Hello YouTube fam! Welcome or welcome back to my channel. If you're new here,
my name is Tina and I make videos on lifestyle, home, and DIY projects every single week. Today
is a super exciting day because we are jumping into our first makeover. As you guys know,
we just moved into our first home and the first place that I wanted to get done or at least
mostly get done is my craft room slash DIY studio. It makes me so happy that I now have a dedicated
space to make videos and be creative and it's also just so much better than the previous setup
that I had, which was basically just a table in my kitchen. And I also wanted to give a huge thank
you to Fi for sponsoring today's video. You guys know that I really love Fi and I'm so happy that
I'm able to use some of their pieces in this room and this makeover is kind of a phase one of this
room. As you guys know, shipping times for furniture is kind of tough right now so I'm
just working with things that I was able to get and I really just want this to be a beautiful
but also very functional space. I'm sure it's going to evolve as I work on it but for now,
I wanted to show you guys my mood board. So for this space, I'm imagining a lot of plants,
a lot of greens, as well as earthy tones. I want to add wood accents and mix in some black hardware
so that is what the mood board is looking like. I'm so excited to get started and before we do,
don't forget to like and subscribe down below and let me show you guys the before of the room.
Okay guys, so here's a look at the room right now. As you guys recall from the house tour,
this room has six big windows and I absolutely love them. The light looks amazing as the sun
is setting and even right now, I have the blinds down just because a lot of light gets in here and
it also kind of heats up a lot and as you guys can see, there is a ceiling fan. The AC in here
is not the greatest so my plan is to keep the ceiling fan and replace it with a new one that
looks a little bit more modern. Currently, all I have is my desk from Ikea. I set this up the
other day. Found my purse and it is amazing. This took maybe an hour and a half to put together
which is not bad and I love that the legs are adjustable so you can make this taller or shorter
and the actual tabletop is really inexpensive so if I do DIYs on here and it messes up the
tabletop, I'm not too worried about it. Although, I've heard that this is very durable and has been
highly recommended so overall, loving this setup but the rest of the setup is obviously what we
need to take care of. Look at that beautiful light. Oh my god, so pretty. So turning around, this
is that weird closet contraption. For now, I'm actually not going to touch this. I think I'm
going to do a whole video on this. I want to give this a makeover and make it more functional.
In the long run, we do plan to knock this out and make a proper closet in this room. Oh my god, can
you guys hear the cicadas? They are so loud in the evenings. For now, we're going to leave it as is
and basically just focus on this main area and make it as functional and stylish as possible.
Okay, so I turned on the light in here so hopefully you guys can see better but the paint in this room
definitely needs to be redone and also the baseboards so you can see it's all scuffed up.
Even right here, you can see the roller marks and a lot of the rooms are actually like this so they
definitely need a fresh coat of white. So we were off to Benjamin Moore to get some paint samples
and this was actually my first time going to one of their stores. It was a really great experience
since it's locally owned and the employees were super knowledgeable and helpful. I ended up getting
seven samples and as a word of warning, the samples that I got were actually $10 a pop which I
totally did not know so definitely call your local store to find out the prices and next time I need
samples, I'm definitely narrowing down my list to less than seven. So I read countless blogs to figure
out what kind of paint I wanted to try. I really wanted a warm toned white so I landed on Atrium
White, White Dove, Halo, Ivory White, Simply White, Chantilly Lace, and Oxford White. And when I opened
the lid of each one of the cans, they all looked white with the exception of Halo but once I put
them on the wall and saw them all together, you can really see a difference. And I also made sure
to put on two coats and looked at it in different lighting to help me make my decision. Okay so here's
how they look with two coats on. So here we have Atrium White, White Dove, Halo, which one is that?
Ivory White, I can't even read, Simply White, Chantilly Lace, and then also Oxford White over here.
These two you can barely see on camera just because it is on white but I can tell that this one is
just a touch darker. So I think I might use Simply White in a different room but for this room I was
debating between Atrium White and White Dove. Both of these are quite warm and this one has a touch
more of a pink undertone whereas this one is more neutral so I think this is going to fit our color
palette better so I'm going to go with the White Dove. It is officially painting day. We got our
buckets of paint and all the supplies that we need. I want to do a really good job of prepping
this space so we have to remove some screws, fill in some holes, as well as caulk all of the baseboards.
And I'm sure there's going to be plenty of other things to do but my mission today is to get this
room painted as well as to remove the ceiling fan because we're getting the new one tomorrow.
So let's get to cleaning. It was finally time to get to all of the painting so as I mentioned I
made sure to prep all the walls really nicely because I wanted this to be a really really good
job and once we got to painting I actually took over cutting in all the edges and the corners
and Brian did all the rolling so we make the perfect team because I actually really love cutting
in. I'm all about those little details so I really did not mind doing that and already this paint was
making such a difference in the room. You guys saw from the before the paint was just super uneven
and I felt like I really needed a refresh to just feel more inspired in the space.
Also as a side note, painting an almost white paint on a white wall is just so difficult to
see. Half of the time both Brian and I felt like we couldn't see where we were painting
and it was only until it was dry that we were able to see the spots that we were missing
so after a couple of coats we definitely got in the groove of it. Here's how the room is looking
after two coats. It is so much cleaner. I think this is the perfect color. It looks straight up
white when we were painting it so it was kind of hurting our eyes but you guys can see that there's
a clear difference between the trim and the wall color which I love that slight variation. It's
looking so good. What else am I doing? Next thing I want to do are the baseboards so there are nail
holes everywhere so I'm going to fill those up with caulk and hopefully I'll get a coat of paint
so they can look brand new and fresh again. Look at this corner. How gross.
Welcome to day two of this makeover. As you guys can see my place is still a mess but last night
we finished painting and this morning we actually got someone from TaskRabbit to put up the new
ceiling fan so that is looking really good and today we finally get to decorate which I'm so
excited about. All my items from Fyne just came in the mail and I thought this was the perfect time
to show you guys because everything is super cute so let me go ahead and take a seat really quickly.
So you guys know that I've used Fyne before in other makeovers and I absolutely love them and
if you haven't heard of Fyne before they are an online shop filled with thousands of items from
so many different brands and a lot of the brands on there are small businesses and artisans so when
you're shopping at Fyne you're able to support those small businesses which is really awesome.
They have tons of prints to choose from so no matter what your style is I'm sure that you're
able to find something for your home on there. So these are the two prints that I got for the room
these are just stunning I absolutely love the coloring on this one it is a really dark green
and then this one is almost green but I think it is a tan color so both of these are by the artist
Maggie Stevenson and I'll link these both below if you guys are interested but I love going on
there because I'm able to shop by artist and usually if I'm on the Fyne website and I find
something that I really like I go to the artist's page and that way I'm able to find tons of other
items that are very similar to that one piece so that's just one quick tip from me and aside from
their beautiful prints they also have an amazing selection of home decor so I did pick up this
throw blanket which if you can't already tell has some eyes on it which I absolutely love
it's just so cute I love that it's black and white but it also has this rainbow fringe on it
so this is just super cute and even when you flip it over you'll see all of the beautiful
rainbow threading coming through and it is honestly the perfect throw blanket for this
space I really love it I also picked up these baskets which are so gorgeous I love all the
detailing on them and these are really great for storage or even plants I already put one of my
plants in one of these smaller baskets and it's so cute I absolutely love these if you guys like
any of those items I will have it all linked below and Fye is actually giving you guys 20%
off of your entire purchase so be sure to use my discount code tina20 at checkout it is available
for 72 hours after you put it in so this is perfect if you've been looking for some new art
prints with or without frames or just any home decor they've got you covered so I'll have all
the details below I'm so excited to get these items styled so let me go ahead and take you
guys into the room our new ceiling fan usually I do not like ceiling fans they're not very
aesthetic but this room definitely needs it because it gets so hot in here I went with something more
modern and minimal and this is just perfect for this space it's gonna tie in other black accents
as well I don't know if you guys can see but I totally missed around those lights so we have to
go back in and do some more touch-up work I have no idea how people on YouTube do a full makeover
in one day like they paint the whole room and they get everything together painting this room was a
whole mission it basically took us the entire day and seeing how time-consuming this one room
took to paint it made me think of the other rooms that we have to paint and I'm not looking forward
to that I definitely enjoy the process of painting and cutting in and everything but having to wait
like a full day to get everything done I'm not very patient are you guys ready?
okay so here she is I absolutely love the coloring in here there's a lot of grays and greens blues
little touches of rust here and there and overall I was going for a little bit more of a moody look
and this rug is actually one of those printed rugs this is from Lalloy and this is in the color
Layla but I thought that I would do a printed rug just because I do craft in this room and this has
no pile to it so it's very flat and it'll be a lot easier for me to clean so I'm very excited
to have this so I'm furnishing this room with things that I was able to get easily in stores
and this Ikea trestle desk is great for adjusting higher or lower and is the perfect workspace for
my DIYs I also got another tried and true item from Ikea which is the Kallax unit I really wanted
to find a beautiful piece in black for this back wall so eventually the Kallax will be going
downstairs in our gym area but in the past I've used this for craft storage so this is just going
to be the perfect place holder for now and of course I also had to get another cart for my
most used supplies I previously had an art cart from Michael's but this one is just so gorgeous
in a deep green color I also got this from Ikea and I absolutely love it and you guys I have my
beloved vintage rattan shelf back my sister actually had it at her place while I was in LA
so we picked it up and I'm just so happy to have it back in my life this is going to be perfect
to utilize some vertical storage and also add in some plants decor and little knickknacks
so here's a lay of the land we have the desk in the middle here most of the time I'm going to be
putting my ring light right here so we have plenty of room for all that then I have my cart my Kallax
unit with all the baskets for so much storage and then in this area we have my beautiful rattan
shelf I'm so happy that I have it again and funny thing the internet boxes actually fit right
underneath here so I think I will keep it that way otherwise I might move it up here and then
cover it with a basket if you guys remember this at all I found this in my aunt's house the previous
owner left it this was either going to go in the trash or donation and I'm so glad that I found it
because it's beautiful it has caning on the top and this thing is definitely vintage if you look
online they're probably two or three hundred bucks but I got this one for free I also want to put
some sort of bench over here so I'll be on the hunt for that but so far this room is filling up
really nicely oh it just ran into my tripod and I'm basically just going to be filling this whole
room with plants but before we do that we do need to put up our curtains so I have some rods that
are going along this window as well as these windows and they just got here so let me put
those up I'm using black curtain rods and since we do have the corner windows over here I also
grabbed these little connectors so these are super great because you can just bend them at a 90 degree
angle and just fit it right up there and connect the longer side with the shorter and that way
they don't cross and touch each other this is my first time using them so I'm going to try and
figure this out to hang up these curtains I definitely needed to use some anchor screws
and the general rule is to place the brackets three inches out from the edge of the window
so that's exactly what I'm doing here there are no curtains in any of the rooms and I just feel
like this room in particular looked really naked without them so this is going to add in a nice
cozy factor and also just makes it feel so much more homey I'm placing these just above the window
framing since the trim around them is already so high this was just the perfect height and I also
went with a black hardware just to tie in with our new ceiling fan also this was my first time putting
up curtains and it was really easy so if you guys have ever been wanting to put up curtains but feel
intimidated it definitely is way easier than it looks and just make sure that you get all of your
measurements correct I'm so happy with these curtains are you guys ready to see them oh my
gosh that makes such a difference in this room so here's this side beautiful and then here is this
side and it just looks so much shorter without the curtains curtains no curtains exhibit A
exhibit B I think I like exhibit A better these curtains are actually from my old apartment so I
grabbed another pack of these so that I could fit all the windows they look pretty good for now I
don't know if I will actually keep them forever but I think it looks amazing right now it's very gloomy
outside it's been raining a lot so hopefully for the reveal the sun will come out but for now I'm
going to finish up this side and then we can get to styling and finishing up this room okay the sun
just came back and look how beautiful these curtains look in this room I think it fills it
out so nicely eventually we will be replacing the blinds as well as these windows but look
how much better they look with the curtains I'm just so in love so I have some plants in right
now and I'm actually fostering these plants my sister-in-law just became a travel nurse
so I am taking care of her plants and this one is so beautiful I'm imagining it in one of these
corners and I really just want to fill this whole room with plants I eventually want to fill these
spaces since it is a little bit more empty but for now I think this is a great place to start
and we're going to be able to grow into this room and just make so many beautiful things I also
wanted to share a little bit of the mess that we have going on here all of this stuff is going to
be styled in the room and let's do this and let's finish the room the pieces that I'm styling with
are pretty neutral with a few touches of amber green and black and these are just really going
tie in the room together I also just really wanted to be mindful of what I'm bringing into
the house so I'm leaving in some negative space because there's definitely going to be a lot of
room to grow a lot of you guys gave me the advice to take my time and to take it slow especially
when you're decorating a house that's definitely my approach here and I'm currently on the hunt
for more decor pieces to just make this space feel more complete but for now I'm using a bunch
of items I already had mixed in with a few new pieces as well as thrifted items from my latest
video and of course all of these windows just gives me so much opportunity to add in more plants
so I'm sure that I'll be adding in even more even after this makeover video
you guys the room is finally done and I am so ready to show it to you but before that let's
take a look back at the before we had a big empty space with uneven painted walls and a place that
just needed a refresh and some personal touches with a fresh coat of paint some new decor and
furniture pieces and of course a lot of plants we were able to really make this into a studio
that I'm really proud of without further ado here is the after
so that's my DIY studio all made up please let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below
I feel so inspired to create in this space and I honestly was getting emotional just looking at it
and seeing how far I've come and I can't believe I actually have my own little space to create and
share with you guys and I know the space is just gonna get better and better and as I mentioned
this was kind of a phase one we still have to tackle that weird closet situation so I do have
plans for that area and I also was thinking about painting the windows black I did a little mock-up
of it so let me show you guys in this photo here let me know if you guys think I should paint those
black or not I'm so up in the air about it but I think they look really good so if you guys like
that as well we can tackle that in the second phase of this makeover and again a huge thank
