So here we are guys picking up the wood for the flooring,
the exterior flooring as well and the window frames.
Welcome to another episode of the cabin build series,
where we are building our first house for under 4,500 euros.
Yes, you got that number right.
We will prove to you that with good design and your hands,
you can have a designer home even with a very tight budget.
In this week's video we finish cladding the exterior of the house
and build our first window.
How will it look?
Speak until the end and let us know what you think.
I'm Eugenia and this is Pepe,
Aspen and Lolita
and we are now building our new home.
We have been traveling around Europe for the past year
in our self-converted campervan
but looking to live a simpler life,
grow our own food and build our house,
let us here.
Thank you for watching, liking and subscribing.
Hi guys, new update.
We just found out that Portugal is going into lockdown tomorrow
and we rushed today to go pick up all the extra materials
that we need to finish the cabin.
So here we are guys picking up the wood for the flooring,
the exterior flooring as well and the window trims.
New day today.
We got here yesterday night with all the wood on top
and now we're gonna finish cladding this side of the wall
missing two panels
and then we will do the corner detail on top
and after that we are gonna go to the other side of the house
and probably go up to where the window is
and stop there because we need to do the window trim first
and this is all we bought yesterday.
This is the gypsum board that is special for fireplaces
and all this is the flooring that we're using in the inside.
Here we have Lolita inspecting the material also.
Lolita, how is it looking?
We continued cladding the facade with corrugated metal.
It was getting easier and easier to do as we continued gaining experience.
This was the last panel of the east facade
and we needed to cut it to length.
We used an angle grinder for that
and then painted the edges to protect it from rusting.
It is actually a very precise way to cut it
if you are able to control the grinder
but as one of you guys mentioned it in the comments of the last video
it is recommended to cut it with metal scissors.
Thank you for the tip.
Now we move to the west facade.
By this time we got a very smooth system in place.
Once we got to the side window
we went ahead and cut the weatherproofing membrane.
We do know that normally the membrane is not cut like this
but for this window we are installing a solid wood window frame
that connects the exterior with the interior.
So we are stopping the membrane on the outside
and sealing it to the wood frame with ms glue.
In order to keep the budget of the cabin low
we designed this window instead of buying a pre-made one.
It is designed to perform and look amazingly
without expending a big portion of the total budget buying one.
This is how it's looking today.
Yesterday we were able to get to up to this point
pretty much half of the window
and today we're going to keep filling these gaps with the metal cladding.
Not too sure if we are going to do this rear part
or if we are going to actually do the window.
We'll see what we design.
Here you can see the difference from the one that I just sanded
and the one that is rough without sanding.
It's way nicer once you put a little bit of work into it.
We just made this cut here so this goes underneath.
It's the seal of the window so when the water goes over here dripping
it doesn't go through, it stays there and goes down.
So this is upside down.
It's Thursday, we finished the window at night.
I'm sorry we didn't take videos of it because the light was awful
but we stayed long at night finishing the window trim and it's looking fantastic.
We're going to be building the actual window with the steel profiles like this
and the window is going to open like that.
You will see, it will look fantastic.
