You wanna go get some trees?
You ready?
Are you ready Jeff?
I am ready.
Ryan, you're in my seat.
Scoot over.
You wanna get some trees?
So many trees.
You ready nine nine?
Let's do it.
How about that automatic gate opener?
Closer.
He's right there.
He just got out.
Thanks Jeff.
65 trees in the bed of our pickup truck.
It's comical.
We're gonna drive real slow.
Make sure we don't lose any.
We made it back from Parkland with all 65 trees.
Huge shout out to the kind people at Parkland for helping us stuff the bed of our truck
so that things didn't fall out on the drive back.
Anyway, now we're gonna take all these out
and then we're gonna take all the ones we already have
and we're gonna organize them into the same kinds
and then start to figure out where on the berm we're gonna plant this.
Like how we're gonna organize them and space them out.
This is very exciting.
So as you can imagine, with having 51 trees here
we did have some lost because they haven't gotten the ground yet.
So these I got at a major discount because they were mostly dead when I got them
and he was like, they probably won't survive.
And I was like, I'll nurse them back together.
No, they're dead.
And then that's dead.
These are all new starts that I just got from someone
and they're desert willows so I know that they're gonna come back.
They just aren't ready to plant yet.
And this is also our loss.
We replaced all of the dead ones and this is what we're left with.
Our own tiny nursery of trees.
Nine, did you get it?
Nine, come here.
Did you get it?
Alright, we hit a small snag.
Small snafu. Is that the word?
Oh, snafu. I like the snafu.
Okay, our original plan for the berm, as you might remember
was supposed to go from corner to corner through the animal paddock.
Right.
So we didn't do that and that shortened the length of the berm
which we didn't realize how much it shortened.
Yeah, in our minds this whole time we've been talking about a 600 foot berm and swale
and so we've got about 100 trees and we're like doing the math
and we're like every 6 feet-ish.
We got the measuring tape out and measured the berm
and it's not even 400 feet.
And I think it's because we took out a pretty good chunk for the culvert.
We've got this area over here near the solar shed that's not super usable.
The spillway.
The spillway and we didn't go all the way to the corner.
So now we have 100 trees and only 360 something feet of berm and swale.
So we're trying to figure out what to do.
So we just called Rudy and he's going to help us figure out spacing
based on how big the different trees will get and how much water they need.
Also, let's talk about the trees we got because we definitely expanded
our variety.
Because we had like 2 pines and a eucalyptus.
And that was it.
And now we have all these other ones and it's very exciting.
Can I read it?
Yeah.
Okay, can I read the quantity?
Yeah.
We have 2 male mulberries.
We have 4 red mulberries.
4 white mulberries.
12 cypress.
10 hackberry.
25 eucalyptus.
15 honey locust.
26 elkadier pine.
5, how did you say that one?
Chast?
Chase.
Why did I say chast?
I don't know.
5 chaste and 4 desert willows.
Yeah.
We were going to try to get some mesquite but they were out.
Yeah.
We didn't have any.
And then I really wanted a mimosa.
But they were $55.
And that wasn't the problem.
The problem was that we couldn't fit it in the truck.
Because did you see the truck?
It was packed full.
Multilayers.
And that one was so tall they were going to have to lay it down and there was nowhere to lay it down.
So we'll get back to that eventually.
I would love to have a mimosa tree.
Maybe that goes in the cactus garden.
That's a really good cactus garden plant.
Okay, so our problem now is we don't know, we have some options.
We could tightly plant on the berm knowing that when they get too big and they need more room, we could cut them down.
Use them for mulch, firewood, whatever.
Cut certain ones down.
Yeah, like in between where the other ones need to grow.
Or we could plant some other places.
We could.
I just don't want to get into that because I'd rather them be on a berm and we don't have the other berms yet.
We're not ready to do the other berms yet.
That's the problem.
And the further away they are from the watering source.
The more difficult they are to water.
Yeah.
It's going to be easy for us to irrigate this one because it's right next to the water pump.
We can hook it up easy and then just let it go.
But anything further down the line is going to be real tricky.
Yeah, so we have a few things we've got to figure out tonight.
But we will figure that out and then let you know what we decide.
You're just going to have to watch the next video to see what happens.
Sorry.
This is like cliffhanger episodes because we always get to a point where it's like, oh crap, what are we going to do now?
And then we have to take a minute and figure it out.
So we're going to take a minute and figure it out.
And we'll see you next time.
Oh.
