Climbing nuts tested to destruction in real rock. Watch us do our first tests of passive climbing protection in some bomber granite. We tested a Black Diamond Micro Stopper, some BD stoppers and an older Wild country nut. Let us know if you want to see more tests of passive climbing protection.
Trying to keep this family-friendly guys
We're gonna bust some nuts in this crack in real rock and not in the slack lab
Just like we realized we needed to do the moment. We shouldn't broke a few in the slack snap lab
Yeah, we're gonna find out if it comes out of the rock before the wires break stay tuned
Hi, I'm Ryan jinx and I I'm on the big island of Hawaii and today we are going to test
Micro not we're gonna start with this little guy and I'm gonna place it here so you can see
judge my placement and we'll just kind of see what fits in this crack and just go from there and let the
Rock tell us what to do where the rock whispers today instead of trying to just test micro nuts or just try to test the big
ones
Wood whip good luck getting that one out when we're done
So we go from our nut to our line scale to we have a bolt to catch it and then our M
Steel thing goes to a redirect nine to one and then we just multiply it as much as we need
So let's get pulling go for it
Wow, that's pretty impressive for a micro nut already adding the super multiplier
Guess the force
What do you think it is?
Nine, yeah, you guessed high this time. Oh
That's some hairy wire
That is a good placement. Hopefully it's uh, I can get that out that would hold a whipper a whippers about six
Yeah, I would whip super happy
I got this out a little hammering a little nut tool and it looks like we got a six kilonewton MBS and then nine
Kilonewton result, so that's pretty awesome. Yeah, that's super super good for her. Maybe we can place a marginal one now
Yeah, so here we're gonna do a number four stopper. That's six kilonewtons and
Not a brassy. I'm gonna place it in the same placement this time
I'm not gonna place it in as deep just kind of like, you know sits right there and then we'll use some of these
bigger cracks down here for
Some of the bigger ones we've got
Holy cow
Whoo, this is interesting
This was an interesting result at seven point one three kilonewtons. I don't know what that fuzz is
Doing I don't know where that came from. So it is rated for six kilonewtons
And it gave us seven so super good enough, but less than a brassy. I cannot believe it
You guys discovering?
that
in the middle of
this
Wire we broke
My guess is it's probably what they start the braid with and then they wrap around it
But then again, that is just completely pulling that out of my ass. So so we got the nut out it
basically broke at the top where the wire takes that sharp bend and
And that's all scratched up, so here's our next placement with a
10-kilonewton MBS sitting in there nice and pretty. Yep. You're at half a kilonewton and catchers good. I
hear
Buddy that was violent. Is that what happened?
hold
Hold on. Hold on. I thought peak was on
Damn it, but that's not even interesting compared to what happened. Oh
No way
So inside let's start with this inside the wire bounced back through the head
It came off and out or whatever and then the shock from this
So if this was the hole
Where's the?
It's it snapped the head it didn't pull the bolt out
Yeah, this failed second, so you're really good at guessing forces since we didn't have peak for gosh
So that fell to me probably like, you know around 17 to 20 kilonewtons. So it's probably a little lower
Probably
13 to 15 with the redirect I would say that's probably accurate you're cranking and it's a 10 kilonewton MBS and what's interesting?
so the bend up here is less of an issue than the bend around the carabiner and
This wire doesn't seem to have any fuzz in it. Okay. So here's our next nut placement
What makes this different is it goes around the corner but pull direct since we don't really want to do the redirect method anymore
And I'm gonna stand above this to try to capture this and we have our slo-mo so let's find out what the big nut does
That is just intensely scary
Standing right next to it
9.6 kilonewtons is interesting and that the wire broke where the carabiner was
I just can't imagine that nut coming out of such a tight constriction
But I was imagining this to be
Stronger so there is a brand Wild Country Rock number eight and scratched up but in pretty good shape
other than the fact that it's
Broken, look what I got out. That was a pain
super chewed up this is interesting just how wires work and
yeah, how stoppers interact with the rock and the creaking and the noises that happen there's a lot that uh
Kind of hard to portray in the videos on what's happening
just when you put such high forces on stuff and we're learning a lot about vector forces and the fact that when you go through a
redirect that
We believe that the redirect has seen a lot more force
So the angle we are working with is a little bit more than 90. We don't think it was more than 120. So
Yeah, it's a seen a lot of a lot of force. Apparently. I'm super grateful to have Mike and Bobby help today
It's super grateful for the donations. We get including this gear the money that comes in keeps the channel going and
A lot of these ideas come from the requests you put in the comments
So, please leave comments hit the like button trying to get to 100,000 subscribers
hit the subscribe button doesn't cost you anything and
Yeah, go to slackline.com. We got lots of stuff on there
the shop page has affiliate links and discounts on a lot of gear and
Done breaking stuff and building the drop tower. We're gonna put a lot more stuff on there
It's gonna actually be built up pretty good
Hapa designs is doing our t-shirts that'll be on there
If you have designs you want to put on the shop page that are like cool climbing shirts or slackline shirts
Hit us up and we'll add that to the list
Don't really make much of anything on shirts. So it doesn't really support the channel
We just know you guys like swag. So we want to make it available. We did do a other video on
Breaking nuts and our slow pull test machine the slacks net machine back into the lab and we're pretty much similar results
I think these interacted with the rock really?
Well, let us know what else you want to see and we'll see you next time Cheers
one last fun fact is these are black diamond stoppers stoppers is the name of their nuts and
Doug Robinson and Tom Frost were working on this new clean climbing
design of these nuts and
this is pretty much what they were and
I'm not exactly on the big island of Hawaii
Doug Robinson lives within five minutes of here and he'd actually be helping us today if he wasn't worried about
the forest fire
Threatening his house
So, you know fires are pretty prevalent this time of year. It was pretty cool hanging out with them yesterday
We are going to have out or already have out
an interview with him talking about just the history of clean climbing and
He was a big proponent of it and he's just done tons and tons of stuff
So super OG super cool interview and it's pretty cool to be breaking stoppers
Just around the corner from where he's at
So if you want to see more of Doug Robinson in other videos
He might come down to with the slack lab in Lodi and break some stuff with us. That'll be cool, too
Anyways, here's the real ending. Thanks for watching
