Drawing On The Right Of Brain Blind Contour Drawing Exercise (Crunched Paper)
So in this video I'm going to show you a very simple drawing exercise and it's from
the exercises in the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
by Betty Edwards. They're different exercises to show you ways to
unleash your creativity and switch from using the left side of your brain to
using the right side of your brain. So for this exercise you're going to
take a piece of just regular paper and crunch it up
into a little ball. You're going to use a 2B pencil or any
soft pencil is good and you have your crunched up piece of
paper and the idea is you don't even look at
your hand that's drawing. You hold your pencil in a way that's
comfortable for you and this kind of drawing is called
contour drawing and basically your eye is going to follow
all the lines in the crunched up paper but you're not trying to identify
any forms or shapes and so the idea is that your left brain which is the side
of the brain that creates labels and
makes words and very logical signs. You want to shut that side of the brain
off and you want to ignite the right side of
brain which is the more creative side. So this is one of the many exercises in
the book and I will just give a slight
demonstration of how it's done. You have your paper there. You start
anywhere on your page and without looking at
your hand you're just going to follow the lines.
So as you can see the finished product doesn't look like much but
the idea is that it becomes a very meditative process
and it's all about the process rather than the finished product.
So thanks so much for watching the video. Give it a big thumbs up if you like it.
