Eberle pushes it ahead. Here is McDavid. McDavid trying to split the defense. McDavid, what a play,
what a goal. The owners with a 2-1 lead on a spectacular standing ovation here at Rexall.
Wow, is all I can say is absolutely wow. This is, I've got no words, I've got nothing.
Connor McDavid's first goal since October the 23rd. McDavid's going to take off. They're still
shorthanded. McDavid's just skimming with his first goal with a Stanley. And he's taking this
one to the net. Just a good hard clean shot that he gets through. Doesn't try and beat the defender,
uses that shot, and what a goal for the youngster. His first in the Stanley Cup
playoffs. A huge one for his team. Connor McDavid is looking for his first career
shootout goal with speed. McDavid upstairs. He scores.
Wow. How'd you like to have this coming down on you? What speed did he come in with? You think
he's going to slow down? He doesn't. And the quick hands, I think, handcuffed. Here's McDavid.
Wideman is back. McDavid to the net. No call at one end and a penalty shot at the other.
He's got two points tonight. A goal and an assist. Here's Connor McDavid
on a penalty shot. Connor McDavid's second goal of the game. Well, deception is the key here.
Changing up the speed, the quick stop, the quick hands. And for Elliott, he forced the play early
on. He got down on his knees, tried to take away the five hole and a presence of mind.
The boards didn't get it out. Scores. Turned on a dime and tied the game 3-3.
Got it through. Blocked bravely in front of the goal by Chris Russell. Who else? And here goes
McDavid. On a break. McDavid turns on the Jets and the owners tie the game at one.
And Jordan Eberle quickly recognized McDavid was away. And similar to the penalty shot
in Edmonton on Wednesday, although that went to the forehand. But
when he goes to the backhand, he's able to elevate that just over the pad of Brian Elliott.
And not many people can do that. Ryan Kessler. The speed of this game is picked up. What a pass.
Kessler to McDavid. What a move. Yikes. There's a million dollar move. Yeah, Kessler with the
perfect pass. Jets earlier on a turnover, walked in and just got a little pressure that Bobrovsky,
you can see him even reaching behind. But this is what McDavid does so well. That open ice
jumps in and he read that. You could see he was just going to stop up and he read the
aggressive move with the poke check by Bobrovsky and did a little toe pick but got the puck.
From the same spot as last game against L.A. McDavid will have his opportunities. He drives
it in. McDavid backhand upstairs scores. Drake Kajula gets the puck. Deja vu all over again. Rings
it off the post. And then it goes back in the neutral zone. A lackadaisical change. And there's
Connor McDavid. You give that kid that much ice, forget it. It's all over as he walks in.
One, two, three, four, five. And then backhand up high. Yakubov. Nice little bounce pass to
Pouliot. Moving in with McDavid. Pouliot to McDavid. McDavid! Oh, what a move! What a goal!
Nothing orders. Connor McDavid's behind the goal line. Now he's going to move up. Watch the little
screen he makes right here. Little pick. That creates space. And then he loses his man.
And what a great finish. Terrific pass but a world-class finish. Really smart play by
Connor McDavid. Off the puck and then to get himself available. Now the other matchup.
As Goldobin looks for his second of the game but it's stolen now by McDavid. Three on two.
McDavid to dry saddle. And in front! Kajula scores and there's Connor McDavid. 100 points.
The champ is starting to go up. MVP. And if he's not then there's something wrong in the world.
The pass across the big speed. The tip in. Drake Kajula smart. Look at the speed of Connor McDavid.
And as Louis Dubois talked about always with the head up looking trying to find the next play.
He's able to make it. The celebration by Connor McDavid. Don't tell me that kid didn't want to
get 100 points with that celebration on a 5-1 goal. Making his way slowly to the bench.
McDavid trying to get around Oduya. Keeps it in. Let's the shot go! Scores! Cutting through the
was Connor McDavid. Once again good work down low. Turnover this time but it's a shot towards
the net. Connor McDavid works off the boards. Gets his stick out. Bang. Tips it. Passed.
Kari Lednon and in his third NHL game just like Sidney Crosby. Just like Wayne Bresnan we showed
you. Connor McDavid gets his first NHL goal. 12-18 the time of the goal.
And finds the top corner. Edmonton leads 1-0.
David just fantastic hands. Here's Buckland up the wall. He's trying to chip to himself but
doesn't get enough. Zekra keeps it in. Turns around. Eberle's just going to drop it and
McDavid just patience comes in. Makes no mistake as he rips that pass Hellebuck
and the Edmonton Oilers have a 1-0 lead. Goodbye Talbot. Back the other way. Here
comes Connor McDavid. Cutters. It's on the season. The first goal here tonight.
Happy starts though with a save. Can't tell but big save and then Connor just takes off
and if you're shoulder to shoulder with him even if you're a step ahead of him he's going to get
by you. The big save and then just exit the zone quickly. Nice little out pass. A touch pass over
to Connor McDavid and he's gone. Left bomb with a shot that one goes wide. McDavid on the far side
his stick is broken and he has to get a new one. Carolina changing. Oilers take advantage. Here
comes McDavid. Cutting for the net. McDavid scores. Connor McDavid. A new stick pays off
right away with his 18th goal of the year and we are tied at one. Just go get one. Stick breaks.
He snaps it on his own. Gets one. Standing there waiting for it. Then he sneaks in behind on a bad
change by the, not really a bad change, a change that the puck doesn't get deep. He breaks it on
his own. He's mad. Snaps it. He knows this is kind of ticked off. Give me my stick. Okay now
I'll take care of everything. Gets the new stick as you called partner. Wipes off the check. Defends
the puck. Protects the puck. Builds the wall against Elias Lindholm. It's won by the Sabres.
Reinhardt out of the box. Eichel with the puck. Jack Eichel. Drop pass on the backhand and that
one missed. Quickly back the other way. Connor McDavid. McDavid cutting for the net. His backhand.
Scores. Connor McDavid. Overtime winner. Jack Eichel loses the draw but then he does the job
to get it out of his own. Really nice. Now it's a two on two. Eichel makes the move. Stops. Cuts back.
Wide backhand on the spin shot. Here comes Connor McDavid. He picks up and he goes I'll do it myself.
Walks in. Backhand. Beats Robin Lehner and gets the game winner. The Oiners win 2-1.
From the net cam. There's the glove. The puck is in the glove. You can see the puck in the glove
through the webbing. That's a goal. There it is. Right there. That is a goal in the National Hockey League.
Connor McDavid with the move. You saw the glove in the way or the puck in the webbing of the glove.
Gets it to center. Lucic. Fends off Bozak. Outlet pass to McDavid. Speeding in. Here is Connor McDavid.
Upstairs. He scores. It's a 4-2 game as McDavid's got 11 goals on the season.
Made him so close tonight because if he gets this kind of space, forget it. Comes back to the puck
and then he's in. All he needs, Connor McDavid, is a step. If you're shoulder-to-shoulder with him,
forget it. He's got you and nobody's going to pick up Connor McDavid. What a beautiful finish
on Frederick Anderson. Milan Lucic who takes the long lead pass. Gets it to McDavid.
Oh wow. Looked like he was going around the net but I think he put it in
up off the stick of Markstrom to make it 2-1. And McDavid always has his head up, head up,
head up and he can see Markstrom's guessing. And as soon as Markstrom goes down to play the pass,
then McDavid just slides it in short sight. Markstrom's guessing pass. The paddle down,
he's guessing pass and McDavid. It's Talbot. Stages up there. Here's Furland.
Trying to walk into the corner but he's turned it over and back the other way comes McDavid.
McDavid cuts in. More McDavid magic on opening night. Picks the puck up deep in the zone and
he literally goes straight down the ice and says try and cut me off. Not a chance. And to be able
to make that play under speed, under pressure, he knows he's going to get touched here. The
sticks are coming and he just puts it upstairs on Mike Smith who's been ready.
