You're getting ready to freaking send it.
You're excited.
You're taking your bark.
On our way to Valmont Bike Park in Boulder.
We're going to meet Luby who is the owner and the genius behind Dirt Labs.
And we're going to talk about how to set up the bike for when you're just getting into jumping.
Intermediate level you're getting into jumping.
You're going to go to the bike park.
You're going to bring your own bike.
And you don't want to get mangled.
So we're going to talk about one very often, most often overlooked aspect of setup.
You see people who get this wrong and it's terrifying.
Because there's just this slow progression towards this crash that's in their future.
What's up?
What's happening?
Nice socks.
Sandals and socks.
Hesh.
Totally hesh.
Luby I appreciate you doing this.
Thank you.
You're an expert on suspension.
I'm gonna have trouble sleeping at night like an expert, novice.
I don't know.
All we want is for anybody watching who's getting into this.
Just make sure that you slow down that dampening.
Dampening.
It's not dampening.
Dampening.
God dammit.
As you get better, it won't matter as much.
As you spend more time jumping, it won't matter as much.
It's really for those first few days, weeks, maybe months.
Yeah, once you get so comfortable on the line, then you kind of can realize that hey,
I can hit this line in my trail setup.
Or I can hit this jump.
Definitely one that'll bite if you hit it, hit it kind of weird.
It's, you know, the wood lips kick pretty hard.
So it actually got me the first time that I did it too.
So having your suspension set up right and dialed in is really important, especially
for those wood lips.
What we're going to do is we're going to see if we can set up the suspensions.
We're set up the wrong way.
The wrong way.
And then the safe way as you're getting into jumping.
As you can see, there's a red knob and a blue knob.
Blue knobs are traditionally compression knobs.
Red is rebound on 90% of the manufacturers.
So Alex is going to go on this little little jump here and he's just going to roll it.
But on the seat, we're going to open up the rebound when I say open it up,
speed it up as fast as possible.
And we're going to watch his butt bounce off the seat.
Like it's now it's a full on pogo stick.
OK, so you're saying roll it.
So in the space of three feet, right?
Not even about two feet.
I went from here to here, right?
And in the space of four feet, my butt's here.
Six feet jump.
This is what we're trying to avoid.
The suspension loads up back here and then it releases as you're coming off.
It starts to push you over and you pass the downside.
It does not feel good.
What are we doing now?
Now we're adding as much rebound as possible, taking it to an extreme.
See how long it's taking to rebound?
We're going to turn the rebound full slow and see his body movement.
If we save just one person from going over the bars
and we keep one collarbone from being snapped, then it was all worthwhile.
So let us know what you think.
Like and subscribe and let us know what you want us to make.
And we'll keep making more and we'll see you next time on.
I forget the name of the show.
Oh yeah, over the hills.
See, see how over the hills?
Yeah.
