Hey guys, Justin from Cooking with Coit here.
I specialize in clean comfort cooking,
and today I'm gonna show you how to make this
super delicious and very healthy mango salsa.
And if you love this video,
be sure to hit that like and subscribe button.
I'd love your support.
Let's get started.
The first thing we're gonna do
is dice up one half of a red onion.
The key to any salsa is that you don't want
any of the vegetables or any of the onions
to be really thick.
Then we're gonna transfer it to a bowl.
Now we're moving on to dicing up a whole red bell pepper.
I'm gonna try a new bell pepper cutting technique.
I have never done this before.
I just saw it on YouTube actually the other day,
so I wanna give it a go.
First, you cut the end off just like this,
and then you cut the other end off,
and then you get a small paring knife just like this,
and you cut it open on one side,
and then you basically just roll it out
as you're cutting off all of the inside parts.
I think this is called the roll technique.
I think.
If not, I just made up an awesome name.
And there we go, look at that.
So the advantage of having the bell pepper
in a ribbon like this now
is that I can cut it lengthwise like this,
and then I can also cut it like this,
and I'm gonna get the perfect little diced cubes.
Let's do it.
Look at these pieces, absolutely perfect.
This technique is so much better
than what I was doing before.
So if you saw me cut a bell pepper in the past videos,
disregard that, do this technique, it's way better.
All right, so now we're gonna move on to our jalapeno.
This is totally up to your preference.
If you really love a spicy salsa,
use more of the jalapeno.
If you are kind of a spice wimp like me,
then I'm gonna use a little bit less.
For this size jalapeno, I'm gonna use just half.
And of course, I'm gonna be taking out the seeds
from the jalapeno because the seeds are really spicy.
Give it a little tap, get the rest of those seeds out.
Okay, look at how beautiful this is looking already.
Look at those colors.
So next up, we are gonna cut the mango.
This is important.
You can't just pick up a mango and cut it any which way.
There is definitely a right and a wrong way to cut a mango,
and I'm gonna show you how to do it the right way.
You'll notice that the shape of a mango
is not perfectly round.
It's not like an orange or an apple.
It's a little bit oval.
You wanna look for the skinny side.
This is the skinny side, that's the fat side.
Skinny, fat, skinny, fat, skinny, skinny up.
We first want to make a cut on one side,
cut the other skinny side, lay it on its side.
Now, you'll notice that, see how it kinda stopped me?
That's because it already hit the seed.
So the seed in a mango is exactly really
like the shape of the mango.
It's a little bit kinda like oblong and oval.
If you hit the seed, don't worry about it.
Just move over a little bit, flip it around.
You know, the seed of this mango
really runs the entire way.
You could spend time carving more of this out
if you want by hand, kinda like this,
or according to camera Anne,
you could just eat it as a snack like an apple, like this.
It's good.
The next step in cutting a mango
is to take one of these kinda fat pieces here
and then start cutting lines.
Now, you gotta be careful
because this knife could easily go right through the mango
and hit your hand.
You don't wanna do that.
If you go slow and you're careful, all will be well.
If you talk to a camera and cut at the same time,
you might cut your finger off.
Now, I'm going to flip it around, make my lines this way,
and what I'm doing is I'm making perfect little cubes
like we did for the rest of the veggies.
Once you've cut the fat piece of the mango
into these big cubes, then you just do this.
Look at that.
I always think it looks like a little New York City.
Oh, or it looks like a hedgehog too.
Good point, Anne.
So now, once you've inverted the mango piece just like that
and you got it looking like New York City,
and again, take your paring knife
and just be really careful
and you're just gonna cut these little skyscrapers off.
I've seen people also use a spoon
and they kind of just dig it out with a spoon.
You can do that too.
This mango is like mostly there on the ripeness,
but it's still a little bit tough,
so I'm gonna use my knife.
After you've gotten most of the mango off of the mango skin,
it should roughly look like this.
And now for our cilantro,
we're gonna chop up about a quarter cup's worth.
Remember to remove the vast majority of the stems.
If you cut up a little bit of stem
and put it in your mango salsa,
it's not gonna be a problem.
Now we're gonna add the juice of two limes.
I have one really good tip for you
about how to get the most juice out of your limes.
Just roll it out just like this.
That's gonna get the inside super loose and super juicy.
Okay, I also have a really cool juicing device
that I absolutely love.
Of course, you could just squeeze the juice
out of the lime by hand,
but this device has some holes in the bottom
to let the juice out,
but the holes are too small to let the seeds through,
which is super cool.
Look at all that juice.
Now, before we finish off this mango salsa,
I just wanna tell you guys,
this mango salsa is so versatile.
You can do an incredible amount of things with it.
During the week, I find myself
with not a lot of time to make dinner,
so I usually just do a really simple chicken breast
and I make a quick batch of mango salsa
and just throw it on top.
It can take a boring chicken breast
and make it really flavorful and awesome.
For the last step here,
we're gonna add just a pinch of salt.
Salt is really important in this mango salsa
because it really brings out the flavor of the mango.
So all that's left here is we're gonna mix it up
and give it a taste.
Before I get into the taste test,

You can put it on pan-seared white fish,
and you can even eat it with a tortilla chip.
You guys gotta try this mango salsa.
It's so easy.
It's so healthy, and it's so delicious.
