Evidence of Alcatraz • Ghost Files Debrief
Whispers on Broadway?
Screaming in the hospital ward?
Grab a snack and help us unpack all that and more.
It's time for Ghost Files Debrief.
Thank you for joining us.
I'm Ryan Bergara, and that thing over there
is my colleague, Shane Madej.
Shane.
Oh, well, each week over here on Debrief,
we're gonna be looking back at our most compelling evidence,
behind the scenes moments,
and answering your burning questions.
Do you wanna die?
Hmm, I don't know.
Not for a while.
I'd like to live to like 145, I think.
Shout out to Scentbird for sponsoring today's video.
Fun fact, we love sampling new scents at the store.
Oh yeah.
But one spray on a tiny sheet of paper
isn't really enough to satisfy me.
And full bottles are way too expensive to commit to,
unless you're super sure.
Scentbird solves all those problems
by sending you a 30-day supply
from over 600 designer brands.
For just $17 a month,
they send you designer fragrances right to your door.
Ding dong.
Plus, I like how flexible the service is.
I could skip any month without penalty
if I just wanna vibe with the scents I already have,
you know?
For example, this month, I received
Light Blue from Dolce & Gabbana.
Bitch Please from Confessions of a Rebel.
Rich Sheer from Burberry.
Be Delicious by DKNY.
And finally, Bright Crystal Absolute from Versace.
My favorite is Bitch Please.
Wow.
Bitch Please.
In Your Face Fruit.
No, it's like black currant mingle with jasmine petals
weaving a decadent web tinged with an element of sass.
Bold, brash, and unafraid to bear it all.
Creamy sandalwood and skin musk
evoke a carefree, confident kind of vibe.
You know exactly who you are.
And you are, in fact, the ******* boss.
To use it, all you have to do is turn the top here
to unlock and press down like any other spray bottle.
Then you could just log it back up
and throw it around without worrying about it,
putting smells where you don't want them.
Sign up for ScentBird today.
Right now, there's a quiz to help you figure out
your first scent and start your fragrance journey.
There's literally no downside.
I mean, the shift to Canada.
Now, with the link in our bio,
you can get 55% off your first month.
You heard me right, 55%.
Making it just a little over $7.
A steal!
That's a steal, that should be illegal.
Sign up today and thank you again to ScentBird
for sponsoring this video.
Now, back to the show.
Alcatraz, holy Jesus Christ.
That's right, that's right.
This is, we had dreamed of going to Alcatraz
for a very long time.
No, I mean, honestly, it didn't hit me
until I was editing late last night.
I was looking at the episode,
and for whatever reason, I was just stuck
in that one part where you were talking about
this is an amazing opportunity to be here.
And obviously, when you're there,
you're filming the episode, I'm scared,
I don't wanna be there because I'm scared.
But as I was sitting and looking at it
in the editing bay, I just couldn't help but think,
wow, this really is an amazing opportunity.
We're on Alcatraz Island right now.
I mean, more or less alone,
outside of a couple guides who were there
to make sure that we didn't set the island on fire.
Yeah, we had to charter a tiny little boat
to go there after hours after the last tourists
came back to the mainland.
That's right.
It felt like going on a real little adventure.
And now, a debrief of our investigation of Alcatraz,
starting with the evidence.
What do we got this week for goose?
Oh, we got a lot.
Look, we didn't have nearly as much as we did in Waverly.
That's just the nature of the beast.
Every haunted house is like a living thing.
You don't know if it's gonna be active.
It's a bit of a toss-up, right?
Because, opportunity of a lifetime to go to Alcatraz.
At the same time, Alcatraz, pretty locked down.
It's a prison.
But also, you're not gonna get as many people
investigating it willy-nilly
like you get at a lot of other locations.
So, we may have not received as much viewer evidence,
but we still took the opportunity and went to check it out.
I think the next time you do the quotes,
when you say evidence.
What are you gonna do, bite my fingers off?
I'm gonna bite your fingers off, yeah.
How would you know that?
I'd love to see that.
I'm gonna bite them off like a ******* carrot.
Like when the penguin bites that guy's nose.
That's right, yeah.
What a moment.
Up first, we got a clip from our spirit box session
in the shower room where we maybe got a response
from an inmate who passed away there.
We asked, what happened to you?
And pretty crazy that we got a pretty clear,
in my opinion, I died.
Maurice Herring, what happened to you in this room?
I died?
What do you think about this, compelling?
No, I mean, what do you want from me?
It doesn't sound, like what does it actually
sound like to you?
Like do your best to actually.
It sounds like radio static going, honk, honk.
Do your best to actually understand.
Doesn't sound like honk, honk.
I think we got Al Franken on there.
Bobo the Clown?
Yeah, I don't know, it sounds like a radio scanner.
I think it sounds like it.
We also had a couple other responses
during that session that were pretty funny.
I already saw people getting pissed at me
in last week's debrief and they were like,
well, if this is all he's gonna do every week,
but what do you want from me?
I have to be here for the half of the audience
that doesn't buy into this.
They need me, man.
And we're tired of trying to explain this ----
to you people that don't care.
The burden of proof is not on us.
Let us chill.
I'm here to have a good time with my pal.
Yeah, he's here to challenge evidence,
to be a D-bag, and to wear corduroy jackets.
And he's doing all three to perfection, if you ask me.
Come on, buddy, get outta here.
Hey, by the way, have you seen this sweet-ass shirt?
Watcherstore.com.
That's right.
Heard of it?
Yeah, you can get all your ghost gear there.
You can put your name right over your nipple like I have.
Yep, join the Boo Crew.
That's right.
Get your last name on there.
Also some great glow-in-the-dark Ghost Files shirts.
That's right.
Gorgeous.
It's good for the ghouls to see you
when you're coming at them in a dark area.
But yeah, fun.
I can see, I was honestly surprised when it was me
being the one who was like, did that say I died?
It's because it sounded like I died.
I didn't pull that caption out of my ass.
Yeah, I think I'm-
I pulled it out of your mouth,
which is, I guess, kind of an asshole in itself.
I mentioned it, yes.
I mentioned this in the commentary for the first episode,
which you can find on patreon.com slash watcher right now.
But I talk in that commentary about how,
for this series, we went,
we did go into it with being like,
well, how can I approach this differently
as someone who doesn't believe, but does.
Sure, it would be cool to have my worldview
just totally severed, cracked, shattered,
and break the bounds of the reality that I know
and realize that ghosts are real.
That'd be fun.
So I do agree that I would love to see a ghost.
I've always said that, and it's true,
but I'm leaning into that more on this one,
which is why when there's stuff that maybe would spook you,
I'm like, hey, hey, did you hear that?
You know, hey, come on now.
We appreciate you for it.
Yeah.
Let's move on to the next piece of evidence here.
We got some evidence from the REM pod
in the utility corridor.
We were talking to the three gents
who were killed there when they tried to escape.
Yeah, was this like a beep, beep, boop?
It's beeping, and it beeps in accordance
to how close you are to it.
So like, it corresponds with the light.
So if we could get someone to go all the way
up to the red or the purple.
Okay, let's hear it.
That was very good, but I'm gonna need you
to get all the way through that door.
That's it.
Give it a good, come on now.
Jab it.
What's that noise?
Someone walking around?
Well, that is a jumpy little pod over there, huh?
No, someone's moving around, seriously.
Someone, maybe it's something wrestling around outside.
Nope.
It's not like.
Okay, great.
Yeah, the REM pod, what do you want from the REM pod?
It's not gonna say like.
Just a little beep, beep, boops, yeah.
Hey, they're near me!
Hey, it's touching me!
They're touching me!
I've seen people online say that you can say it
to tell it to do a red light or a green light,
but I feel like that's too demanding of the ghosts.
Yeah, I mean.
Because what does the red light mean, temperature increase?
You're also assuming, no, no, that there's actual,
like there's four lights on it,
and it goes one, two, three,
in terms of how close the disturbance is.
I see.
But there is also a temperature thing.
There is a temperature thing that's also red.
Okay.
But that's a smaller bulb.
The thing is, to me, it's just like,
you're assuming that a ghost,
and most of these ghosts are from an era
without cell phones or anything like that.
They don't understand anything.
Hey, can you make that REM pod turn to purple?
They're idiots!
If I was a ghost and some guy walked into my living room
and was like, make that thing turn purple,
I'd be like, who the **** are you, dude?
Get out of here.
Yeah, I mean, we asked it to get close to that door
to escape to freedom,
and we got a pretty strong response on the REM pod.
We also did hear some milling about in the prison,
which we were kind of hearing bumps and stuff all night,
but it was cool to actually hear some of the noises
in this particular moment.
Yeah, we did hear some shuffling.
We heard some shuffling.
There was a shuffler somewhere in there, so I don't know.
Next clip we got is this strange whisper on Broadway.
Let's hear this very spooky little clip.
I honestly don't know how you explain this one.
It's in Broadway.
Broadway's very active.
Lots of cells.
What's odd is I think according to the history,
I don't believe there were any female prisoners in that.
I don't think there were female prisoners at this prison,
let alone in that ward.
There had to be some ladies around at some point, right?
Staff?
A conjugal visit?
Sure.
But I don't think they'd do those in the cell,
but that would explain the yeah, maybe.
The yeah.
Yeah, baby, yeah.
Yeah, that's possible.
Yeah, you're right.
Good theory.
Holy ----, dude.
That's what people tune in for, your theories.
They do.
Oh, man, if I was a ghost,
I would exclusively quote Austin Powers
to give the most amazing EVP.
This is why people tune in.
Yeah, baby, yeah.
That's not even good.
It's so easy to do in Austin Powers.
Why did he sound Australian?
Why don't we move on?
A scream in the hospital ward.
That's right.
The next piece of evidence
is a scream in the hospital ward.
This happened during my solo.
Let's see the clip here.
I heard a little scream.
Heard a little scream.
I like to imagine it's just a really little, little person.
Like a tom thumb.
Like a little ghost?
Yeah, and he was sitting on your shoulder going.
What do you think it was?
I think it was birds.
Yeah, you look.
There's so many birds.
There was a lot of birds in that island.
I might give this one to you.
That might be birds.
There's some freaky ass birds.
They were ******* huge.
They were Shane-sized birds.
They were so scary.
They looked like mothmen.
I remember when you were doing your solo investigation.
You probably saw them when I was doing mine too.
I did.
They were in a tree and it was freaky.
It was so freaky looking.
I was barely paying attention to my interview.
You could tell.
Yeah, that's not a shock.
I was thinking about those birds the whole time.
Yeah, look.
When you're in the heat of the moment,
the idea that in the hospital ward,
I'm gonna be able to hear birds outside
doesn't really penetrate your mind
because I was in that ceramic dungeon of a shower room.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So the idea that clearly this is a noise from the outside.
You don't think about the outside
when you're in a prison like that.
I think it was birds.
It could have been a ghost screaming.
And you know what?
To my credit, I did run towards the noise immediately.
I did not want to.
That's good.
But it's my goddamn job.
That's good.
I like to hear that.
Thank you.
You're doing great so far this series.
You're doing the best you can.
Not much.
Okay, that does it for evidence.
Moving on to our next section.
Behind the Screams.
That was very sing-songy.
Thank you.
You should stop that.
This is a segment on this show called Behind the Screams.
And this is a segment on this show
where we will be taking a little behind the scenes look,
a peek behind the curtain, if you will,
at how we make ghost files.
And this week, what are we doing to do that, Shane?
Well, this week, this is a segment on the show
where we're gonna be talking to our dear friend
and director of the show,
Mr. Mark Benedict Antonio Celestino.
That's good corny.
Come on out here, Mark.
Oh, yeah.
That's good.
Sorry for this.
Pardon the red seat for you.
Yeah, I don't have a seat
because you guys took all the budget
for these really nice ones.
Hey, look, man, you're the-
Really nice.
This is real leather.
Oh.
You sure there was just leather on that?
Yeah, get a whiff of this, baby.
Give it a whiff.
Go on.
Okay.
This is normally when I would tell them to stop,
but they won't, and so, yeah.
Shane hasn't been the same
since he hung out with Quentin Tarantino.
Show me your feet.
Mark, good to see you.
Great to see you.
I always see you guys all the time.
You do.
But never in this way.
Never in this way.
It's kinda, it's strange.
People might remember you
from, you were on the Buzzfeed Unsolved 69-a-palooza,
or whatever that episode was called.
It was not called the 69-a-palooza.
It was the 69th episode.
It was called the almost 70th episode retrospective.
I was playing sex.
69-a-palooza was a different event,
and that was off camera.
You were, you popped into,
I mean, you've been here on pretty much
all of our ghost hunting adventures.
That's right.
Majority of it, yeah.
For a couple years, been a while.
More than a couple years, Mark.
More than a couple years, yeah.
And now we're back at it.
Let's talk about this episode.
Okay.
Your favorite episode of the season.
Yes, this is my least favorite of this season.
Why is that?
I don't know.
Well, it's my least favorite,
but at the same time, it's my favorite one
in terms of the graphics.
Graphics are great.
Mark does the graphics, too.
He does quite a few of them.
He does the graphics in terms of like
the little bleeps and bloops map breakout.
Pretty sweet.
It's pretty fun.
And those look beautiful.
They do look beautiful.
I look at them all the time.
Yeah.
You do, I've seen you.
I do.
Yeah, what happened to this episode?
Not much, really.
Can you just hold on for a second?
You wanna do me a favor and silence your ******* phone
for Ghost Files debrief?
Why is it on?
Oh, I got a Twitter note.
So Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark.
Mark?
Mark, Mark.
Look at, no, look at me now.
Over there, okay.
No, look at, don't look at me.
No, look at me.
There you go.
Hey, Mark.
How is your role different on this show
than it was in Unsolved?
Well, now, like Unsolved,
I remember I would just come in and just,
I don't know what I'm shooting.
That's right.
I literally just come up and I'm like,
all right, we're filming, I'm following these guys.
You're not just plucking her belly buttons,
things like that.
Now, it's, you know,
I'm more invested in the stories and the locations
and, like, I really wanna see an evidence.
And I know, actually,
I feel like a lot of the questions for me
would be asking if I'm a Shaniac or a Boogaro.
That's right.
Neither, because I don't wanna be called that,
but I don't believe in ghosts,
but I would love for them to be real,
because it'll make the world a much more interesting place.
That's where I'm at, you know?
Yeah.
That's where he claims,
that's his tagline that he says.
Technically, I think that's legal jargon
that he ironed out with his lawyer.
Yeah, I wanna know,
Alcatraz is an interesting paradox,
because, obviously, it's this, like,
incredible opportunity, a landmark, famous,
nuts, nuts to be there alone.
But also, all the lights were on.
Yes, actually, that's partly why they didn't like us.
I was gonna guess, yeah.
So they didn't let us,
like, some of the lights are left on for safety,
because it's a national park,
and we can't turn them off, so.
Maybe that's why it's not as active as here.
Ghosts don't like light bulbs.
Why is that?
But the thing is, as a director, too,
just to get a little bit more granular with that.
Yeah, mm-hmm, even more so.
So, like, here's where we were before,
we're trying to get to here.
There we go.
Okay.
Okay, so what's the question?
Sorry, I just.
What is the question?
Well, actually, it's not more of a question.
It's more like a demonstrative statement,
I would say, that, like, when it comes to this show,
I have a mishmash of, like,
of what I wanted the show to be.
There's, like, a vision, if you will.
Yeah.
And you're the person who actually was executing that,
and making it better, I would say.
Is that a fair description of?
Yeah, I mean, that's what the whole team does,
is help you create the show, be better.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, but you're, like.
They take your ideas, and they make them good.
They make them good, exactly.
Exactly.
It's, like, the most successful recycling program
that you could possibly have.
You take ----, and you make it into, like,
a slice of bread or something.
That's what you pay us for.
That's true, to turn my ---- into bread.
Mark, we have some questions that people asked,
specifically for you, from the web.
Here's one from Toria Liz on Twitter.
Hey, Mark, have you noticed anything during filming
that Shane and Ryan didn't?
Like, have you ever had to point out evidence to them?
I could only recall one, but it's on Unsolved.
It was in Vulture Mine, right?
Vulture Mine.
As I'm filming the corner of my eye,
I see the door slowly moving,
and you guys were saying something
that I didn't want to say anything over your lines,
just in case we need it for the edit,
but I'm pointing at the door, and it's, like,
slowly moving.
Yeah, that was, I do remember that.
That room was gross.
That whole place was gross.
There was a dead bird in the middle of us.
There's dead bird,
there's more dead birds later this season.
There is.
Actually, there's some pretty good Mark content
in the next episode
that I think you guys are gonna really like.
I know one person at the next location really liked Mark.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, boy, that's gonna be fun.
You just burped in my face.
They bring you on the show, and you repay me?
Your coffee always makes me burp.
Oh, this is the best.
Here's one from SkitsyLoveBob.
Mark, you're an icon, all caps.
Oh, thank you.
Is that the question?
No, what's it like filming for Ghost Files?
Are you scared of the ghosts?
Are you just there for a good time?
And then, finally,
and do you have a favorite location you've filmed on?
That was the question that really jumped out to me.
First, am I scared of ghosts?
No, because I'm kind of on your boat.
It's true, true.
I don't believe in it, but don't get me wrong,
it gets a little creepy sometimes.
What was the next question?
What's it like, what's it like, what are you like?
It's dark, yeah.
And favorite location?
Favorite location, huh, dang.
That's a tough one.
That's a toughie.
Oh, it's mainly because of how good the episode is,
Saint Ignatius, just the look of it in terms of the show.
Like, I don't want to be there.
That comes out next week, by the way, that episode.
But it's my favorite.
That one was really good.
This is a really good granular question.
This next question is something that's gonna really
kind of get into the weeds when it comes to your job,
because people don't actually know, I feel like,
that you are also the show's cinematographer,
in addition to being the director, and graphics guy.
Cinestino, they call him, or Cinemark.
Yeah, Cinemark, I prefer Cinemark.
But here's a question to that degree.
This comes from Jess at Warpspeed underscore chic.
Question for Mark.
Really into how cinematic Ghost Files looks.
What sorts of planning slash processes
go into figuring out what shots you need to get
as part of the B-roll slash main footage
in order to fill out the video
and create the immersive feel of the show?
That's a nice question.
I appreciate that.
Someone working on behind the camera.
We do a lot of B-roll before we shoot, if we can.
Technically, Lizzie and I are the first ones
to step in these places.
Who's Lizzie?
She's over there.
Well, I know that, but I'm trying to get you
to tell the audience who Lizzie is.
Oh, oh.
Ryan Sundance.
Lizzie's our producer.
Who's Lizzie?
Is that my daughter?
Lizzie's our producer.
And as far as how we develop the look of the show,
I feel like it's just over the years of experience,
ghost hunting, and even the set, for example,
there's a green cast on this set
that we just leaned in on.
This is not a set, Mark.
It's not a set.
There's a green cast on this machine.
That's right, that's right.
And we just leaned on it.
We just kind of leaned on the natural things,
but at the same time, the look of the show
is just trying to present it
as real and authentic as possible.
I just, speaking of the machine,
I just wanted, I have to give this PSA every now and then.
If our Patreon numbers dip too low,
we're shutting this thing down and letting them all loose.
That's true.
The Boo Goo containment unit could only contain so much
before we need to juice it again, so.
You're paying for the juice.
Yeah.
But yeah, you guys do scouts on this series now,
so you go out before the actual episode
and get a lot of footage of the place.
Without us walking around being like,
oh, look at me over here, bro, look at me, Mark.
Waka, waka, waka, waka, waka.
So when they go in, they really haven't seen the place,
so it's natural reaction,
and we wanna be as authentic as possible.
I don't even have lights on me.
And I know part of the question sometimes I've seen
where it's like, how do I keep the camera steady?
Sometimes I don't.
I laugh behind the camera,
and I just try to be quiet and be steady as possible.
Yeah, can you blame him?
And just exhaustion, you know?
Yeah.
We shoot till like...
We shoot till three, four.
The wee hours of the morning.
The thing too is, this guy really is an artist
with that camera in terms of using natural light.
You're out there painting.
I've never seen someone use the lack of light
so artfully.
That's very true.
Actually, for this series,
if you recall on Unsolved,
people bent over backwards to make these thumbnails
on YouTube for the episodes.
When I do Puppet History,
I spend a lot of time on those thumbnails.
And then when we were stewing on what to do
for the thumbnails for this series,
we were like, oh, what are we gonna do?
Is this some Photoshop ----?
And then we were like,
why don't we just pick one of the many, many,
many beautiful compositions from Mark
throughout the episodes?
It does take an instinct when you're shooting unscripted
to kind of figure out like,
all right, what do I need to put in the frame
so that it tells the story?
And I think he's really good at that.
Yeah.
Are you okay?
I was powering through.
He's getting emotional.
I was, you know what?
I wasn't powering through a burp.
I was just thinking of some of those shots.
Yeah, they're stunning.
Thank you.
There's one shot where we were investigating the REM pod
and then he panned over from me to the REM pod
and I was...
He lost it.
He's pissed off.
I think that's it.
Mark, it's time for you to go.
Okay, thank you.
Bye.
Get out of here.
Scram.
And finally, it's time for our last section.
Qua.
It's still just Q and A.
Qua.
Qua is when we hear from you.
That's right.
The Qua Squad.
That's right.
When we say qua, you all at home
could start qua-ing back at us.
Like, qua, qua, qua, qua.
Anyways, let's get into our first qua.
I got one from Patreon.
This is from Ikra Jangir.
Ryan was right.
Alcatraz Prison is a level on Call of Duty.
One of my favorites.
That's right.
It's Rebirth Island.
I don't know how I didn't realize that.
Actually, it's funny because when I first got on the island,
I was scared of the place,
but there was like this just feeling.
It's kind of like when you have the feeling of deja vu.
It's like, oh, I've been here before.
In fact, when I walked onto the island,
I was instinctually walking a certain direction
to a nook and cranny under a bridge
that for some reason I knew existed.
And when I got there, I kind of had my mind broke
because I was looking and I was like, why am I over here?
And I realized it's because I was going to where
usually there's an ammo crate in Call of Duty.
I bet it was pretty similar to when I played Skyrim
in VR for the first time.
And I was like, I was in Whiterun
and I was like, I know this place.
But I mean, this is like a real place though.
I was looking at some of the beautiful cinematography
from this episode and there's a shot of the island
as we're approaching.
It's gorgeous.
But one of the things that blew me away is
I've always thought the island was somewhat small.
When you're on it.
It feels huge.
It feels enormous.
Scale.
It's ******* huge.
Hey man, if the only scale you have something
to compare it against is the ocean.
Yeah, it's going to look small.
Yeah.
Then you get on and you're like, whoa, ocean big.
Hey, heads up.
The ocean is the biggest thing on earth.
All right.
Let's do another one from Patreon.
They're our patrons.
Yeah, let's go to another one from Patreon corner.
Oh, this is good.
This comes from Danielle Bergman.
How sensitive is the REM pod?
Can insects or dust set it off?
PS the Estus spirit box sessions are my new favorite thing.
Funniest bit.
And I would love to see an Alcatraz sink.
And I would love to see an Alcatraz sink guest appearance
if Puppet History ever does anything involving Alcatraz.
LOL.
It's a little sink.
It's not a bit.
Little sink puppet.
We appreciate your support.
Thank you.
Danielle.
We appreciate it.
The Estus method is not a bit.
No, it's very scientific.
Yeah.
I just sounded like Shane.
It is scientific.
What the ****?
You know, the thing is.
Unbelievable.
Are you mad or not?
I can't tell what your emotions are.
I can't even tell anymore.
What day is it?
What was the question?
The question was about.
A bug or dust.
Oh yeah, so the REM pod actually has sensitivity settings.
It's like, I believe there's four different settings
and you can have it.
Does it got bug detection?
No bugs.
Bugs can't set it off.
Are you sure?
Pretty sure.
We gotta test this.
Can we test this at some point this week?
Can we get some worms?
I mean, maybe it was a really junk,
a really, really ******* chunky bug.
What if a big worm fell on it?
Yeah, okay.
If a big worm, why would a worm fall on it?
Why wouldn't it?
The sensitivity setting basically extends
the range of the pod.
Yeah.
The circle.
And if, so I haven't seen a bug set it off.
I do know that, you know, if you put a cell phone near it,
anything that has, you know,
emits minor radio waves will set it off.
So like, that's why we try not to put any equipment near it.
But yeah, whenever I put the REM pod down, I reset it,
put it at REM.
There's like a thing where you can zero it out,
so it goes to base level.
And then you just let it sit for a second,
so it could acclimate to the environment,
so you don't get false readings.
And then you conduct your investigation.
I'll grab a qual from YouTube.
Bowl of oatmeal.
Says, will Shane go a full episode
without trying to start a fight with the ghosts?
Do I do that all the time?
You do try and, you do accost every ghost
that we encounter.
I try a variety of methods.
I swear, your honor.
Hang on now.
I try a variety of methods.
Sometimes I'm respectful.
Sometimes you gotta, you know, key it up a little bit
and get feisty with them.
You insult them, you respect them, you run the gamut.
I'm very thorough, you know?
Will there be an episode where you don't do that?
I honestly don't, I don't remember.
There was a brief moment in Unsolved
where it was the season of respecting ghosts.
Yeah, I did a good job at that.
This is the series of respecting ghosts.
I think I have been more respectful
on this series by and large.
You've tried.
There is a moment later in Chicago when I-
Shane has a very unfortunate incident on camera
in one of the episodes this season.
Well, we'll talk about it then.
All right, let's go to Amateur Owl from Twitter Town.
Question for the team.
Do you feel the presence of camera crews
can affect the reliability of ghost evidence?
Or do you feel it is no different
whether there's just one person or a whole team?
I think it doesn't matter.
As long as everybody's on the same page
about what you do and don't do,
it doesn't negatively affect things.
In fact, it actually adds more possibilities
for you to catch something in the terms
of how many cameras and people and eyes you could have.
Also, our boot crew is very subdued.
Yeah.
You know, they're not setting off alarm bells
for the ghosts.
They're not out here being like,
chugga-chugga-chugga-chugga-chugga-chugga-chugga.
Yeah, it's also really helpful, too,
because if something happens,
the first thing I usually will ask,
and this usually gets cut out of the episode,
is was that anybody on the crew?
And until we hear everyone say no,
then we move forward.
But honestly, we're lucky that we get
to go to these places alone,
because when it comes to other paranormal investigations,
a lot of the times it's on a bigger tour,
or you don't have the location locked down
like we are able to do.
So, no, I don't think it affects the investigation.
Okay, that's enough quads for this episode,
and that wraps up our investigation of Alcatraz.
Thank you so much for tuning into
that episode of Ghost Files,
as well as tuning into this episode
of Ghost Files Debrief.
Make sure you watch the episode of Ghost Files
this Friday and submit your questions on Patreon,
YouTube, Twitter, or Instagram,
and maybe you'll be on that next episode of Debrief.
And this next episode, we're going to St. Ignatius.
A very horrible place.
