Today on Aikido Flow we are looking at ground techniques in Aikido. You might be thinking the
same thing as I do right now. There are no bloody ground techniques in Aikido. But we're gonna have
to look at this today. Hey guys, this is Andre from Aikido Flow. Welcome back to our show and
today we are looking at ground techniques in Aikido. We really haven't been properly taught
what to do when we get on the ground and the chances are when you get into a real fight
you might end up on the ground. If you think you're an invincible Aikido guy that never gets
on the ground, forget about it. That's not gonna happen. Someone might be behind you
and then what are you gonna do? So let's look into this today. So the first thing that we're
gonna look into is if there is any sort of obstacle behind you, you haven't actually
seen it, you trip over and the other person is trying to get on top of you. So if I can ask you
for help. So we've got James, he's our obstacle in here. So we're gonna get into wrestling,
your technique didn't work or something. He's trying to get on top of you and he trips you over
and he didn't see it and what he's trying to do is just use your legs as a place to kick out
and then he's trying to stand up. So that's the first thing. If you can't stand up, stand up.
So the second scenario which is gonna you know sort of stage you from the ground.
So let's say you're already on the ground, you tripped over and then he's trying to get on top
of you. So I'm just gonna show you a little sort of what you can actually do how to not get just
the guy on top of you just punching like that. So if I can ask Azu, so we're here. When I'm
tripping down, I'll try to get one of the knees in all right because if the knee is not there,
he's absolutely on top of me and he's just gonna kill me right. So I'm gonna try to get this here
which gives me at least some kind of space that I can create. So if he's punching, I'm covering my
face all right and I'm actually able to move a little bit. So get here if you manage to check
the arm, great. Get one of the legs up, trip him down and then create the arm lock in here okay.
So the next thing really is when you're in the situation where there is one-to-one
and you just want to perform, you've got many different arm locks.
Probably just gonna show you one in here. So this is kind of an easy thing that you can do.
So get to this again, you know you've missed the kicking, got one knee in here. Now I'm gonna try
to trap his arm in here and then keep this as a protection just in case he takes it out and
tries to punch me and I'm gonna go for this like if I was performing Ikkyo or Nikkyo and I'm just
gonna turn my whole body into this here and then get it up here and use the arm as a lock. Now if
he tries to stand up, I'm just gonna put my back into it. I'm gonna roll onto one side okay.
This is safe, this is safe all right. We are fine in here. So thanks for watching
and thank you for all your comments. My recommendations for this week are in the show
notes below. There are two different links in there. First one is from Believe it or Not,
Aikido guys. They are actually showing some very good arm locking and leg locking techniques that
can be used. So I find it really great. The second one is the reality check. It's actually a
MMA fight and you actually see the reality of what really is going to happen
when you get on the ground. Those guys are really punching each other hard in the face.
So my name is Andre and this is Aikido Flow.
