Time in Ljubljana, Slovenia _ Travel Guide + Vlog
Hello and Dobrdan from Ljubljana which is of course a beautiful Slovenian capital.
I'm not staying here for very long but I thought I'd do a quick video for you guys anyway
because it's not a place that many people tend to visit on their trip to Slovenia
and not that many people tend to visit Slovenia on their European trip in the first place.
What it lacks in size it more than makes up for in natural beauty.
It's a really really gorgeous country but today we're just focusing on the capital.
I'm gonna take you around show you a few places and this is my very first time visiting
so it's going to be all new to me and I'm going to give you all my honest impressions
but I'm already loving it. Spoiler alert.
Before we head out I want to show you what the view is like from my balcony.
I'm staying at the Grand Hotel Union and the view is actually spectacular.
Look at it right there I can see the Ljubljana castle in the distance.
First of all we're going to visit the main square which is currently being set up for
Christmas markets so it looks beautiful but sadly I'm going to miss them
because they literally open three days after I leave.
I know what is my luck but it looks beautiful regardless
and now we're going to continue on to a food market which should be open.
This around me is Ljubljanska Trznica which is an open-air market selling food
and other things like clothes and souvenirs so it's a really exciting place to visit.
It's full of locals and you can buy some really delicious fresh produce
and this is something that Ljubljana is really well known for.
It is one of the greenest cities in Europe in 2016
and actually won the award of Europe's Greek capital.
There are many things that make Ljubljana a green city
but the number one thing that you'll notice on your trip here is the bikes.
They are literally everywhere.
It turns out the market actually has an indoor part as well which I'm not gonna lie is not very pretty
but they have a lot of vegan food a lot of eco-friendly things
so I was really pleasantly surprised because I was kind of just expecting sausages.
So I actually bought this one piece of chocolate with blueberries and coconut
that's completely vegan and I'm really really excited to try it.
Before visiting I did what I always do and I asked you guys for your best tips
on what to do in Ljubljana.
I always ask on Instagram so if you're not following me you can find it below.
It's just girl versus club and without fail every single one of you mentioned the canals.
Apparently the canals and the cafes and bars that line them
are the heart of city life here in Ljubljana and it is definitely true.
I am just seeing so many people sitting here and sipping on a little wine.
It's a Monday and everyone's having a great time
and they all seem to be locals or Italians which brings me to the next point.
Ljubljana is extremely multicultural especially for such a tiny city.
You can really feel the Italian influence but there's also a lot of Austrian influence
and a bit of Hungarian which makes for a really cool environment in terms of culinary delights,
in terms of architecture and in terms of just the culture.
It's a lot more laid-back than what I was expecting from a country in this region.
I don't know if that's wrong of me but it's just very chill which I'm absolutely loving.
So because I don't know anything about the city like I mentioned before
I decided to do what seemed like the simplest thing,
just look at a map and look for things that seemed important.
There was this giant road that led toward the park and I couldn't find a way to cross it
so I just had to run across, wait in the middle while the cars passed
and this was a very very busy road and then run across again frantically.
I decided to visit the Tivoli Park which is a huge huge park near the center of Ljubljana.
So I am here now, it's just a park but in the area you will find things like the opera,
a national museum so definitely a place worth visiting.
Also I think in the summer it's actually going to be quite gorgeous,
it's just that I'm here in November and November is just a bit of a month so yeah.
But it's sunny today which is very lucky.
If you've watched any of my vlogs you'll know that I love finding a good vantage point
and here in Ljubljana it's actually extremely easy
because Ljubljana Castle is one of the most famous sights in the city
and it's also the best vantage point that you can get.
So that's what we're gonna do now, we're gonna hike up there and see what's beneath us.
If you guys are familiar with recent European history
you'll know that Slovenia used to be a part of Yugoslavia
and I found this little museum slash shop that has loads of like old stamps
and drinks and things like that, it's pretty cool.
If anybody could explain those terrifying fish to me
that would be great because otherwise I'm gonna have nightmares for the rest of my life.
So this is from the market just across the river from about 80 kilometers from here.
So would I recommend Ljubljana?
Well the short answer is absolutely, the city is really beautiful
and the fact that it's small actually works in your benefit
because in half an hour you can explore most of the city center which is quite unique
and if you have limited time like I did today that can be a huge benefit.
I am now going to eat that chocolate, the vegan chocolate that I got earlier
and then I'm gonna head back home to Vienna.
This looks really delicious.
If you enjoyed this video please don't forget to give it a thumbs up
and subscribe to my channel for more foolishness like this.
Oh that is good.
I always wish I could share it with you guys.
Probably wouldn't share this one, it's too good.
