with Bayer fortune floor
paint and my granddaughter actually took a
marker a permanent marker and wrote her name on my floor and it
just wiped right up so I'm a believer in the Bayer fortune
our table is an old farmhouse table that my husband and my son picked up
at a yard sale and all I did was I painted the bottom of it
and the the chairs also are the cane back chairs
cane bottom chairs and I just painted those white
they're a little rickety and so we're gonna switch them out with something
newer here shortly and but the top of the
table I will not touch it's original
it's the real wide barn wood and you can see the nail holes
and the nails on the top and I just love it the way it is
so on top of my table I just took some eucalyptus fun
that I got from Hobby Lobby I love eucalyptus
and I just placed a long sugar mold on top of it and put some candles in
it and it's real dreamy display whenever you
have company or you have dinner with your family and friends
we were recently at a peddler's mall and my husband
I had this little trolley cart thing and I love that the steel
is old and it's already turned it used to be red
it has the wooden handles and I just threw one of my old quilts
over top of it and then I have a best friend
her name is Rita and we love to switch out things once in a while and so
I had traded her an old vintage stove and she traded me
this old vintage refrigerator and I use this refrigerator to store my
jadeite collection and I get it out in the winter time
and the spring time I'll let you guys take a sneak peek in
here and it's just so beautiful and I use
all of my vintage collection even my old potato masher my rolling
pin above this vintage refrigerator I just
displayed an old typewriter I love the keys on it
and some old vintage clocks of course a little
kerosene lamp and some stacked books above that are these wooden trowels
that they used back in the day for like spreading concrete cement
and I just love the different woods and the different shapes of them and so
