In this video I'm going to show you how to install a Ring Video Doorbell.
We're going to do it right now.
All right so I got my Ring Video Doorbell here and we'll open it right up and see what we got.
Basically what this thing does is it has a camera on it and it's triggered by motion
and it can send a video to your phone to let you know that somebody's at your door
and you can also hook that up to your actual doorbell.
You don't have to hook this up to your actual doorbell
but I'm going to show you how to just in case you wanted to.
So we have the doorbell itself and then we have a bracket
that holds the doorbell to whatever you're mounting it to
and then we have a box here.
Installation tools and we have instructions.
This video is going to be your instruction anyways so you're good with that.
One thing to know is you are going to have to charge this before it's going to work
so before you even start this project I would suggest charging it so it's all charged up and
ready to go.
Okay so I downloaded the app.
I set it all up.
I'm not going to show all that because there's a bunch of personal information and everything
but it's pretty simple and then you're going to go to where your camera is
and you want to do live view because I want to test out what this is going to look like.
So live view and there it is.
Hey it's us!
Let's go see where this is going to be installed.
Here we are at the back door and this is the old doorbell.
So if I mount this right here this is pretty low.
My face is about right here.
However I do have stairs right here so if somebody's coming up
you're definitely going to be able to see their face.
Okay we'll pour out our installation tools here
and first we got a drill bit that I'm not going to need
but if you were going into brick or cement you would need this.
So basically where these holes mount and I'll show you how to mount them.
Where those holes are you'd have to pre-drill with this and they give you some anchors right here.
You put these anchors in, hammer those in, and then you install the screws
but I'm not going to need to do that.
Also they give you this little diode here and it says
planning to wire in your ring doorbell check the manual to see if you need this.
So basically what it says is if you have a diode already then that's when you need this.
If your doorbell is digital attach the diode to the two screws on your bracket.
If your doorbell is mechanical and makes a ding-dong noise don't install the diode.
And then you have your screwdriver which has two tips.
Has a phillips and a star and a handy dandy level.
So this level hooks on right here.
It snaps on just like that depending on where you want to put your your wires through.
I'm going to try and put mine as low as possible to raise this up as much as I can.
So I'm going to leave that right there.
And now we can take the old doorbell off and install the bracket.
All right so I'm going to take off my old doorbell.
I'm just going to use the screwdriver they gave me.
And now I got my doorbell here.
Okay so this is what I was afraid of was...
Oh wait okay.
So pulling on the wire that looks like that's about as much wire as I can get.
So hopefully I can work with that.
I'm gonna take these wires off of here.
Oh and my dog is gonna bark because he hates the doorbell.
I think somebody's here.
All right it's disconnected.
Now I got my bracket here.
And it goes this way.
There's writing on the bottom that says ring.
That goes upright.
So the wires go through here.
And only thing I want to make sure is that the wires...
Like I said I want to put this up as high as I can.
But if I put it that high first of all it won't cover that.
But also the wires won't reach these terminals.
That's where the wires get connected.
So I'm going to go down until this gets covered.
Which is about right there.
And the wires will connect.
So now I put that bubble right in the center.
Make it nice and level like that.
Now I want to take a pencil and mark these four mounting holes.
All right those are marked out.
Now just to be safe I'm going to pre-drill these.
So I don't have any wood splitting.
I'll pre-drill these with a small drill bit.
I'm going to switch the bit over to a phillips and just make it faster.
Make sure my wires go through and line up the holes.
Start that screw in and I'll start one more.
Get these in.
Now I'm going to put all four of these in before I tighten these down.
Just so I know the screws are going to go in.
Then I can tighten them down.
Now be careful because this is plastic and you don't want to break it.
In fact I'm going to go and use the tool that they gave.
And just do these hand tight so I can feel if I'm going to break anything.
That's good.
Nice and solid.
Now I can take the level off.
And it doesn't matter, black or white, which terminal these go to.
But you want the wire to go this way when you're twisting it around the screw.
So it's kind of tightening the wire as you go.
So loosen this up and I'll put the white wire here and then tighten it.
Okay and then loosen this one up.
Knock that up and tighten it.
Okay I'm going to try and tuck the wires in as much as I can.
That should be good.
And then I'll grab the doorbell.
And on the back of here you have these little slots.
And they go onto these pieces here.
And then it barely gets pushed down.
And that's it.
The last thing really is underneath here you have these little screws
that you have to tighten so that this doesn't pop off.
And you're going to have to loosen these anytime you want to take it off the bracket to charge it.
And the good thing is is on the app it tells you how much battery life this has.
So this is what the other bit is for.
You can take this out.
That's the star bit.
That's for those screws.
Go ahead and tighten those up.
Okay that's it.
Let's check it out.
Hey that's me.
All right a little bit of delay.
Oh there we go.
All right that looks good.
Oh actually it's at a perfect height.
Wow.
So I'm standing straight up.
I didn't know I'll go that high.
I figured I'd have to mount it up here.
I'm glad I mounted it down there.
So that's good to know.
Cool it's working.
Let's check if the doorbell works.
If you hear a dog bark the doorbell works.
Awesome.
Well that was pretty easy.
I think this thing is going to work out great.
It seems pretty cool.
