Halloween Special - The Ugly History Of Witch Hunts

Special - The Ugly History Of Witch Hunts: Much has been written about the persecution of witches in the period between the Renaissance and the end of the eighteenth century. Yet it is still difficult to understand how these atrocities could have happened. At least 60,000 people, as many as three-quarters of whom were women, were forced into absurd confessions of witchcraft and were then horribly killed.

Starting in the 15th century, tens of thousands of witches were burned in Europe. They were considered secret devil worshippers who indulged in carnal lust and cannibalism during nightly rituals. What persuaded people to hunt down innocent men and women and condemn them based on nothing but falsehoods and myths ?
