SpaceX finally created the most powerful spaceship in the world.
It shook everyone when it stacked both stages of Starship on top of Booster 7.
But this success came with its fair share of troubles that led this incredible mission
to be postponed.
What were the problems in Ship 24?
Will this new vehicle take over the successful mission of DART?
Now that SpaceX Starship fully stacks for the first time in 6 months, we do expect wonders
from SpaceX.
We have no doubts about Musk's skills.
The ingenious mind will soon find a way out to make it the best, but it seems like it
might take a few years.
Join us in this video as we unravel all the problems that Ship 24 encountered and Musk's
attempt to make it a success.
Problems in the Ship 24 Things have just heated up in the SpaceX Starbase
in Texas.
For the first time in history, the chopstick arms have lifted Ship 24 and stacked it on
top of Booster 7.
It has finally come to the stage everyone has been waiting for so long.
This amazing news even led some people to express their opinions.
Eric Rolfe says,
We know that there are a lot of tiles missing.
It depicts that SpaceX has repaired the damage to the heat shield tiles on Ship 24's aft
flaps.
Recently, Zach Golden shared his views by saying it seems like the chopsticks are unable
to get close enough to connect the lifting pins.
With people expressing their emotions, you might be wondering why they are so excited
about this news.
SpaceX has not lifted the ship since last March, which made people think that the Starship's
full stack got postponed.
But after six months, they came up with this incredible news that the most powerful vehicle
is about to get launched.
It is not the first attempt by SpaceX, though.
They have conducted three full-stack demonstrations in the previous years.
But this time, they have planned to take things a step ahead.
They are not focusing on Booster 4 and Ship 20 anymore.
The upper stage of Starship and the prototypes of the super-heavy booster were of the utmost
importance to SpaceX at one point.
They were in all three of the previous tests and were about to get evolved in the first
orbital launch attempt, too.
But by 2022, these two vehicles were sent to a retirement yard.
By the time SpaceX started experimenting with the Booster 7 and Ship 24, after six months
of hard work during the testing period, they were finally ready to face the most challenging
phase of the Starship testing.
That is, to combine the two at Starbase.
Talking about Ship 24, the hard-working craftsmen have made a lot of modifications to make this
a success.
They have installed bumper pads, which help to protect the booster during the landing.
However, this is a bit of a problem.
These pads are a little thick.
It's the same as if you are trying to put on some weight and after some time, your clothes
do not fit you.
So they had to remove the pads to make Ship 24 lift on top of B7.
It does not just end here.
This amazing news has a lot of ongoing problems, but SpaceX has pre-planned everything.
So let us take a look at why Ship 24 is in trouble.
TEST TO ASSESS SHIP 24
There is a high chance that the super-heavy B7 will reach significantly new ground.
It will be even before the actual static fires begin.
B7 will have to complete another round of wet-dress rehearsals.
There is no denying that it stimulates the launch, but it also stops just before the
moment of ignition.
To cater to this situation, SpaceX has attempted full wet-dress rehearsal.
They would fill the booster with more than 3,000 tons of liquid oxygen and liquid methane.
This experiment would be as massive as the test of the orbital launch site.
It's still not sure though if SpaceX will immediately attempt the full wet-dress rehearsal.
If we look at the history of the Ship 24 and Booster 7 testing, the company has always
taken small steps before reaching a milestone.
Thus, attempting a wet rehearsal without any interim tests is just not the style of SpaceX.
It would at least attempt a WDR test without any major issues before hopping onto the wet
rehearsal.
B7 has also planned to test its auto-genius pressurization.
In this, they have planned to replace helium gas with hot oxygen and methane.
This step would be done to pressurize the rocket's propellant tanks.
If this testing goes without a glitch, SpaceX will continue to focus on the static fire
campaign.
It will result in the accumulation of one or two 33-engine static fire tests of the
B7.
It may sound like a huge success, but SpaceX will not stop here.
It has revealed further plans that shook the world.
Until then, we are hoping that everything goes according to plan.
Orbital Launch Attempt If the WDR test and the 33-engine static
fire test get successful, SpaceX will directly move to the orbital launch attempt without
unstacking the rocket.
It has planned to make its first attempt to fly into orbit, which could easily happen
in a month or two.
Moreover, the organization has planned to prepare for a ferocious launch schedule ahead.
To bring this plan into action, Booster 9 is already having its first grit fin installed.
Here, it is important to note these were the Booster 8 grit fins.
It may not sit well for the B8 because it has already been lacking the attention of
SpaceX for a while.
They had also planned to roll the vehicle to the launch site during the upgrade of Booster
7, but there was no notable work done on it, such as cryo-proofing.
This may be related to the refocus on Booster 9 being the vehicle to follow up on Booster
7's flight.
The pre-planning phase has not ended here.
On a side note, NASA has also given a DART mission update.
It has just been announced that the successful test would see some moonlight asteroid paths
changed by 75 seconds.
Sounds interesting, isn't it?

Plans for the DART Mission
NASA's DART mission involves the collision of NASA's impactor spacecraft with the moonlit
asteroid DeMorphis as it used the parent asteroid to orient itself just an hour before the impact.
The footage of this impact soon came out in front of the world.
It clearly shows the strain of rocks which were trailing at the moonlight asteroid.
It displayed that the damage had already been done.
Just after two weeks, NASA announced that the mission was successful.
They also revealed the results, showing that the DeMorphis orbit was altered by 32 minutes.
It had an astounding speed of around 14,000 miles.
As stated by NASA before this result, the moonlit asteroid took 11 hours and 55 minutes
to orbit around the parent asteroids.
When the DART collision happened, this period fell to around 11 hours and 23 minutes.
This 32-minute change exceeded the success criteria of the test by more than 25 times.
But it seems like the NASA asteroid system still attracts astronomers a lot.
When they come to know about the success of the test, they begin to focus on the rocks.
These are not just ordinary rocks, but the ones ejected from the asteroid collision.
The plume of rocks also pushed the asteroids forward because of the emptiness of space.
It helped to change its orbit.
The astronomers have further planned to keep a check on the images sent by the DART's
companion imaging satellite.
It's developed by the Italian Space Agency, which will help them to evaluate the asteroid's
shape and mass.
A few of the other issues that they have evaluated include checking the DeMorphis surface texture.
It is a fact that all asteroids are not made up of hard rock.
There are a few that have a soft sponge-like surface as well.
We can simply say that the current NASA mission proved to be an exemplary distraction from
the agency's repeat actions to start its Space Launch System rocket.
The engineers have also planned to give the rocket another try.
It is after they struggled with the seals that connected the rocket to its launch tower.
It came to their mind when the disaster struck in the form of a hurricane.
It pushed NASA to bring the rocket back to its vehicle assembling building.
They have planned to launch the next Artemis 1 in November.
If this plan gets successful, it will start the Artemis program that NASA has long planned.
This program is all set to make a permanent presence on the moon.
While we are truly impressed by the vision of the DART, Ship 24 plans to carry people
and cargo not just to the moon, but also to Mars and beyond.
Since it will be the most powerful vehicle, who knows, it might be able to protect the
Earth against the asteroid impact threat in the future, a mission originally set by
DART.
Till then, the space industry will keep on hitting us with new inventions and their consequences
one after another.
