Hi everyone and welcome back to another video.
My name is Jasmine from Sweet Simple Vegan and my partner Chris and I run this channel
where we share new recipes, lifestyle tips, vlogs, and everything in between every single
week and we showcase our lives as a vegan couple and we want to show you that veganism
is accessible, it is easy, and it is delicious.
So I'm going to be sharing a recipe video with you today and I'm actually going to be
making some vegan crepes which I'm really excited about.
So I've been testing these over the last couple of days and it's been a little bit of a challenge
to say the least, but I got it down finally and I think that you are going to absolutely
love these.
Crepes really bring me back to my childhood.
My aunt used to make them for all of our family get-togethers and it used to be a group effort.
We used to have an assembly line.
She would cook the crepes and then my cousins and I would assemble them.
So we used to put whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and fruit.
So that's how I'm going to serve it today.
Oh, and powdered sugar.
So I'm going to serve it pretty similarly to that because that's just how I like to
eat it.
You can serve crepes for breakfast.
You can put jam in them, more fruit, or you can even put a savory filling in these as
well because they are pretty neutral in flavor.
So for savory fillings, you can do like a tofu scramble, you can just do sauteed veggies.
I don't know.
Get creative with it.
You can even probably put vegan sausage in it.
That'll be pretty dang good.
So I'll show you guys how to make it.
It is so easy.
It's only five simple ingredients and it's ready in no time.
So let's get started.
We're starting these crepes off with some all-purpose flour and we're running this through
a sifter to make sure that there are no clumps and that the crepes are smooth.
You can also add all of these ingredients to a high-speed blender to get them smooth
as well, but today I'm just showing you how to do it in a bowl.
So once you have all of that in, we're going to add in some salt, just a pinch of salt,
and then some unsweetened plant-based milk.
If you're making sweet crepes, you can use sweetened milk or even vanilla-flavored milk,
but because we wanted to keep our batter neutral, we just used unsweetened plant milk.
Just roughly mix all of that together.
We're adding in more ingredients, so you don't need this completely smooth right now.
The next ingredient that we're adding is applesauce and you can also use banana in this, but I
chose to use applesauce because, again, I wanted to make this batter neutral so you
can do whatever you want with it and make it sweet or savory.
So just make sure to get every last bit of that applesauce into the batter.
And then lastly, we're adding in some melted coconut oil and I tested this recipe oil-free
and honestly, with the oil, it yielded a much better, more crepe-like consistency of the
final product, so I would recommend you use it.
So just whisk everything together until it is very, very smooth.
You don't want any clumps or else the crepes will be bumpy.
And grab a nonstick pan.
This is important because it'll prevent it from sticking.
Then we're using a fourth of a cup to measure out each crepe to make sure they're all consistent
and what you're going to do is pour the batter in, then immediately grab the pan and whirl
it around to spread out the batter.
This will help you achieve that perfect, thin crepe consistency without having to use any
special tools.
I also forgot to mention we're cooking this on medium to low heat and this will allow
the crepes to cook all the way through without burning since they're so thin.
So when the crepe looks like it is nice and dry on top, you're going to get a spatula
and just gently flip the crepe over.
Be very gentle because these, again, are thin so they can easily rip.
So throughout the cooking process, I flipped the crepe over about two to three times just
to make sure that it is cooked through.
And a good indication that it is done is when you see nice golden brown streaks on the crepe.
I don't know why I'm including this, but I just took some behind-the-scenes shots.
This is what was going on in the kitchen while we were cooking.
Cinnamon.
Am I in the way?
No.
It's fine.
I was just going to show real life.
Hey guys and welcome to a very exciting video because I am finally, finally...
So I've got a special guest, Chris.
Hi guys.
If you've never met me before, I'm Chris.
Oh, you're cut off.
So I want to try to make it like my family used to make it and so I got most of the ingredients.
We used to spread Nutella inside and there is a vegan version of Nutella.
We also use vegan whipped cream and instead of like the aerosol can one, we're going to
be using vegan Coco Whip from So Delicious.
It's basically like Cool Whip.
It's so good.
Damn bae.
It's so...
It tastes like ice cream.
So good.
So I'm just going to put a little bit in here.
You can put it on top as well, but the more whipped cream, the better.
And then I'm going to be putting fruits.
So for fruits, I'm just doing strawberries and bananas.
You can do whatever the heck you want.
You can even put other berries.
We have blueberries and blackberries in the fridge if you want to make this.
You can also make savory crepes.
Yes.
So I think we were talking about this in the beginning, but like tofu scramble, breakfast
crepe, lunch crepe, dinner crepe.
All the crepes.
Every crepe.
It's so hot.
Getting crepe-y.
We usually use chocolate syrup, but I'm just melting chocolate.
Just going to smear it on top like so and then basically just roll it up.
This is how my family does it.
This is how they do.
Some people roll it up tightly and then like put stuff on top.
Oh, powdered sugar.
I forgot.
Let me go get it.
All right.
I was about to eat this like a burrito.
I mean, I guess you can.
Let's get crepe-y.
I don't have whipped cream in mine.
How do you like it, babe?
I love it.
I'm so happy right now.
We're just going to eat the chocolate.
Wait.
Okay, we're just going to eat it.
I have it all over my face.
It's wet.
Straight down your lip.
We hope you guys enjoyed this recipe video.
Very short and sweet, but super crepe-y.
Super crepe-y.
She did like a face mask with it.
It was sweet and simple.
And vegan.
Wow.
He's not a chocolate magician.
At this point, I just don't care.
We hope you guys enjoyed this video.
