It's a busy summer here at DOE. First up, the Department of Energy and the Biden Administration
released a new strategy to defend our energy system from cyber attacks. As the nation transitions to
more clean energy, we need to build a grid that's designed from the ground up to handle tomorrow's
cyber threats. And then next, we partnered with the Department of Transportation to form an
electric vehicle working group. Our Joint Office of Energy and Transportation is now looking for
folks from all corners of the EV sector who can help us steer toward a cleaner transportation
system. We also rolled out a $500 million program to bring clean energy projects to current and
former mine lands across America. And $360 million to modernize the nation's hydropower fleet.
These programs are going to help revitalize communities, they're going to make our energy
system cleaner, and they're going to create good paying jobs. And speaking of jobs, according to our
just released annual U.S. Energy and Employment Report, employment in renewable energy sectors
like solar and wind outpaced economy-wide job growth. And jobs in electric and hybrid vehicles
posted a whopping 25% increase. And lastly, I traveled to Texas to visit Lenox International,
which designed a prototype of a more efficient electric heat pump for homes in cold climates.
And then in Pittsburgh, I joined a ribbon cutting at a former Bethlehem steel plant
that is now going to produce equipment for solar panels that can track the sun.
All exciting stuff. And we'll have lots more for you next month. See you then.
