Hi everyone! Welcome to Tokyo Kitchen Japanese Cooking Class.
This is Yoshimi.
Today, I'm going to show you how to make tuna mayo onigiri.
These are what you need.
Cooked rice, nori seaweed, canned tuna, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp mayonnaise, Japanese QP mayonnaise if available.
At first, let's make tuna mayo filling.
So let's open the can of tuna.
And put this in a bowl, little bowl like this.
And mix this really really well until it becomes like a paste.
Okay, now it's like a fluffy paste of tuna.
Let's add 1 tsp of soy sauce.
And 1 tbsp of Japanese QP mayonnaise.
And mix as well.
And this is the filling for tuna mayo onigiri.
Then you prepare some cooked rice.
And if you don't know how to cook Japanese rice, I have a video.
I put the link in the description below.
It's not too hot, but it's not too cold.
It's like lukewarm.
If the rice is too hot, it will melt the mayonnaise in here.
So make sure it's lukewarm.
And you need some nori seaweed.
Like this.
And let's cut it into three.
Nori seaweed has front side and back side.
Shiny side and rough side.
And you always put onigiri on the rough side of the nori seaweed.
So the shiny side goes outside of your onigiri.
So it looks prettier.
Prepare a bowl of water to keep your hands wet.
Wet your hands using this bowl of water.
To the palm completely like this, but not too soggy.
And take about this amount of salt.
Rub it all over your hand.
Then take about this amount of rice, handful.
Make a little dent in the middle.
Put this tuna mayo onigiri filling.
Wrap it up using this rice.
And try to form triangle shape.
Don't squeeze it too tight.
About this size, triangle shape.
The thickness.
Then put it on this nori seaweed.
Wrap both sides down.
Tuck the bottom in.
And your tuna mayo onigiri is good to go.
Now I have three onigiri rice bowls.
Let's put a little bit of this tuna mayo filling on top.
So that you know what the filling is.
Onigiri rice bowl is very popular snack or meal here in Japan.
