Huge day on the homestead, friends! Our first rainwater catchment tanks are delivered, and we somehow manage to install our first gutters and connect it before the next monsoon. Fingers crossed it'll rain soon!

It's here. Our water tanks have arrived. Three and three quarters. That way you won't forget.
And you want to get these these hairs off the edges. But look how thick that is. And if you'll
look inside that tank, there's no light coming through that. There's a light from the lid.
It's open. That's the only light that's coming in at the other end. There's a little bag of
screws that comes with it. You take this off. Line up the holes in the gasket with the holes
on the flange. Okay. And put that in like that. Then take these screws out. Put them into your
phillips head. And it's got these six stainless steel screws. Once it starts to bulge, that
stops drilling. Otherwise you deform this plastic flange. And you're putting more pressure than you
need. Once you see that start to bulge, stop drilling. It comes with this screen.
And it fits nice in here. Keeps the bugs out. But this will eventually clog up over time.
From that same dusty water. We talked about the muddy water. Or if anything floats on the surface
that got through the primary basket strainer. Or if scum forms on your surface, it'll clog this up
really quick. So I don't like these. So you can do with that whatever you want to do with it. If
you think you can figure out something. I will use that. These are made in Australia. So this
is metric. So it comes with these adapters that fits in there. I don't glue anything because it's
such a nice fit. It's just fine without glue. This white adapter is if you want to use schedule 20
three inch pipe. The thin wall. This is for thin wall. If you want to use schedule 40,
slide this white adapter out of here and you can schedule. Like if you wanted to pipe your overflow
down and go out somewhere with a three inch pipe. It'll do it or thin wall or heavy the schedule 40
pipe. Okay so that goes in there like that. And this is the mozzie stop. Like I said these are
made in Australia. Mozzie is Australian for mosquito. So on that just go keep the white
adapter on there. And it goes on there like that. And then when the water pushes against it,
it overflows and the gravity closes it. So it's an overflow that'll never clog up. You never have
to worry about it. It'll always work. But yet it keeps the bugs out. It also helps the tank breathe.
So when you're pulling water out, air can go in. And when water is going into the tank,
air can go out. So that's another reason why you don't necessarily want to seal up that
where the downspout goes into. Just leave it open for air. And now these are the basket strainers.
One's for the other tank. So you can set that in there. Yeah and it just showed up.
The two cases of them showed up. So you don't put them in like this.
So you're going flat. There's a little lip here on the bottom of the threads. Yeah. And it just
sits on that lip. It's real solid. And then when you want to pull it out, it's a pretty tight fit
on purpose so it doesn't fall through. But if you pull on one side with your hand and then pull up
on the other side, you can get it out. Or get a flathead screwdriver and go in there and pry it
out. But I find if I pull on one side to get it this way and then pull up on the other side,
it'll come out. You want to check those at least a couple times a year. Like we said, even dust and
water makes mud and that'll clog that up. This is a 20 mesh screen, meaning that there's 20 wires
per inch in both directions. So it's a pretty flat. Mosquitoes, nothing can get through that.
Things happened. Guys, it's day 155. As you saw, we have our first water tank here for the chicken
garden. Our first. So it's not our first water storage tank, but it's our first rainwater
catchment tank. Yeah. So we do have another storage tank that we have all of our water
that goes to the airstream in that we just haul in water. But this is going to be hooked up to
the gutters here on the chicken garden roof. And we could not be more excited. We've been
planning rainwater catchment for like two years. This is the first one. It just hasn't, it hasn't
made sense to do it quite yet based on other things we're doing and, you know, not having a
lot of roofs and, but now we have a roof. And so this is going to be our first test for rainwater
catchment. Yeah. We're not going to be hooking it up today. No, I wish. But what we need to do is go
ahead and work on the plaster back here behind it so that it's kind of done that way. We have
plenty of room back here to do all the plumbing and things we need to do. Yeah, because we are
going to be setting up a little mini solar powered water pump and even small power system because we
might be powering some things inside the coop. So we've got to put panels on the roof. Like it's a
whole thing. But yeah, like you said, let's focus on this final plaster here and then maybe later
today we'll go get gutters. Oh, that would be very exciting. I would be so happy. Yeah. Let's do it.
Okay. Well, if we have time, if we have time, we'll see. But for now, gosh, we keep getting ahead of
ourselves. Okay. Plaster. That's what we're doing today. That's what we're focusing on.
Final plaster back of the wall. Let's go.
Okay. Now we're going back to the final plaster, which means I got to take all this down,
put up the new sifter, move everything. Are we officially done with this? I think so. Are we
done? I'm pretty sure. Okay. All right. Good thing.
Workstation 2.0. We now have a tilted trash can to store the superfine mix.
Cement over on this side. The mixer is actually up on a sand hill. So we're able to dig out
and the wheelbarrow should just slide right in there without having to like
hold it up at a weird angle just to make it work. Sifting station behind.
We'll see if it's any better.
This humidity is wearing us out. It's not that bad, but we're just not used to it. It's not even
that hot, but we're all like, everybody's dripping sweat. I don't know. We used to live
in Tennessee. We were used to the humidity and now we're pansies. In Tennessee, we never like
worked. Kind of just sat around inside. That is true. That's a good point. Yeah.
That was a previous life that we lived. I worked in the garage. That's true.
Okay. So we're taking a break because we're all hot and having a snack and a drink. Nine.
And I didn't go. Nine. Some of us. And then we'll get back to it.
And there couldn't be a better taste after everything I faced.
Send a little luck my way. Send a little bright sun ray to hit my skin.
A dream that I cannot erase. Keep it in a little case.
Truth be told is I've never felt better. And if I'm honest with myself, I am so glad we're
this new state of mind that I've struggled to find can now be shared with you because
you showed me the light deep inside of my mind. I love you in a way that has been hard to define.
Let's go out. Let's go dance in the night. Adrenaline is pumping engines up for the flight.
And there couldn't be a better taste after everything I faced.
Send a little luck my way. Send a little bright sun ray to hit my skin.
A dream that I cannot erase. Keep it in a little case.
Truth be told is I've never felt better. And if I'm honest with myself, I am so glad we're
this new state of mind that I've struggled to find can now be shared with you because
you showed me the light. Truth be told is I've never felt better. And if I'm honest with myself,
I am so glad we're together because this new state of mind that I've struggled to find
can now be shared with you. Truth be told is I've never felt better. And if I'm honest with myself,
I am so glad we're together because this new state of mind that I've struggled to find
can now be shared with you because you showed me the light.
We made it through the wet blanket. Yeah, so humid. Well, I'm on a hill and I look way taller
than you. I do like this view. Yeah. Okay. Um, so no, don't do it. We got quite a bit done today,
huh? Yeah. I think that's kind of, I think it was about three hours and I think that's my limit
for the day of that kind of work. Unless we start switching out and like teaching other people how
to do it. I do need to teach the other kids, but they're doing other jobs. So it's like,
it's tough. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, yeah, we kind of got our groove going with the sift in the new area.
So that worked out pretty good. Yeah. I like it when you're this much taller than me. I'm going
to make you stand on something all the time. Okay. I'll just, I'll just add like three inches
to my height. Okay. So what are we doing the rest of the day? Well, I know we've got videos to edit.
We talked about maybe getting gutters. Oh, I really want to do that. Me too. But I don't
know if we have time. That's the problem. There's so many other things going on. Let's go evaluate
what we have left and we will determine whether or not this is the end of the video or not.
Yeah. Let's go find out. You ready? Yeah. So we have two different kinds of screws. We still
can't decide if we want to do white for the gutter or this brown color. So I'm going to take
them both and decide when we get there. And Ada's coming with me and there may be drinks involved.
On my mom, you had fallen for me, wish I'd seen it. Then I should have picked up all the signals
looking back still drives me crazy. When that you were by my side, knowing that I took you for
granted. Now she's on to me, selling make-believe like it's currency.
The door sweeper off the floor, but I can't control you. Jealousy.
And a fool of me. They tell me time can heal the wounded,
but what if it cuts me way too deep? Can't hide the hurt with longer sleeves.
I've been searching for your equal. Someone who dresses just like you.
Laughs at a joke the way you do. Now she's on to me, selling make-believe like it's currency.
Door sweeper off the floor, but I can't control you. Jealousy. Jealousy. Jealousy. Jealousy.
Left and right. That's a left. I need a right. No, I need a left. No, I need a right. Left.
How would that be the right? I feel really dumb right now. I can't figure this out.
This is the right. Right, but. That's the left. Oh.
You're welcome. Thanks, Chase.
We got no care for the way people stare at the dust and the dirt on our clothes.
Please remember, enjoy the show. Let's get happy before we get all dressed now.
Probably still fits like blood. And tell the band to play one more slow song.
Cause you still have all my love. Dance for the doors get closed.
Please remember, enjoy the show. Let's get high. Dance for the doors get closed.
Please remember, enjoy the show. Let's get happy before. Let's get high.
Okay, so we're trying to figure out where the gutter should sit height-wise on the fascia
for the 1-12 pitch. We're not good at math, so we're going to spray water on the roof and see
what it does. So, small problem. Our panels overlap too far on the back, which we kind of knew.
Overlap? Overhang? Is that the same thing? Same difference. Which we knew, and we kind of did it
on purpose because we didn't know how long it would be before. We had a gutter and water tank,
so we made it long so it wouldn't damage the wood. But now it's too long,
we're going to have to cut it, which is a huge pain to cut panels that long of a distance.
Also, we don't have a pneumatic nibbler. We really need a pneumatic nibbler.
Can we just say pneumatic nibbler one more time because I think that is like
the greatest name of all time. So, instead of using that, what we're going to do is flip our
blade around on our circular saw and cut the metal panels that way. Because YouTube says that's all
right. I'm a little skeptical. If YouTube says it's fine, it's fine. Uh-huh, right. We'll see
for ourselves. Don't do this at home, kids. Proper eyewear, proper ear protection. Gloves,
all that stuff. So it's actually cutting extremely smooth, but it is sending sparks up at my face
and I don't like it. So we're going to go get a bandana that I can wrap up. I probably should
have had long sleeves on. And also we're going to grab some shoes that are not flip-flops because
I have a piece of metal on my toe. It wasn't in it. It was just on my toe, but it could have been
in it. Yeah. And it's too dangerous. Do not wear flip-flops when doing this. Remember when I was
like, hey, don't go any further. Put some shoes on. And you were like, no, it's fine. Yep.
All right. So formula is for every 10 feet of gutter, it needs to drop towards the spout
half an inch. So 15 foot roof, we're going to go three quarters. So we marked three quarters
down from the top. So the gutter will get installed at the very top on that side,
and it'll drop down three quarters here. So we're going to pull a chalk line so that
when we start installing it, we're putting it in the right spot.
So we're trying this downspout. I'm not convinced it will work. We have like the
regular gutters too, but this, because it's going to rain in like 30 minutes,
I think this will be a good test to see, make sure it doesn't come out. So it's flexible,
expandable, just screw it onto the downspout and have it go right on the top of the tank.
We'll see if it works. We'll see if it works. That's just like spinning. So I'm hoping that'll
be okay. What do you think? I mean, that's... It feels sturdy. And this is like really close
to a perfect fit in the hole here. I think having these ridges will hold that in place
when the water's coming down. The potential issue is if the water undoes this accordion.
I don't think it will. It's pretty heavy duty. I don't think... We'll see.
It wouldn't take much to see how I just undid that.
Okay. We'll see. It's not going to be that much pressure of water though.
I'm so tired that I want to be really excited for this moment, but I kind of just want to go
eat a snack. I'm so... Remember when I got back from these gutters and I was like,
let's just put these on real quick. I thought 30 minutes to an hour.
I'm pretty sure it's been three or four hours. When did we start? I'm pretty sure it's been at
least three hours. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, but we got it. We learned a lot. Yeah. We learned that
just because your fascia boards are out there doesn't mean that they are
level. Now the boards, I knew the boards were warped. Those one by sixes were warped. Yeah.
Yeah. Anyway, we just, we ended up with not quite the right slope once we installed it. So we had
to sort of make some adjustments, but it was good having like the water to test it because we,
as soon as we found that right pitch, it just ran right down and it did what it was supposed to. So
everything's sealed up. We're expecting rain in about 30 minutes. And if it happens, if it does
rain, I really want to come out and video what, what happens. I mean, it'll be dark. It's all
hooked up into the tank. Like we are ready to catch our first water. Yeah. Okay. It's kind of a
big deal. If you say it loud, like we're getting ready to catch our first rainwater. Yeah. That's
a big deal. Okay. Um, so I have no idea what tomorrow is going to be or the next day or
the next day, because no idea guys, we're, we're probably about to start jumping back and forth
between the berms and the soils and this project and even the other project that's coming up very
soon. That one may not really get kicked off for a little bit. It sounds like the materials are
going to be pushed out of the materials. Yes. But there are the cement pad that we have to pour is
coming soon. Yeah. We got to, yeah. Yeah. We have a lot of work to do. So guys, we're going to cut
it short and just go get a snack. Okay. So we're crossing our fingers for some rain tonight and
we'll see you next time.
