10 best places to eat in San Francisco. The elegant red lines of the Golden Gate Bridge
have long welcomed visitors to San Francisco and marked the beginning of the culinary
world land heaven. There are plenty of classic dining establishments in this boggy city by the
bay, so stay tuned with us on Traveler's Nirvana for our exclusive list of San Francisco's best
restaurants, from quick bites to fine dining and hidden gems. But, before we begin, please don't
forget to like this video, subscribe to our channel, and turn on the post notification.
Now, let's begin!
10. Lazy Bear The food at Lazy Bear is New American at
its best, with two Michelin stars and the price tag of about $300 per person to prove it.
The restaurant serves up contemporary American cuisine with flavors that are inherently
delectable and recognizable. The meal, which has to be reserved in advance, begins with a cocktail
hour in the mezzanine, where guests are treated to the first few courses, which are mostly small
bites and drinks in which pairings are optional, before moving downstairs to be seated at one of
two very long communal tables. A chef introduces each of the 15 courses as they arrive, creating
a presentation that is both theatrical and welcoming. The food highlights include a trio
of oysters, each dressed in a distinctive way, fried with a fiery XO chili oil and tangy ranch,
broiled a la Rockefeller in a creamy green garlic glaze, or served raw with pickled ramphone and
rhubarb. Strong flavors presented creatively are a recurring theme, as seen in the buttery A5 Wagyu
ribeye, served with a tart of sour cherries and oxtail that has the perfect lattice crust.
It may seem strange to pay over $300 only to have no say over what you eat or who you sit with,
other than the dining companions with whom you arrived, but that's exactly what happens at this
restaurant dinner party. But it works, and excellently well. Number nine, Delfina. Delfina
is the epitome of a neighborhood Italian restaurant. In fact, because it's so good, the Michelin-starred
spot draws people from all over the bay who want to enjoy the rustic Italian dishes made with local
Californian ingredients. The lively dining room is attended by a friendly staff, and the menu
changes with the seasons. From doppio ravioli filled with ricotta di buffalo and fava bean puree,
to roasted chicken with olive oil mashed potatoes, or wild king salmon with caper lace puree blanc,
all dishes are soul-satisfying. Noteworthy seasonal desserts and an excellent side dish
would be the pea shoot with stracciatella. We must say their spaghetti and roasted chicken
are exercises in how simplicity can result in near perfection. It's difficult not to order them
every time, but trying something new never disappoints. Number eight, Angler. There were
many expectations when famous chef Joshua Skeens of Saizon announced the opening of this new
restaurant in 2018, and the good news is that Angler lives up to the hype in terms of space,
service, and food. Though the name conjures up images of fishing, the self-described sea-life
focused restaurant also excels in hunting, ranching, and gathering. Almost every hot dish
is prepared over a 32-foot hearth and an open wood fire grill. The whole chicken is perfection,
and the raw dishes, such as the antelope tartare and oysters, are all mouth-wateringly good.
If you're feeling frisky, the caviar is excellent and totally worth it. When it comes to design and
decor, yes, Angler is less formal than its more upscale sister restaurant, but the quality of
the ingredients, cooking techniques, and atmosphere remain upscale, and the prices reflect this.
Number seven, Lijo Lijo Yacht Club. Hawaiian food is fairly common in San Francisco these days,
but nowhere does it with more flair and creativity than Lijo Lijo. The trick, perhaps,
is that Lijo Lijo serves dishes inspired by Chinese, Indian, and Californian cuisine,
as well as traditional Hawaiian fare. The relaxed atmosphere makes you want to stay for a while,
which is ideal because all of the dishes are meant to be shared, and you'll want to try as many as
possible. The house special spam is made in-house and served with kimchi fried rice, a smoked egg
yolk, tamari, and clamshell mushrooms. Their drink menu is extensive, with a long list of
delectable cocktails that are fairly priced. The service is excellent and friendly, and the
environment makes it an excellent top pick any day. Number six, Akiko's Restaurant and Sushi Bar.
In 2013, Anthony Bourdain famously said,
If I knew I was going to die tomorrow morning, I'd probably be eating some really high-end sushi
tonight. The famous chef and author would have thrived at Akiko's. Akiko's is conveniently
situated in the center of San Francisco, and the family-run restaurant has been serving traditional
and distinctive Japanese cuisine to its patrons for more than 30 years. This upscale downtown
restaurant sources fresh fish from sustainable local and organic sources, and the food is served
in a welcoming environment for those who are wishing to indulge in the culinary delights they
have to offer. Their warm and knowledgeable staff complement the exquisite sushi and the
rustic earth tones of the restaurant, complete with the imported rosewood floors and exposed
brick walls contribute to the exceptional atmosphere. Number five, Akerelo. All we have to say
about this restaurant can be summed up by its own mission statement. Akerelo believes that refined
luxury is always in fashion. Our goal is to provide our guests with a taste of classic and
contemporary Italian cuisine in an elegant dining setting. This intimate restaurant, whose name means
watercolor, is elegant and subdued, displaying artistry in both cuisine and appearance. Its
tranquil atmosphere and vaulted beam ceiling take you back to Akerelo's former life as a chapel.
The main draw, however, is contemporary Italian cuisine, which includes dishes like parsley
encrusted pork loin, beef carpaccio with hearts of palm and black truffles, and tuna in a fennel
dill crust with saffron sauce. The wine list includes vintage from Italy and California,
and it is well suited for oenophiles. Number four, Empress by Boone. Empress by Boone,
owned by Malaysia-born, Michelin-starred chef Ho Chi Boone, is a stunning restaurant located in
the heart of Chinatown that serves an elegant yet approachable seasonal menu of modern Cantonese
gastronomy. Chef Ho offers distinct elevated dishes that create a memorable epicurean
experience by combining traditional culinary techniques with fresh, often unexpected ingredients.
The restaurant offers a pre-fixed menu for $98, as well as a separate small bites menu
served in a trendy bar area. The drink selection is great and varied, with each selected in
thoughtful consideration of what would expertly match each cuisine. The restaurant offers striking
views of the district and city skyline, and the stunning interior design of its interior
combines modern elements with restored features of the iconic Chinatown landmark, Empress of China.
Number three, Green's Restaurant. Green's, one of San Francisco's finest vegetarian restaurants,
is known for its distinct culinary style of celebrating vegetables with ever-changing menus
dedicated to the seasonal harvest of local farmers and the organic gardens of its farm,
Green Gulch. According to the 2007 New York Times article about the restaurant,
it is the restaurant that brought vegetarian cuisine out from sprout-infested health food
stores and established it as a cuisine in America. Chef Annie Somerville, the menu's creative force,
has an artistic touch, as evidenced by Asian-inspired curries, fresh pizzas, and luscious
pastas. Soups, sandwiches, and salads are also popular, as is a tempting wine list. Located in
a lively scene in a spacious warehouse with grand windows stretching floor to ceiling in the dining
room, diners inside the expansive space have spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge
and the Bay. The view offers a calm, tranquil shot and a beautiful background for your pictures.
Number 2. Mr. Jew Michelin-starred 2022 James Beard award-winning restaurant.
Need we say more? Bright and airy, Chef Jew's dining room is quite impressive. The main
restaurant is located in a large banquet hall, making it ideal for group meals, but lone diners
will also appreciate the chic bar up front where a wide variety of tempting cocktails are served.
There is soul and creativity to all the dishes, from the organic smoked tofu served with
summer-sweet cherry tomatoes, to the plump shelling beans and spicy peanut and chili oil sauce
served with the mouth-watering medallions of rabbit loin wrapped in ramps and paired with
crispy legs. The dishes exude a California vibe while remaining rooted in good traditions,
thanks to the use of locally and seasonally available ingredients.
So, if you think variety is the spice of life, this is a great place for you.
Number 1. House of Prime Rib And at the number one on our list is the
House of Prime Rib. Locals and tourists alike visit this iconic San Francisco steakhouse for
two reasons, the meat and the martinis. House of Prime Rib has been in business since the 1940s
and hasn't changed much since then. The fireplaces and cozy leather banquets in the English-style
dining rooms make this space as intimate as it is iconic. The House of Prime Rib serves some of the
best corn-fed beef in the Bay Area. Their meticulously prepared meat is aged for 21 days,
resulting in meat that is particularly tender, juicy, and flavorful. Diners enjoy well-marbled
prime rib, carved table side to order, and sides like fluffy mashed or baked potatoes,
tossed salad, Yorkshire pudding, and creamed spinach. The dessert cart serves a decadent
selection of sinful sweets, as well as assorted wines, and the service is always excellent.
