WBC 2009 Final Japan VS Korea Highlight
The World Baseball Classic is where it is at on the Diamond this spring.
Japan, the defending champ, facing off with 2008 Olympic gold medalist Korea.
Championship game of the three-week tournament, Dodger Stadium.
Our team of John Miller, Joe Morgan, Steve Phillips.
All the game and our highlights.
And right now we have this all-Asian final featuring two huge rivals.
It's a Red Sox-Yankees-Giants-Dodgers kind of a rivalry,
but instead of just New York and New England,
this rivalry involves two entire nations.
In the left-center field.
Tracked the man who was playing deep to begin with, Uchikawa, the left fielder, and he caught up to it.
Thought it was going to go. They were hoping it was going to go.
Then, oh, man, are you kidding me?
Deep in the center.
Aoki back. That ball.
This team stick around the advantage of it.
Right three. The throw is Jojima. Got him!
Young-kyu Lee is hurting out there at second base.
It is far more dangerous to steal a base going head first,
and that's why for years and years most of the base dealers went in feet first.
If you look, the helmet actually cracked in the front as well as the back.
Nakajima comes through in the clutch.
Kataoka scores in what had been so hard for Japan to do all night long.
Nakajima does for them. He knocks in the big run.
Runs will have to be enough for Team Japan.
Now the possible tying run is in scoring position,
and the possible winning run is also on base.
And that's a base hit to left field, and this ballgame is going to be tied up.
Lee scores. Hits three to three.
We are going extra innings.
Ichiro has had three hits in this championship game.
Uchikawa scores, and right behind the Miwamura, Ichiro will take second.
And the big man comes through in the big game for Team Japan again.
One ball and two strikes.
Japan has won its second World Baseball Classic.
Japan back-to-back. There's only been two. They won them both.
Now the Netherlands, very nice story at the start of the day,
but they're not throwing their manager up at the end of this.
That is the province of Japan.
