Walking Boots Disintegrate On Crib Goch
I'm just on Cribgoth North Ridge, leading Chris. It's pretty windy and wet.
I've actually disintegrated.
Like, this was just flapping off the bottom of his boot.
We've just pulled it off completely because there's no point to it.
And the other boot is on its way out as well.
Yeah, so that's coming off the same.
That's still solid, but there's no grip.
It's just, like, oily.
So, that is bizarre because we're now on this part of the North Ridge.
I imagine anyone who's done it will recognise it.
And I'm leading someone who's got no grips on their boots.
Let's think about this.
We're on the scree slope of the North Ridge, heading down again,
because, obviously, when your boots have disintegrated,
there's no option but to try and get off the mountain.
Second one's going now as well.
Look at that.
It must be this foam stuff.
Yeah, this foam stuff is just, like, you can just break it off.
Every time he steps, a bit more comes off.
It's getting worse, but it's still rigid.
So, let's make the most of you still having something on your feet.
So, you're not going down in a pair of socks.
I've never dealt with boots just coming apart before.
That's not something you think is going to happen.
Chris says his boots are 13 years old, so everything has a shelf life.
Yeah, make sure you get new boots before your soles break off.
Especially if it happens on Crib Gough, in the wind and the rain.
Not the best place to run out of footwear.
As I say, we're still a long way from the cars at the moment,
so we've got a long, careful trek down.
It's number two on its way out.
The vehicle's a very long way away still.
Plenty of obstacles to go yet.
