Are we gonna talk about some hair? Yeah!
Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel. Today's video I'm going to be sharing
with you is the entire process of me going from my black hair to this
beautiful like royal cobalt blue shade. I am so in love with my hair and I wanted
to share with you guys the process of me getting to this stage. The format in
which I thought that it would be most appropriate to share this information
with you guys would be for me to sit down and share with you and tell you,
talk you through everything I did, all the products I used, and then show you
the actual footage of me doing it step-by-step in sort of a vlog style. So
that is how I'm going to bring you this information today. Getting my hair this
color from a box black dye was quite a process and I was very impatient. So
first of all I'm gonna tell you if you do not have patience maybe go to a salon.
It did take me four entire days to get my hair like this but I think it was
totally worth it. I've been dyeing my hair black out of a box dye from a drug
store for about eight years now and in order to make my hair light enough to
put this color on top I needed to remove the dye. I did a lot of research before I
started with my hair at home because I wanted to do my hair right and I wanted
it not to you know fall off. So what I did was I googled a whole bunch of stuff
and I really focused on Guy Tang videos. He usually records videos from in his
little studio thing and what he always does is he removes the color from your
hair. So what I did I went to Sally's and I actually used this L'Oreal color
remover. I did this two times on my hair because I had so much build-up of color
I needed to remove that dye. Each one of these packets you leave on for one hour.
You only can do one if you don't have a whole bunch of dye build-up but I needed
two. These do not harm your hair whatsoever. It is not bleaching your hair
it is just removing the color. It does say on here if you are removing dark
shades of tint from level 1 to 4 you are supposed to use a 20 cream developer and
that's what I did. If you just have light hair it says that you can just mix with
warm water. After the first one my hair lightened a lot. I had my sister help me.
It was kind of like really blonde at the top and then really brassy at the bottom
so I did it a second time and it lightened a little bit more but there
wasn't a huge dramatic difference between the first time and the second
time. I do want to quickly mention it is very important to have plastic
containers and plastic I don't know brushes when you are doing this. Do not
use metal because it will react with the products you are using. At this time
I deemed myself a professional hairstylist and I wanted to move on to
bleaching my hair. I had learned that if you used a 30 volume developer, a higher
volume developer, once bleaching it's better for your hair than using a lower
multiple times so that is kind of the formula that I followed. Again I
purchased the Salon Care 30 volume developer and the powder lightener that
I purchased was the Ion Brilliance powder lightener. It's conditioning dust
free formula for on or off the scalp. There was no rhyme or reason to why I
purchased this one it was just in a purple container and it caught my eye. I
would suggest if you are bleaching a lot of hair, my hair is pretty thin and it is
about shoulder length so if you're bleaching any hair longer than mine or
even my hair just splurge and get the bucket because you're going to need a
lot of bleach. As I was bleaching my hair I started mixing up the recommended
amount in here. I had to do that again and then half again so I used like one
one and then a half. So like I said you are going to need a lot of bleach. When I
was bleaching I started from the bottom of my hair and worked my way up to the
scalp. The first time I bleached my hair my scalp was really on fire and I left
it on for about 17 minutes. At this point I just thought that my hair wasn't gonna
lift anymore so I thought let's just rinse it and then go from there. After I
washed the bleach out of my hair I decided to tone it a little bit because
it was very yellow. I mixed in a little bit of this Jerome Russell punky color
in the shade violet into a little bit of white conditioner. This is a very
purple shade and this was just to counteract some of the yellow tones in
my hair. The purple ended up going on my hair very patchy and I think it almost
darkened the ends of my hair but at this point I was just so over it because I was
at it for four or maybe five hours by now so I thought let's just go ahead and
put the blue dye on my hair. And at this point is kind of where it went downhill.
I should have just stopped, took a break, went to bed and restarted in the morning.
But I'm Bailey and I don't have patience so carrying on. The dye that I decided to
use was this Color Brilliance. This is by Ion. This is in the sky blue and it is
semi-permanent. It looked a lot darker in Sally's and this is kind of the shade
that I wanted like a very vibrant you know almost cobalt blue. So I picked this
one up because it was buy two get one free. When I started putting it on I
realized that there just was not enough dye. It did come in tubes like this and I
had put two on but once I was done the roots I pretty much used an entire one
and there just was not enough dye. So if you're thinking of using this stuff I
honestly would have I would have needed four of these to complete my entire head.
But I carried on anyway because I am a trooper and my hair was not too good
looking after. It was patchy, it was like teal, brown, blue. It was not attractive
whatsoever. I went to bed and then the next morning I decided this is not how I
want my hair to be. I'm gonna go to Sally's and start all over. What I did was picked up
two more of the color removers and I started removing the color from my hair.
I did two of these because I used one for just mainly the bottom of my hair
and then I used another for my entire head and honestly thinking back at it
after I did my first two in the beginning of this process I think I
would have done another one because I think that would have lightened my hair
enough that I wouldn't have had to bleach it again. So at this point of
having, you know, four hours of 20 developers sitting on my head and then
17 minutes of bleach and then a 30 volume developer sitting on my head, my
hair was sort of questionable. So my sister had suggested me pick up this.
This is the Apuji. It's a two-step treatment. It came in little packets, they
were sealed together. It's a two-step protein treatment and this is for
serious care and protection. It stops breakage, it rebuilds hair structure for
six weeks and it's ideal for color-treated hair. I put this on, it's a
two-step treatment. You put one on your hair, it's like a very thin liquid, you
blow-dry it, it's like solidifies your hair to like a crunchy crispy texture.
You rinse it out and then apply the second step which is a moisturizing
conditioner. Leave it on for two minutes, rinse it out and your hair is gorgeous.
My hair was all brought back to life. I think that this really saved my hair so
if you're thinking of doing any bleaching, try this out. I know a lot of
people recommended me try Opalex. Opalex? Yeah, I believe it's that but I didn't
pick it up when I was at Sally's so I went this way. At this point I thought my
hair was healthy enough to bleach it again so I sectioned off my hair and
went in with the bleach. I started out at the bottom and worked my way up. I didn't
even touch my roots because my roots were light enough, they did not need to
be bleached anymore. I left that on for about 45 minutes which is a really long
time I know but my hair just wasn't lightening and I was just getting so
frustrated. Actually I think it was about 35-40 minutes. I rinsed it out and I
almost had a mini like meltdown because the bottom of my hair was stretching.
It was very elastic-y and you know those like little rubber balls that
have all those strings on them? That was the texture of my hair at the bottom and
I was very scared for myself because I thought I lost my hair but it turns out
I didn't. After my little mini meltdown I slept in a conditioning mask. This is the
Mark Hill Mirac-oil-ish? I can't even pronounce this. Mirac-oil-ish 2-minute
intensive treatment with Moroccan argan oil and I also added in a little bit of
the punky color in violet. I put this entire thing on my head, wrapped it up
and I slept in it. Then the next morning I did another apogee treatment on my
hair because it needed to be fixed. It needed some fix-it Jesus just like
Phaedra Park says. The apogee treatment again brought my hair completely back to
life and then I went on to diet again. Now this time I was not being a fool and
I bought a Manic Panic in After Midnight. This entire thing covered my entire head
so if you are thinking of getting any hair dyes, get Manic Panic because two of
those other dyes didn't even go on my head and I don't think even a third
would have covered my entire head. Choose this because this was awesome. A little
bit went such a long way and it just spread over my hair so evenly and
beautifully. I loved it and this is honestly the exact color that I wanted.
It was just that dark rich royal blue. I just I love this color. After I rinsed my
hair I did notice I had a couple of little patches that weren't quite right
so I have a Shoppers really close to me so I just went to Shoppers and was
looking for this one again but then I found this one. I found the Jerome
Russell punky color in midnight blue and then I went over again with this just
touching up little patches. This is a little bit darker than the Manic Panic
but I think it's a beautiful color so I just touched it up and then this is my
hair. That was the process of getting my hair from black to blonde to blue. In the
end I wouldn't have bleached it twice. I wish I went back in time and did the
color removal three times instead of twice so that is my advice for you guys.
So right now I'm going to roll the footage for you guys so you guys can see
me doing it all and freaking out and you know actually having a blast doing it. It
was a learning experience for me and the mistakes that I make I hope that you
guys you know learn from and never make that mistake again. That's why I like
making mistakes because you'll never do it again. I hope you guys enjoyed and
without further ado here's the footage. Alright so I just went to Sally's and
got a bunch of stuff because I'm gonna make my hair blue so I'm gonna show you
the process of me doing this. This is my hair right now. It's so greasy, well it's
not so greasy but I mean I need a new hair style so I'm gonna be showing you
my interpretation of what I think is the most you know healthiest way to remove
black hair dye from my hair in order to bleach it in order to dye it a color
such as blue which is what I'm gonna do. How's that laptop baby? Is that comfy?
Alright the first step to this that I need to do is to remove the black hair
dye that is on my hair because I have a buildup of multiple black hair dyes. I
dye my hair roughly every eight months so you can imagine I have probably on my
end of my hair I probably have six layers of black dye on my hair so the
first thing I have to do is remove that color and what I got I picked these up
from Sally's. These are only sold to the people with holding like a pro card from
Sally's not just like the regular card but the pro card. So what this is is the
L'Oreal Classic Salon Products Efesol Color Remover. It's a gentle foaming bath
that washes away permanent hair color. Now I've heard that this stuff doesn't
necessarily ruin your actual hair it doesn't damage your hair but what I am
gonna be mixing with this because I do have a darker color on here is on here
it says for dark shades of tint from level 1 to 4 I have to mix it with a 20
volume cream developer and that is why I got this puppy right here. I got two of
these because if it doesn't work the first time I'm gonna do it again and see
if I can lift more hair color if the color does not come off the first time.
I put on a shirt I don't care about. I have a whole bunch of gloves on hand
because I don't want to be putting this stuff on my hands. I have a plastic bowl
and a plastic bowl grip tint brush. These cannot be metal because that will react
with the developer. I was directed to be getting plastic ones. I'm going to follow
the directions that are listed on the package here and mix this package of
powder with 2.5 fluid ounces of the developer and this is what this looks
like it's kind of just a blue crystallized powder and I'm just gonna
eyeball the 2.5 fluid ounces I think that's about one two and a half. I have
my blue paste mixture all mixed up here and I'm gonna be starting from the
bottom of my hair I'm working my way up to the root kind of trying to avoid my
root because my hair is grown out about this much at the top here because I
haven't dyed my hair since January I think January no February I'm not too
sure. I'm gonna begin just like working this on the bottom of my hair. All right
so I got that hair remover sitting on my hair right now my sister put it on my
scalp right here so it's lightening a lot I think that's from the developer
that is making that change a lot. One of these packets was not enough for my hair
it did pretty well on my hair but then I had to go into the second one and take a
little bit of that and kind of mix the consistency that the first package had.
Already I can see that it is lightening my hair I can tell that it's picking up
the color because when I go like this I can see like a red tinge to it and it's
like not black anymore underneath there so I'm pretty sure I can go a pretty
light color blonde because that's doing that to my natural hair color already
although it is very brassy. So it says to leave this on for an hour and that is
what I am going to do. This is what my hair looks like with the color remover
once and it did remove it from like you can't see it's too dark. I'll take you
to the bottom. Okay well this lighting isn't really any better but my hair like
this is obviously really light because this hair only had dye on it once so if
you only dyed your hair black once you can expect that and then down here it's
not black anymore it's like a weird reddy brownie gross disgusting color. So
this is how light my hair has gotten dried from one which isn't that bad but
I'm gonna do it one more time because it's really uneven you can kind of see
the layers from where I dyed it. See that in the back there? I don't even know what it looks
back there but that's how light it is. That it looks dark. Sexy. Okay so I did
another color remover hair color remover and this is what it looks like this is
how it turned out it's still kind of patchy but I think for the most part
it's taken out and it's time for some bleach on it. I would be lying if I said
that my hair was completely you know still healthy like something you can
tell that like peroxide and like whatever it's called 20 developer has
been used on it but it doesn't feel too bad it still feels nice but when it's
wet that's just another story. I haven't been washing my hair in between because
you're not supposed to so this is what it looks like. Let's bleach it. Alrighty
we're gonna bleach the hair. First time I'm ever doing this at home. So what I'm
using is the Ion Color Brilliance the powder lightener. What came in here is
the powder stuff, instructions, a little thing, a little scoopy thing, and then a
twist tie. So you're supposed to mix like 1 to 1 ratio or 1 to 2 ratio
depending on something but I don't know what that something is because it
doesn't say. So I think I'm just gonna do like a 1 to 1 ratio of this and a 30
volume developer. I heard that if you bleach it once with a higher volume
developer it'll work better than bleaching it more times with a lower
volume developer. So that's what we're gonna do. I've divided my hair into two
sections so this is my hair with my color lifted. Um yeah we're just gonna
continue on. So I have two scoops in my little matching Ion Color Brilliance
thing here and then I'm gonna I guess do the 1 to 1 ratio. Okay that looks like
about a like a third of a cup I would say. Okay I don't I don't know. This will
be good though this will be fine. I'm just gonna fix this up. Do you have a towel?
Do you need a towel? No no this is a shitty shirt. I've had this shirt yeah
forever. So I'm literally just gonna just go for it. Yeah my camera's not in focus.
I'm starting from the bottom because that's the one that needs to be lightened
the most. Gosh it's so useless to me. So then just like pick up a goblet bit and just like run it through your hair. I should. This is so hard.
Oh my god that's way too hard. This works better. No that's way better. Crafty people use your hands okay.
We actually mixed up another one of the exact same so like two scoops because I
have too much hair apparently for just two scoops and I didn't really know how
much you need or didn't need. But Brandon's helping me back there. It's
lighting pretty holy ****. This is really light already.
Well I'm getting there I'm getting there. So we're gonna let this sit. How long do
you think? Well I'll let you know. Okay well I'm gonna remove some for my scalp
though. This is it's a little messy but we got there. We should have thought it
professionals. Okay so my hair is my head is on fire and this is how much my hair
has lightened and it's like really irritating my skin probably because we
did it messy and it's like a coppery kind of color and it's been on for 17
minutes and I'm gonna rinse it off now because I don't we don't think it's
gonna lighten anymore underneath there just because of all the black dye which
is fine. So I'm just like getting ready here like a I'm gonna wash my hair with
my living proof shampoo and then mix a little bit of a violet color in with
here like a drop to tone it so hairpin it and that'll work. Alright well on
camera my hair looks crazy so I put like so much purple dye in with the
conditioner and it's like really splotchy and uneven and at this point I
just kind of like give up because I just want it to be done so I just don't have
patience for this but it's really light on camera in this artificial light I
think it's just looking really purple at the roots but it's quite light I
don't know if you can see like how really light it is cuz like all you see
is like orange and purple so anyone that's looking at my hair you're
probably thinking wow your hair is really messed up it's not too bad I
don't think it's too bad. There in this lighting you can see how light my hair
got with whatever and then I didn't show I don't think I showed you in between
the purple when my hair was all the way bleached and purple and as you can see
it was it was like a nice transition but now it's just kind of like I don't
know ugly um anyway so the color I'm gonna be dying my hair with is the color
brilliance ion this is a sky blue it's a semi-permanent color I got two of them
so hopefully it'll cover my head I'm gonna start off with one and see what
it's like it's in the color sky blue and that's the color of it so it's a lot
darker in color in person it looks like a royal blue in person it's coming off
a little light but we're just we're just gonna go for it still using a
plastic dish because well that's all I have I have one of the blue dyes in here
and I'm just gonna go for it so yeah it looks doesn't it look it looks so much
lighter you literally can't go back now no we can't that's my entire hair boil
am I even gonna have enough like I look like a blue egg on Easter I put the blue
dye on my hair I didn't have enough dye I've kind of just given up on this tour
today I'm just on here for a while the roots are really blue I don't know it's
just gonna be like teal I've given up I don't have patience for this so I'm
gonna wash it out so this is what my hair looks like I'm not sure if the Sun
is like catching it enough what I thought last night putting the blue dye
on I thought maybe it'll just have a nice ombre into teal but I ran out of
hair dye so it's not even completely covered and it's just very muddy and
brassy and this is not what I want I want it to look all like this I decided
instead of maybe doing an ombre kind of thing so what I'm going to do now oh
yeah I'm going to be I went back to Sally's I'm gonna be doing another color
remover to remove the dye that I put on I mean it's not the worst thing in the
world it doesn't look that bad especially in the Sun it looks bright
but no I have my mixture all ready to go and my hair sectioned off in sections
so I'm just gonna start from the bottom work my way up I have the color remover
sitting on my hair right now I'm about to put a bag on it but it's already
removing the color from it it's like looking very brassy and green I don't
really know what's going on back here but all right I just washed out or I
rinsed out I did not wash my hair I rinsed out and blow-dried my hair after
I used one of the color remover the L'Oreal these so this is what it looks
like and this is pretty much what my hair looks like when after I first
bleached it so what I'm going to do is I have one more package and I didn't do my
roots before because I just wanted to clean up everything else so I'm gonna
apply this on my roots now and then especially down here to really remove
you know if there is any more and then we'll be back at square one where I
should have stopped yesterday but that's why I'm filming it for you guys so you
guys can learn from my mistakes my hair feels okay still I mean feels I mean
pretty well the exact same I mean it's like a little bit stringier especially
like under here it's a little bit it feels like thicker underneath but I also
have a blunt cut so I have to keep that in mind um it's like just thicker at the
end so I'm gonna mix this up and then put it on all right it's in my hair it's
gonna work its magic I'm gonna bag it now leave it on for an hour mm-hmm I
think it's working over here this is my hair with the color remover it pretty
much took all of it off like there's a little bit left at the scalp but that's
not a really big deal so this is pretty much exactly what my hair looks like
after I bleached it yesterday so very very orange this is like too much for my
hair to handle so my sister used to always dye her hair really fun color so
she suggested I try this this is the apogee apogee apogee two-step protein
treatment it's like a two-step protein treatment that I had to put in my hair
so I'm gonna do the first step right now on my wet hair you put it on and then
you blow-dry your hair I guess so it infuses your hair with protein makes it
stronger so that's what I'm gonna do right now yeah stops hair breakage
rebuilds hair structure for six weeks I'm gonna do this because I don't know
if my hair can handle being bleached again and it has to be bleached again so
I think that this will this will make it okay there it is dry it's like crispy
this is very yellow in here but I have my hair all sectioned off very nicely I
have my bleach I have my little foils everything I need because this is gonna
be the final time I do this I got all of my hair in my little tinfoil balls here
it was a lot easier to do in these little sections that's what I should
have done the first time but I knew the first time it wasn't gonna lift all the
way so now I'm doing it the proper way I'm gonna leave this on for about half
an hour I saran wrapped it so the heat will activate the bleach better the
bleach has been on for about 35 minutes and this is how light it's gotten thus
far I mean it's a little bit lighter but it's still very very on the orange side
so I think I'm gonna let it sit just for a little while longer my hair is
actually pretty light I left the bleach on for like 45 minutes just because it
wasn't lifting and I slightly just had a mini meltdown because when I I don't
even know when I pull at the ends of my hair it kind of just snaps off and it's
like really elastic key at the very bottoms of my hair um it's not really up
here I mean I brushed my hair I was like okay well if this is gonna be the end
it's gonna be the end but I can brush my hair and start breaking off and I
thought for a second there I lost my hair which I mean I like I'm gonna have
to get it cut like for sure because it's very elastic you but right now I'm gonna
tone it with a little bit of this Mark Hill two-minute intensive treatment just
because I just I have a feeling I wrecked my hair and if I did well I'm
gonna have a short little bob I don't know I'm gonna put some of this
Jerome Russell funky color in violet in with it so then I can pull my hair so
it's not so yellow because it's very very yellow right now I have my little
toner on that I mixed up and I'm gonna wrap it in surround wrap now and then
leave it on there for probably a good half an hour this is just an intensive
treatment because I'm just oh gosh my sister said she doesn't think I wrecked
my hair so let's hope that she's right so this is my hair I left that treatment
on the conditioner and the toner on overnight and I slept with it and I just
washed my hair and it's partially dry so what I'm gonna do now because the ends
have for sure seen better days it's like completely fried at the ends but up until
about two inches it's pretty good but I obviously saw that coming because I left
the bleach on for about 40 minutes so what I'm gonna do now is another
apogee protein treatment I'm gonna do this on my hair right now before I dye
it blue and I actually picked up a midnight blue from Sally's so I'm gonna
do that instead of the dye that I was using but now it's kind of like a
gradual like ombre into whatever color you consider this to be just did my
two-part apogee treatment the first part you put in on wet hair and then you
blow-dry your hair and it creates this like crispy like layer over your hair
and then you wash that out and then put in the second part which is like a
treatment conditioner type thing and then you leave it on for two minutes so
I did that I just brush my hair my hair is really easy to brush so I think that
brought a lot of life back to my hair so it's looking pretty good looking really
good actually this is my hair do you think I'm pretty I have a cold sore I
guess from the stress of the bleach and me freaking out about my hair I haven't
had a cold sore in like two years so it's just like a mound on my face but
yeah you can see like the ends of my hair is damaged but other than that like
it's fine like up here up until like right here it's fine fine fine fine fine
and then all of a sudden no I'm gonna dye it right now I'm using where's the
dye going for it and just praying that I have enough dye I think I've used like
a quarter of this jar already and I did all of my roots and like three inches
down so I'm just praying I have enough oh my gosh oh god I love this call this
is exactly what I'm blue hair blue hair blue hair yeah and my hair is blue oh my
gosh this is like crazy how blue it is right now are you kidding me this is
insane I rinse the dye out and then put a little bit of conditioner in it and
that's all I did I didn't wash it none of that so this is my hair dry I am so
in love it's kind of patchy so I'm about to walk to shoppers to get a manic
panic in my night blue because apparently they sell out there so I'm
gonna do that and then just touch up these little bits and there's a bit back
here that's not colored all the way but so yeah this is my hair now I absolutely
love it it is a beautiful color I don't know if it's coming off as blue as it is
in real life on camera it's very very blue I move the light closer to it do
you see how blue it is it's very very royal blue exactly the color I wanted I
